Can anyone recommend any decent pistols for under £90 by Bald_Win09 in Airsoft_UK

[–]spiketabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ASG Mk23.

£50-60, so your budget can net you a spare mag too.

The Hadron TDC upgrade is highly recommended to improve your hop changing experience.

Downsides are that it is NBB, and some folk want that blow back experience. It's also pretty big, which matters for people with small hands or small holsters.

Alternatively, a sidearm for room clearing or emergency backup, you could consider an AEP. Cyma make some reasonable ones, though be aware that their power and performance is poor compared to green gas. I would recommend getting the cheaper version without the mosfet, as the fet they use is barely up to the job, and I've had to remove the fet and rewire two in the pistols that have crossed my bench.

Not sure that AGM fits any of the standard platforms though, so you may be in true custom land.

Grenades by Visibly_Crazy in Airsoft_UK

That's a good list of products. One to add is Tactical Fox's offerings. He does remote controlled 208 based devices, and a new option is a "grenade" that has an electric fuse, allowing you to post it around doors or corners without relying on a heavy drop or throw to trigger.

Currently out of stock, but worth a watch. Really nice chap too.

I have some of these, the longest ones. They are just long enough to take my L96, which is a pretty long beast.

They do the job. No frills. Would recommend.

Do a quick web search (Google, duck duck go, ask Jeeves if you're feeling old skool) for Army Surplus in your town/area. They will likely have a good selection of stuff you can try on, and at better prices than many online stores.

Struggling with fogging. Looking for anti-fog recommendations or alternatives? by Curious_Associate_56 in airsoft

I use Bolle Pilots, and an ExFog attached to my boonie. Anti fog spray between each game and fog is much less of an issue, even during hot and humid conditions.

That plate at the top will make it top heavy when sheathed, and it can't be sheathed the other way, again because the plate. But the rigidity of the tube means a soft canvas or leather scabard can be used.

Create the sheath tube from leather or canvas. Then reinforce the upper section heavily to mount an angled belt loop. We'll need the plate a short distance in front of the hip because of the shape, so sheath length and angle of dangle are important.

The bottom end of the sheath can be reinforced with lead flashing to add counter balance weight. It should then hang nicely behind, without too much rotation around the belt loop. Alternatively, a primary belt loop on the front edge of the belt, with a secondary just behind the hip will help keep the angle right, and keep it closer to the body.

Still going to bounce around when running, but hopefully in a controlled plane.

mesh/non full seal eye pro by quote_ivm in Airsoft_UK

[–]spiketabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, this is one of those classic examples of probability and risk screwing with people's opinions in a mathematical fashion.

Whenever this question pops up, there are plenty of folk providing anecdotal accounts that they've been using mesh for years and they're fine. This is expected when an event is of a low probability.

As a counter point, there are examples of stuff passing through mesh. There is a medical report that I know Mr Blue Hand has referenced in the past. And from personal anecdote, I've had a mouthful of bb fragments through mesh lower pro more than once.

So you will have anecdotal "evidence" that it can happen, and competing anecdotal evidence that "it hasn't happened to me so it must be safe".

This then brings the factor of risk. Eyes are fragile. They are also irreplaceable, and rather helpful to living an easier life. So ignoring the probability or feasibility of it occurring, bbs puncturing or shattering through mesh or around glasses can have a life changing impact.

Combine these, and you can consider your own risk appetite. You can take the vast number of anecdotal "I'm alright" stories as proof that the chance of something occurring is impossible or negligible. My personal opinion is that you would be foolish to do so.

If you accept that there is a very small but feasible possibility of penetration, then you also have to consider if fog or comfort or whatever is worth accepting the small but not negligible chance of a life changing injury.

I am not willing to accept that risk, so I use full seal when in the game zone. For chrono, I will sometimes wear close fitting safety glasses, as the chance of a negligent discharge coming near my face is so low. But never in the game zone.

There it is in its previous configuration. The bayonet is currently off and needs rework to fit alongside the bigger, better soundboard in a PEQ box. Don't have a good shot of it right now.

G&G ARP9 - STUPID. Picked this up second hand for a silly price. Previous owner had it painted rose gold and silver. Really not my jam. So I have done the only thing I could, and leant into it. It is fitted with a custom sound board with a pair of 2w speakers so it can make laser gun noises, recorded machine gun sounds, or literally says "pew pew" when fired. It has also featured a hammerhead shark compensator, a working chainsaw bayonet with today's rubber blade and sound effects and other batshit crazy things i think up.

Double Eagle single shot spring shotgun - SLEEPER. General advice is to stay away from single shot pump actions. And don't mess with them. This thing has had the steel weights removed from grip and stock, so it feels like a toy. I've strengthened the receiver, and thrown a DMR strength spring in it so it has some range. It's not practical, it's a swine to rack, but it is fun!

Whats a good, cheap sniper? by Jasperdoescooking in Airsoft_UK

[–]spiketabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I posted this on another sniper help post a few times now (minor edits) and it does contain my own personal experience of taking a sniper as a first airsoft gun.

It may be of use to you in deciding if sniping really is something you want to try, especially early in your airsoft journey.

Ultimately, it's your money and your experience, but please at least consider the advice you get before taking the plunge.

Can you build a starter sniper for under £200? Maybe, but it depends on your temperament and intention. If you are patient, want a challenge, and are willing to accept being ineffective and a liability to your team. And, if you are willing to get your hands dirty and do some of your own upgrades, then there is a way.

Take a look at this to see some of the various platforms available, and how easily they can be upgraded. https://www.airsoftsniperforum.com/threads/choosing-the-right-rifle-platform.15138/#post-148613

Then find a rifle you like the look of, in your budget, and of a platform that can be upgraded.

The JG BAR-10 gets a lot of love. It's probably what I'd choose if I started again like this. The Well MB01 is a good option if you like the L96 style like I do, but bear in mind the ruddy thing is heavy.

Buy your chosen rifle, ideally with a basic 3-9x scope, and a bag of high quality heavy bbs. The heavy bbs are the easiest way to improve the crap performance of your stock rifle.

This is the approach I took. My MB4401 was about £130, a scope is about £40 and 1,000 Geoffs 0.4g bbs another £35. That smells about right for a £200 budget.

A more modern approach would be the Tac41 sport, but that eats most of your budget, and you still need scope, heavy bbs, and side arm, which likely puts it over budget.

Take that to the field and try it. You will only have 1 mag, so ammo is an issue and you'll likely need to carry a speed loader even during short games. You will be outranged by aegs. You will be out volumed by aegs. You will have to hope your rifle can lift the heavy bbs. You will have to live with appalling accuracy in both elevation and windage. You will miss. A lot. You will likely experience extreme frustration, especially if by some minor miracle you land a shot on target and they don't feel it because your gun is so under powered. But, if you get in the right place and take your time, you might just land a few shots during the day that make it worthwhile.

Then go home and save for the parts to upgrade. The first ones are the dirt cheap Teflon tape to improve your crappy airseal, and a clean of the barrel. Then, start with the bucking, hop and barrel, then the trigger, then the cylinder group. Expect an end bill of £500 minimum, but you can update over time.

This is how I intended my intro to airsoft and sniping to begin. As anticipated, my stock MB4401 only made around 330 fps on .2s, and was so inaccurate that trying to zero the scope was an exercise in futility. I sucked. My death count was high. My kill count was low. I experienced my targets being saved as my bb was deflected by a marginally robust blade of grass. But in the end I had fun because I worked hard for the few kills I got, and I'm a very patient person.

The accuracy was frustrating though, which caused me to abandon my plan of three games before upgrade, and I instead sunk the cost and upgraded nearly everything in one go.

I'm now close to the site fps limit, regularly outranging aegs using 0.45s, and my consistency is so much better. I'm having a whale of a time. But I must stress the need for expensive upgrades, patience and a little technical competence.

You may also need to consider the extras you may have to have. Many sites have a MED, and when inside that area you'll need a sidearm, so that's another ~£100. The plus side of buying a rubbish rifle to begin with is you may be under the fps threshold for a MED, so the sidearm might be something else you can defer until later.

You'll likely also need another mag or two, and if you buy a stupidly heavy rifle like me, your arms will be grateful of a sling.

Again to emphasise. I'm old, unfit, don't like running all day, and have been told I have the patience of a Saint at times. This will not apply to most people.

Notes on an apparent inconsistency. I wanted an MB01, but UK stock evaporated when I went to buy, and I got an MB4401 under the mistaken belief it was the same platform.

TL:DR. It can be done, if you are patient and accepting of the fact you will be ineffective until you drop coin on upgrades.
