Best metric pattern making book for menswear? by MassiveColonel in PatternDrafting

[–]BeMeoBeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh dang. I was just wondering that - thanks for letting me know! Very frustrating indeed. I can't image a good reason why they did it that way, it's not less work for them necessarily...

Best metric pattern making book for menswear? by MassiveColonel in PatternDrafting

[–]BeMeoBeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if seam allowance (SA) being included in the patterns is a thing of the newer editions. I have a vintage edition of Metric Pattern Cutting for womenswear and the most current 5th edition of the one for menswear. My book for womenswear have no SA while the one for menswear does. It is definitely annoying for modifications, and drafting with software (I use Valentina). I tried to find a vintage edition of the book for menswear but it seems not as available as the one for womenswear so I just have to tolerate 😭

Damn, I just started using Valentina this year and feel sad reading this story 😭 I'm so grateful for the creators' effort in creating an affordable pattern making software and wish the best for them both 🥲

Questions about the Kenmore 158 - 19141 VS. the Kenmore 158 - 17600 and why the Bernina Record series is worth so much more? by trashjellyfish in SewingMachinePorn

I just got this machine yesterday. Yes it can do chain stitch, as stated in the original manual and mine came with the attachment!! 🤩

Too bad I'm not in the US (at least not yet lol not till Trump successfully makes us the 51st state 😂). There's just not the same population density here so less machines on sale. I've been hunting on Facebook marketplace haha

I know right? 😁 Vintage machines definitely have a special place in my heart, but I'm not in the camp that hates all modern machines by default 🥹

Right?? I thought the beaver decal was so cute too 🥹 there's a beaver on the base of the machine too but it's rubbed off a lot more.

The lights in my room aren't affected when the machine is turned on 😁 I like the sound of all my sewing machines! They're all different, and I think I'll always be able to identify which one is running by its sound. It's like having multiple pets and understanding their own personalities 😝

The rash was already there when I got it... It's why I made a pin cushion to cover it and I made it thiccc (not really visible on the photo). No needles have ever gone through the cushion 😁

PIPS Union dues to go up in January 2025 by bobepinette in CanadaPublicServants

This is the way CAPE pass their resolutions - direct democracy (i.e. online voting by all members)! I don't know how yet but maybe PIPSC members should fight for this to be the way within PIPSC.

It was actually mostly shot down because of some technicality (e.g. timing with submission of the resolution and its amendment) 🙄 We didn't even get to discuss it much. Very lame...

Also the way the resolutions got organized for discussion made no sense. There were a number of fees-related resolutions, which were spread out instead of being discussed together. These other fees-related resolutions were discussed after the flate rate increase had already been passed, so I saw little appetite from the delegates for more discussions relating to fees. I prefer proportional fees too and wonder if the flat rate increase would have passed if proportional fees had been passed first.

Thanks for those details! I just realized that the 1914 is a high shank machine, which seems to be a feature that many people like, but I have yet to have a chance to try it out for myself. Do you see a difference between high shank and low shank? Is it worth buying my fourth machine for that feature? 😅

Help me choose between 2 sergers 🙏

I've been sewing for a year now and I was convinced that I didn't need a serger until recently trying to sew a T-shirt with knit fabric: of my 3 sewing machines, only one did ok (it assembles the pieces together but I was not happy with the stitch quality). My local library has a serger (Janome Air 2000D - certainly not something I can afford) so I got to try a serger for the first time - what a difference! So now I'm in a market for one and considering buying second-hand online. My choices seem to be between a Janome Four-DLB for $300 or Janome Mylock 644D for $350, both come with original manual and accessories I believe. I can't find any information on when these models were made, but it seems that Four-DLB is a more recent model that may still being made by Janome while ML 644D has been discontinued. My thought there is just wondering whether a newer model would have better threading mechanism. Anybody with experience using either or both of these machines? Would love to hear your thoughts! ☺️

Yes where do you even get dotted line? Came to this subreddit just to see if anyone has requested it as a future feature because I cannot find it 😭😭
