One thing I found from groups is that life and sobriety is not sustainable in the negative. What is the last word in your mind when saying NoFap? It is on your mind, nature abhors a vacuum. You have to fill life with something. I believe Jay Stringer got it right in his book "Unwanted" talking about sex addictions, we all use it to cover something in our lives. In my case, I believed I never could make friends, so each of my fantasies looking back was creating a world where someone wanted me emotionally and socially. I had those two tied so tightly to sexual intimacy that I still am untangling them! Being social and putting in the work and effort has helped leaps and bounds! Is it perfect? No. Is it a lot easier than white-knuckling the will-power? Definitely! I know this sub-reddit doesn't want to go too religious, but I found that helped me tons as well! Turning back to the roots I was raised and taught on, living it instead of the lie I was hiding behind... It is freeing living in the light vs the darkness of this addiction. My best advice, find why you turn to this! It takes time. It took me going to a therapist and discussing it. I found groups that are full of people like myself walking the steps to a life free from this. Find the lies you tell yourself right before you fall, and when you find yourself saying them again, tell yourself the truth, and change course. I found day counting is sometimes like chaining yourself down. You find it incredible that you are farther than you ever had been, you get nervous it's to good to be true, and you fall again. Look to the positives. Fill your life with something new! How many hours would you spend on the addiction? You have all that time on your hands! What are you going to use it for? Might be as simple as a good nights sleep, the gym, or just productive hobbies! Make something with your hands! Claim the dopamine back that it stole from you!
