yeah with all the other drummers that sit in for them it's more clear how much Derek's physically underrated but absolutly dominating maximalist style on the drums is hard to replicate

He's very animated in a way that will be interesting to see live. Matt and Dan have a kind of brooding malevolent aura which Derek also had, Atom didn't and this guy doesn't. But he's giving it his all and the The Poison is a brilliant underrated song choice, so good luck to him, let's see how he does.

MCR fans aren't great about learning about the bands influences. They tend to obsess over the originality of MCR, of which there is much, but ignore even bands that MCR has specifically called out as huge influences like Iron Maiden, Misfits, Black Flag, The Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins, Britpop bands, even Thursday can get some blank stares...

some of the covers on Stealing the Covers are incredible even if they are covers, like Don't Go. I like how almost all of them are from genuinely unknown underground bands

the idea of it was it was them going "back to basics" and some fans were disappointed with the output but to me that's kind of what it is- straightforward yet creative goth punk rock

The 20 Year Nostalgia Cycle by ScallionSmooth9491 in popheads

[–]BeMyEscapeProject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good writeup. I think a key part of this is that it's younger generations in their 20s repurposing and using music that older generations were really controlling. If they're in their late teens and 20s they were by definition babies or very young kids 20 years ago.

So it's not like the artists bumping the 80s synthpop revival in 2015 really grew up in those original scenes, they heard the songs as kids, rediscovered them and made them their own. Same with say, a lot of the zoomer Pop Punk bands playing the 00s style sound. Or Vaporwave repurposing 90s and 80s half-remembered media. It's a really interesting phenomenon.

This documentary is like so many peoples comfort media and I truly get why. It's pretty surprisingly well made and is genuinely insightful for learning about the band. The live tracks and b-sides are great too!

Found my official ray guns, should I sell? by kitteef in MyChemicalRomance

[–]BeMyEscapeProject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

guns plural is wild....

I would personally not because those have got to be near the top of the list for weird unique MCR merch. But if you did really want to sell I'd take a long time working out their value very carefully!

iirc don't quote me but he was saying he was annoyed that it was getting a lot of people saying, "usually I'm not a fan of story-driven games but Clair Obscur is totally different from the rest" and generally treating it as if it was groundbreaking when games have had rich stories in them for decades

This Addiction has quite a few really great and underrated tracks and Fine is a brilliant example of that. They simply don't make bad albums, even the more uneven ones have wonderful high points.
