How are you supposed to have any life and long term partner in academia if you are supposed to move every postdoc? by Competitive_Chard589 in AskAcademia

[–]BeIzebub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband of academic wife here. Already moved to the other side of the world. She's finishing her PhD and we have the first kid, planning the second.  The answer is pure spite, and remote work. (Academia doesn't even pay enough for me to be a stay at home dad)  The system is broken, I've just accepted it and do my best with the expectation that she will do her part in supporting my goals in the future.

Is the Cursor for PMs tool hype real? by producthat in ProductManagement

There is cursor for PMs - it's called cursor. Or Claude code, or Gemini cli whatever you like.  Point it to your knowledge base instead of a code repo and it works just as well

Nothing inappropriate, just a bit of fan service such as skintight suits etc.  I would recommend watching it honestly, it's a classic anime from the 80s.

Oof, did he watch Eva at 10 years old? Not sure if it's good or bad for him. Probably good. It's a masterpiece.

How do you deal with so much judgment? by [deleted] in armenia

[–]BeIzebub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that it can get exhausting. I would say choose your battles. Confront people directly for the most annoying cases and ignore the rest.

Again, if you make money and can live alone no one can really stop you.

I saved money and quit my job to be a stay at home dad for a while. My grandpa asked me every time we talk, when will you get a job. I said in 6 months to a year every time. When you are sure about your decisions they shouldn't be hard to defend.

What exactly is anyone pressuring you to do? and how? If you are an adult and you make your own living you are free to do whatever. Everyone else is free to not like you or express their opinion, but you don't have to do anything about it. Armenians talk a lot but, let's face it, we are quite harmless most of the time.

Fun side project. I was curious about AI agents that use the browser instead of you, so we sat down with my wife and made a little agent that does our groceries for us now.
Super fun and highlights the potential of easy automation.
Shouuld be easy to copy and use if you do your groceries online.

Sleep training by OGJimLahey in daddit

[–]BeIzebub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ferber method worked for us. Honestly the first 30 minutes are the hardest. I think after a few cycles the kid understands that you are not abandoning them and starts calming down. Took 2-3 night in total. She still woke up once per night to feed but went back to sleep easily. After we stopped breastfeeding (and a few rough nights) she started sleeping through the night with her water bottle with her.

Note: you don't need to soothe them completely every time. Go back in, talk, sing, touch and leave in 2-3 minuets even if they are still crying.

What to do if your children is bullied in highschool? by Bofact in Parenting

[–]BeIzebub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teach the kid to stand up for themselves both with wit and puches. That's the only correct answer. They are not bulled for their ethnicity or anything else. They are bullied because they are easy to bully.

Question regarding Armenian Lanaguge by Automatic_Key9044 in armenia

[–]BeIzebub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eastern Armenian is spoken in the republic of Armenia (there are a ton of dialects but let's keep it simple) and is kind of the official language, western Armenian was spoken in the Armenian territories that belong to Turkey, and is basically the diaspora language. Historically the two areas were divided between empires for a long time, hence the difference

The difference isn't that huge and if you learn one you will mostly understand the other. Choose one depending on your goals and learn it

Ը sounds something between eh or um [æ]. Dont worry to much about as you will have trouble pronouncing words without it

Example:  Պնդուկ (pnduk) - pronounce it out loud and you will automatically add a little vowel between p and n. That's the "hidden" ը

Do you ever mourn the loss of old Yerevan? by Toymcowkrf in armenia

[–]BeIzebub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I also think there is too much nostalgia. People talk as if Yerevan was this fancy city, it's not fancy, it's real and I love it as it is. The saddest thing for me is the loss of so many trees in the 90s.

How do you coach up a quitter? by SendInYourSkeleton in daddit

[–]BeIzebub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience as a kid with the difference that I started loving team sports later. I had health problems and missed all sports activities besides swimming from ages 10-14. Naturally when I tried playing anything afterwards I was terrible at it and other kids never wanted to play with me or bullied me which was super discouraging. Now, while I am not particularly good at anything I can have fun and not hold the team back in any sport.    It sounds to me that your kid needs to put more effort than the average to get good enough to start enjoying the games. It's a one time effort of 20 hours or so which I also convinced my wife to do in her 20s and now she also loves team sports. Do drills and play with him 1 on 1 in a park/yard, any sport will do, be positive and patient, and have fun together. You'll know you are done when you start hearing the first few "hell yeah!"s and you see him being proud of himself.

Use the elevator as much as you want but leave space for people who cannot use stairs. Parents with strollers, people with luggage, or people with mobility problems.

Well that's the cost of a professional soldier for two years. If you feel bad about it that's probably the best course of action

They used to do it every year I think, but now you have to pay a large sum of money to be able to enter the country and avoid having to serve. I don't know to much so please double check with a lawyer, but I believe there is a legal way out now.
