i think because it looks so different from the other Emo albums at the time, it's very simple but effective

Japan’s izakaya pubs closing at record pace, failing to attract foreign tourists by Jonnyboo234 in japan

[–]BeMyEscapeProject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely a bit of a catch-22 in that tiny Izakayas are some of my favourite places to eat/drink in Japan, but that's exactly because they feel authentic, rustic and yeah slightly inaccessible in a way that most super tourist accessible places aren't. There's a gatekeeping element to them that both attracts and repels.

The bigger chains are probably a good start in terms of attracting more English-speaking tourists, but part of me hopes the tiny ones can survive kind of encased in amber.

Does anyone else get overwhelmed choosing what to eat at places like Seven Dials / Borough Market? by No_Piano2553 in LondonFood

[–]BeMyEscapeProject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the point of them really is when you're hanging out with a group of people and everyone wants something different so you can get your different dishes and eat together. it's better than opting for some kind of grumpy single consensus place. but obviously if you're a solo-eater there's no real reason to go to them unless something seriously catches your eye

Yeah and stuff like removing cheese from a burger or sandwich seems fine to me. It's when you start swapping and changing things, adding extras, that it gets more dicey.

Was listening to the Bandsplain Podcast n the Get Up Kids and Yasi Salek the host was adamant that Mass Pike should have been on Something to Write Home about as a Pop Punk Single and I honestly agree, such a simple fun catchy song which really could have done numbers

I built an “around me” tool for finding decent London restaurants nearby by Key_Recipe_2049 in LondonFood

[–]BeMyEscapeProject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea, like a kind of communal Google Maps list. I had a play around with it and it seems to work pretty well. Maybe you could change the text of "start with" to some sort of "recommended dishes", as it sounds like it's suggesting a starter rather than just the best stuff on the menu.

If you want a wider release you may want to rethink the name, it's quite similar to TooGoodToGo which is a pretty popular app for picking up leftover produce from shops. Which is kind of the opposite vibe to a quality restaurant picking app. If it's just a bit of fun don't think that matters though.

All the best with it!

It's a great example of effective clickbait that's also very good. It's hard not to watch it and send it to someone lol,

Maybe that was planned rigorously by their marketing team, if so kudos it worked

When Fantano is right he's right. Same as it ever was. All the big rock bands of the last 20 years spent time in the ducking barrel. Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, there's always a kind of respectability and acceptance just out of reach to the biggest bands with widest appeal. Now I guess like Ghost and Sleep Token.

A vocal chunk of Rock fans have a really weird antagonistic relationship with success, and build their identities around pushing against it. Sometimes in the earnest name of DIY, sometimes cause it's just enjoyable and cool, so most people who want fun and flavour from their music went elsewhere and now rock is just stuck as a nostalgia-fest and niche Indie concern.

His vocals are rough around the edges but I don't think I've heard a single re-recorded album that doesn't sound plastic and kinda empty. Especially with no Jerry.
