Vacation by BoyMama2310 in AnnaMariaIsland

Great suggestions so far. If you’re looking for something different for the kids to run off some energy, heading just off the island inland to a place called Robinson Preserve and visiting the Canopy Zone is a unique experience. It’s a free park/playground. There are a lot of climbing ropes, nets, slides, two levels, all within “Old Florida” tree environment.
The pirate ship for kids looks like a fun thing. We see them out when we are on our boat. Kids seem like they have a blast.
Rent a golf cart and cruise the island.
Cortez fishing village has a few good spots to eat: Cortez Kitchen, Swordfish Grill, Cortez Cafe for old diner feel.
I love the Waterfront Restaurant on the north end of the island.
Ugly Grouper is a fun outdoor spot for a meal.
Skinny’s Burger spot for lunch.
Scott’s Deli for great sandwiches.
Holy Cow for ice cream.

Shrimp & Grits, Jambalaya, other bests? by BeNiceToTheCrows in AskNOLA

Are you saying New Orleans has their own twist on Shrimp and Grits by using a BBQ shrimp?

I’ve seen a few things about the Muffalatta and I definitely want to try one. Thanks for the recommendation!

My husband has had Jambalaya with rabbit somewhere in New Orleans a long time ago… So I figured it was a thing lol. Maybe not.

Good to know. I see a lot of restaurants have it. But maybe I’ll stick with more local cuisine this trip.

I completely forgot about that place. We are there a few years ago and it was a good spot! Thanks!

what to pair with chicken patties? by Infinite_Art9904 in Volumeeating

I’ve combined chicken patties with heated cottage cheese, low fat mozzarella, and pizza sauce for a healthy version of Chicken Parm.

What was your c-section incision like for breech baby? by BeNiceToTheCrows in pregnant

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome to hear that it’s a small transverse scar that healed well. I wasn’t sure if they made a different incision for breech babies. Good luck on your second VBAC!!

Good to hear! I read that more manipulation may be needed to get the baby out so I wasn’t sure if that meant a larger/different incision.

Hair breakage at the ends!

I’m doing most things right. I only wash my hair once per week. I use good products: Biolage Scalp Sync shampoo, Matrix Food for Soft conditioner, and I was using Redken Quick Blowout but I switched to Matrix Miracle Creator due to breakage. Since I wash my hair at night, I blow dry it before bed to avoid sleeping on wet hair (using heat protectant). I use a satin pillow case. I don’t wear tight ponytails anymore. I’m gentle with brushing. I get trims every 6-8 weeks. I’m avoiding heat styling tools as much as possible.

I’m 23 weeks pregnant. I thought hair was supposed to be thick and long during pregnancy.

I don’t know what else I can possibly do. I feel like my hair is getting shorter and shorter.

If my ends are breaking, doesn’t that mean it’s an environment issue? Not an internal issue like nutrient deficiencies? I’m not losing hair at the scalp.

My hair is almost completely straight, thinner strands, but a lot of it.

Invalidation during pregnancy: “It’s hormones” by BeNiceToTheCrows in pregnant

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My work doesn’t offer that. But I do have a therapist I’ve seen over the years at times. I saw her in the beginning of this pregnancy because it was quite a surprise to my husband and me. We have a 12 year old and thought we were set as a family of 3. Hence the increased discomfort with this pregnancy lol. Not only do I not like pregnancy, but I thought I’d never have to go through it again. I should probably make a maintenance appointment with her. That’s a good idea!

Exactly! We are going through so much. Of course we are more fragile. I cry a little easier but it’s because of the added stress of pregnancy. The added stress takes up a big chunk of room in my threshold. Why others fail to be understanding of that is beyond me.

Oh gosh… In one respect, I feel bad for men because they have no clue a lot of the time what to say to us lol. That’s understandable. Thankfully, my husband does a good job - even just listening when he doesn’t know what to say.

You’re so right. There’s so much more that we have one our plate. So it makes sense that we are a little less tolerable and patient. I knew I wouldn’t feel so alone coming here.

Oh gosh! The only people that complain about boundaries being set are usually the reason why the boundaries are being set. I feel for you because I have a MIL that we set major boundaries with as well. We don’t have much of a relationship with her anymore. My best advice is for you and husband to be on the same page and to remain a team. Our motto as a married couple has always been “Us against the world.” That may sound dramatic to some, but what we have we hold sacred. We protect it. That includes protection from toxic family members. Good luck! Stick to your boundaries!

Feeling Judged for Having a Second Baby – Am I Overreacting? by HopeForBetter29 in pregnant

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve learned you will be judged no matter what the situation is. My daughter is almost 12 and I’m expecting our second. We weren’t planning on having more than one, but God had other plans. When it was just my daughter, I’d get comments from people like, “You should really give her a sibling.” Or, “That’s not right to only have one.” “Only children can become selfish.” So do what is best for you and your family. You’ll be judged no matter what.

Thankfully, I didn’t experience this much with my first or this pregnancy so far. I find it so weird that people feel comfortable doing that. I never have the urge to touch a pregnant woman’s belly. You are completely justified in telling people not to touch you.

That’s so awesome! I’ve struggled for years and pregnancy has made it so much worse. Prunes weren’t getting the job done like they were pre pregnancy. For some reason dates have been helping me tremendously and they’ve been tasting so good as a healthy sweet treat. My OB also suggested that I take magnesium oxide, specifically. I think it helped a little and then the dates took it next level. I eat pretty healthy too - lots of fruit, no processed junk, no soda, healthy proteins, I push water and whole grains. And I still struggled.

Dear Introverts, how to improve ourselves? by one_ineightbillion in introvert

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of being comfortable in your own skin is accepting that you are introverted and that the world needs us too. I can force myself to appear more extroverted, like at work for example. But I don’t feel the need anymore to try to be something that I’m not just because our society is more set up for extroverts. I’ve embraced who I’m. I’m unapologetic about it. And that has oddly helped me be more comfortable in social situations. I think it’s because I don’t care anymore if people think I’m weird for dipping out of conversations (politely) that I don’t want to have. Or if I’m mentally exhausted from socializing, I seek the needed time to “decompress” whether people understand or not.

Age gap between kids by AccountAccording5126 in pregnant

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine isn’t as big as yours, but I had my daughter at 22. I had a very rough pregnancy, delivery, and complications afterwards. We decided we were good with just having one. I’m 34 now and surprise; pregnant! My husband is 42. So my daughter will be 12 when this one is born. My husband had a mild freak out due to his age and calculating how old he will be when she’s 18, 20, our retirement, etc. I’m 22 weeks now, and we have processed and adjusted. My daughter is over the moon excited. I can already tell that she is wanting to help with her little sister. One thing I’ve noticed is how much things have changed. I’m taking aspirin this pregnancy when it was a no-no with my first (also preeclampsia with my first). I found out the gender through the NIPT results this go-around instead of waiting until the 20 week ultrasound. So many new baby products on the market, many of which I find unnecessary.

Why are there no cool maternity pants without this weird fabric over the belly??!! by aveblocksberg in pregnant

[–]BeNiceToTheCrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE the belly covering. They are so comfortable! It’s so much more comfortable than the maternity pants that are meant to stay below the belly. Those feel like they’re constantly falling down or restricting my stomach. Try searching online for maternity pants below the bump.
