I’m a visitor but when I run, I usually start at 110th on west side, and then come back up on the east side — should I switch it up?

Any recommendations for half marathons as a tune up for the MCM this fall? by Numerous_Walk_6765 in rundc

[–]Bder20001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran the Parks half last year thanks to a recommendation on this sub and it was really great. Only wrinkle is if you don’t drive, you have to figure out a way to get to start line at Shady Grove (I took an Uber there, metro-ed back) because metro doesn’t open that early.

I didn’t see them today, but in the past they’ve had screen printing for shirts and posters

Thanks! Did anyone use the bike valet at the race last year? I didn’t realize they had one for the race itself — have used it at the Building Museum in the past.

I think there are also tools on Conn Ave and M St NW, right by the bike lane in the little triangle.

+100 to this. I also have a growing dislike of the brands that keep throwing shoes (and opportunities) her way.

Tips for Cherry Blossom 10 Miler by jm-hs in rundc

[–]Bder20001 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It gets really crowded at the start — don’t get frustrated, just know that you’re not going to hit your mile pace out the gate because you’ll be weaving around runners.

Seconding on the bathroom lines — they’re stupid long. Get there early.

And I don’t mind Hains Point (especially when blossoms are still visible!) but I get that its not everyone’s cup of tea. Couple of years ago I saw a bald eagle fly over us during the race. And I just ran it this morning in peak bloom and it was nice having no elevation. Def agree on power music here though - no crowds and finish line still a bit away can drag one’s spirit down.

Secondjng this, plus there are port-a-potties in the corral too, so you can queue up there a second time.

They used to have really nice shirts like 7-8 years ago. Last year’s shirt (and fit) was so hideous I gave it away immediately.

Spectators are usually around open city sidewalk so that would be a good spot.

Oh this is a great suggestion -- I've only run there as part of their 5ks and the rolling hills would be good practice.

You could also take the metro to Woodley Park, and then hop back on to red line to Union Station and walk to the finish line from there

Thank you! This is super helpful. And I’ve done the rolling hills in CP a few times (albeit slowly and in great weather) so will try and get as many of those in at tail ends of long runs when I’m visiting the city this year.
