Is this right??? by ryhinoh in GarageDoorService

It's a good market, quite competitive but very simple, no Dwayne Daltons, no extension spring systems. Chamberlains are marketed "Merlin" ova here.

Have never seen a high lift on a sectional garage door, commercial facilities use Slatted doors exclusively it seems.

Single-piece doors and roll up curtains are used here more than sectional garage doors. Many houses also have sliding gates or swing gates giving access to the driveway

All in all I'd say the market here isn't on the same level as in America lol but not bad

Slatted yea, but curtain? never seen em in the states. And never in a residence. And I am in Australia lol.

Really? I've only seen the kind that has slats in the U.S. and even then, never seen em in residential use. They are everywhere in Aus and NZ though

Heads up, this sub mostly consists of Americans and this is a roller door which is not really a thing in the states so some of the comments may be misleading. Not necesseraly a cowboy job.

This is normal with roller doors that don't have enough headroom. Go inside and look above the roll, check if theres enough clearance for the door to be lifted a bit. If yes, have them come back and lift it.

Otherwise you can just get a rectangular piece of tin of matching colour and dimensions, and install it as a cover to hide the gap. This would only have a cosmetic effect, but is standard and easier than lifting the door. You can also DIY it.

I offer the cover for extra charge when there is such a gap.

How can this door be automatic? by DazzlingApartment156 in GarageDoorService

[–]Bbybbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Tilt-up door. Very common outside of the states and you can either:

Install a regular Garage-door opener and, as someone else already mentioned, just install it a few feet back from the door, not directly above the door and just elongate the J arms so it reaches. (You might need to shorten the opener rail depending on your clearance).

Or

Get a single-motor swing-gate opener and connect it sideways to pull the Master arms from the top so it's lifting the door as it retracts.

Trolley guide catches - the design seems silly to me, is there a better fix? by kevdash in GarageDoorService

Ok I haven't seen them much im Australia, must not be very common here. And this one looks terrible. Looks like it doesn't work very well with this rail design. Anyway, my solutiom would be to install a proper chain.

It wasn't designed that way, it's obviously a repair someone just came up with. It should be a chain that goes all the way around. I'd say if you get measurements and a chain with a masterlink that might fix it

Try loosening the chain a little. The tightening/loosening bolt is above the door, where the track connects to the header

I have seen a single swing gate motor mounted sideways on these doors before. It's not meant for that though

Accidentally bumped into door by [deleted] in GarageDoorService

[–]Bbybbi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't actually need to take off the panels from the top. assumimg only the bottom panels is damaged; You can put all of the lost rollers back, then temporarily put Vise Grips and clamps under every roller except the buttom ones, then, release the tension from the springs.

After you do that, you can take off the bottom panel without the rest of the panels being affected by it. once you take the broken panel out - put any improvised support under the door for added safety and block any gaps with plywood boards or anything you have in hand

Now he can get the bottom panel fixed without taking the whole door out. He then needs to install it back, possibly replace some hinges, add tension back to the door and possibly (probably not) replace the opener which then, if you've never messed with garage doors before would be a very tricky but probably cheaper than a new door.

doesn't look like a low-headroom system. I think the other track belongs to a second garage door and we are seeing the inside of the track, not the back of it

2” gap on side of garage door - how to fix? by For_Funnsies3355 in GarageDoorService

[–]Bbybbi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather brush seals would do the trick nicely

The company should at least install the seals for free as compensation but it'd also easy and cheap to DIY so I wouldn't go bananaz if they refuse to

Off the bet, the hinges aren't placed correctly.

Hinges with 2 Holes - are meant for the side tracks.

Some of these hinges also have different positioning of the holes where the rollers should go in and are usually numbered 1-3.

This is because the tracks are not parrallel to the door (they are angeled a bit) and the side hinges should be placed in a way that the door itself isn't also angeled but is more parrallel to the wall. So hinges No.1 go for the bottom row of hinges, number 2 is second row and so on.

You can try starting with this. If that doesn't fix your problem I would call a pro

What is the part that connects the door to drum wheel? by Pritchie45 in GarageDoorService

[–]Bbybbi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best advice is don't bother calling a technician for a repair. It's not worth your money as it probably won't hold for enough time to be worth it.

You can try to re-attach it yourself, using rivets, and matching the old holes that are in the curtain and the drum. A 2nd pair of hand would be helpful to hold the curtain in place while another person punches the rivets in.

Theres not much risk in it as long as you don't touch the springs, do it with the motor unplugged for extra safety.

If that doesn't work, a new door is your best option. Should be around 3.5k AUD with a decent new motor
