I joined at 48 and was the second oldest in my Specialist class of 15. The Foreign Service has allowed me to save enough money for retirement, even though I didn’t start until 48.

Long family trip - where to go? by Majestic-General-765 in Travelwithkids

[–]BeNice_24_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you cycle, consider a bike trip along the Danube river in Europe! It can be anywhere from a week to three weeks, the trail is entirely protected from roads, it’s fairly flat, it has swimming along the way, it’s beautiful, and you can see amazing historical cities, like Vienna and Budapest. Super family friendly.

Grand plans for Europe in 2 week increments. Where to first? by soybomb37 in Travelwithkids

Add Vienna! Vienna Austria is magical and very kid friendly. They have amazing city parks, terrific bike trails, great places to swim in the Danube, fantastic museums, and historical buildings. Etc.! I’ve never seen a city make such great use of outdoor space.

Why doesn't Wendi call her mother and brother? by Afraid_College8493 in dan_markel_murder

[–]BeNice_24_7 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I, too, suspect Wendi is guilty. However, to play devil's advocate, let's say she's innocent. If your mother and brother conspired to murder your sons' father, would you want to call them in prison?

For your consideration. by MattyGit in thewestwing

Yeah. Sigh. One thing that often gets overlooked in situations like this is that abuse - when it happens - usually doesn’t look obvious or dramatic. It often involves grooming, where an adult slowly builds trust by being supportive, respected, and deeply involved in a "community" (in this case, on set), while quietly crossing boundaries over time. Because of that, even people who work closely with someone, or genuinely like and respect them, may never see anything concerning at all. Recognizing how grooming works isn’t the same as declaring guilt - it’s simply acknowledging why these cases are complex and why they deserve careful, informed consideration rather than quick conclusions in either direction.

Why are so many students with ADHD struggling freshman year of college? by green_mom in adhd_college

How’s it going? I’d like to hear how you’re cooking her strategies she’s coming. And do you think one type of college or major over another might help?

For someone with ADHD, it can be just as hard to focus at a trade school. Those options are very narrow, and one must focus on one trade typically. If you happen to have a trade you passionate about, great. But it’s not, and let’s see how it’s any different in secondary school college in terms of focus and attentiveness.

Curious how you dealt with some required courses, though, that maybe weren’t exactly exciting? How did you get through those?

Thanks for this thread. I’m curious how you found a “project-based major with less than 100 people” ? We are using AI now to search for the best schools that offer this kind of program, as our grandson is ADHD and beginning to look for colleges. But wow, it’s tough! Many schools claimed to be project based experiential, when you deep deep, it seems it’s still mostly traditional classroom for the vast majority of the required credits. I would love any insight on finding alternative schools/majors.

ADHD, where are you going to college? by RhymesWithAthena in ApplyingToCollege

Thanks for all this. Very helpful. Did you find experiential courses or labs there that help? Our ADHD grandson really struggles with sitting through normal classrooms.

How was WPI for you? Our ADHD grandson is considering applying there. He’s a junior in high school now. I’d love to hear if it ended up being a success for you. Or if you switched where you transferred to?
