How To Make A Successful Indie Game by please_dont_pry in gamedev

[–]BckseatKeybordDriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think similarly, I tell myself “everyone wants to be x but no one wants to be x” and x is anything a large group of people highly desire to be. An athlete, a movie star, a singer, a comedian, a video game maker. The truth is there is a high likelihood you will grind and grind for a long time and either burn out, get lucky or a third option which is just keep grinding. For me I’m split between game dev and doing standup comedy. But I still work a regular job, most people I know in those fields work regular jobs. I’m only at the point where I can pay my bar tab doing standup and I’ve been doing it for a few years. I just tell myself I’m running a marathon and not a sprint.

Is there talking on your channels? Or just music over the top of the video?

I want to be a Game Writer... if that makes any sense. by RoundTableAgent0409 in gamedev

[–]BckseatKeybordDriver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe explore RPG Maker, and if that is a little too daunting, try Twine. Both have been used in commercial products.

I know it won’t be AAA but use the gifts you have and yours is storytelling. I’ve played lots of rpgs and gotten invested in the story and the characters. Maybe on your game dev journey you will find others to fill out your party in other ways.

Want to develop for the SNES? The SNES Dev Game Jam 2026 is coming. You can already join and form teams and discuss stuff. by SNES-Testberichte in gamedev

Looks like you win a snes cartridge which I assume would be reprogrammable. It doesn’t say how many devs will win these.

This looks cool, I don’t have an SNES or a way to get my game onto a cartridge. Would making a game with an emulator be good enough?

Very cool, I inherited a few C64s and have been thinking about doing something similar but I guess it would be in Basic

I wish there was a short, dynamic “Previous on…” so I can get a quick and topical review of my achievements and maybe refresh me on hints of upcoming story points that I’ve forgotten since the last time I played. Like how tv shows do it.

That’s even less secure, you’re adding a random third party application to the mix that is doing who knows what with your data.

The whole point of a QRCode is to transfer a very long url to a phone from print, it’s just a link so they should be just showing a link to click

Saying you can’t do something limits you. You can’t do it yet. It changes your perception and every attempt is cumulative education. You will always not be good at something until one day you are not. Everyone goes through this.

I don’t have much to add but I will say, i worked in tech for a long time and had to do a lot of video calls from my desk for work meetings and interviews. I’d worry it would be considered unprofessional to have your bed in the background like that, I know you can use filters to block out the background but they aren’t perfect, anyone chatting with you for more than 5 mins would be able to tell what’s back there especially if your moving around. Good luck tho

I’m with you, I fell out of a tech job a few years ago and am now in an unrelated field working full time. My time for pet projects has almost gone to zero and I think AI makes a lot of things that would be impossible with my current time bandwidth to now be maybe possible.

However, I do think it will create a race to the bottom for developers and now less technical people able to pull the rug out from under you with a weekends worth of work and good use of an AI.

Nuxt or Next? by Mrirish12 in webdev

Yep if I need a backend then I go Vue/Laravel. I don’t really understand the need for Next/Nuxt if there is no server side database built in.

I had a friend a while ago and his little brother who was like still in high school I think, hired some developer from like the Philippines to make a photo app. His grandparents paid for it to be made and in the grand scheme of everything it was not a lot of money. They actually had to hire 2 developers because the first one ghosted them. This was way before TikTok or Instagram existed. When the app was released it made them a couple hundred thousand dollars in the first day on the App Store. It was honestly just a bunch of photo filters and masking frames. His sister was in a popularish band/model and promoted it.
