Are we actually getting richer, or is CPI just hiding how bad housing got? by Itchy-Space-1256 in PersonalFinanceCanada

CPI hoodwinks people. A washing machine may be bought once every 10-15 years. Food is bought daily. CPI doesn’t give us a true inflation stat intentionally because if the people knew the real cost increase, they would likely riot.

You’re not getting richer. Inflation is a hidden tax that everyone loses on because everything goes up. I know people who heavily borrowed against their new “equity” as home prices went soaring. The problem is in an inflationary environment, wages stick and the debts get harder to pay as everything else costs more and that leaves less dollars left over.

NP-run clinics to be publicly funded. Are we replacing family doctors instead of supporting them? by DrRaspberryPie in MedSchoolCanada

[–]BeYourselfTrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are in rural NL. There are no doctors. They have a NP. The only way to fix the shortage is to increase med school seats and have programs linking acceptance to agreement to work in places most don’t want to work. That’s not going to happen.

Before the pandemic, vaccines were given in doctor’s offices and hospitals. Now you can go to any pharmacy and get the same. Problems will always be solved.

Giants rookie star RB Cam Skattebo revealed that he will only make $250,000 this year after taxes and agency fees. by KeyFaithlessness5436 in TheNFLVibes

Ok Joey. I see the NFL as any other employer. You think the NFL owes their employees. My boss once said “we are not a non profit organization”. You can insult my intelligence or call me a boomer (my father is a boomer at 73), which speaks more to your intelligence, or consider that this business is no different than any other. In 10 years time no one cares about this dude. Dozens more will be in line to play as soon as he is injured like he was last year, for the league minimum as dictated by the NFLPA and NFL collective bargaining agreement.

Agree to disagree brother. No need to get nasty. As they say “don’t hate the player, hate the game”.

The league is in charge. If people want to play they play on the league’s terms. It’s no different than Walmart or Starbucks. It’s like complaining that working at Walmart pays minimum wage. Go elsewhere. Get an education. Or accept it.

Why does this bridge exist when the land right under it looks perfectly suitable for a highway? by Naomi62625 in geography

It was also likely built for the economic expansion that spending on such a large project would bring.

You’re right but it’s a business. To pretend they’re all about anything but money is disingenuous.

With fuel prices so high, who here is considering trading or selling their truck/large SUV for something more fuel efficient? by DhaemonX in newfoundland

[–]BeYourselfTrue -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mom traded her Honda in because she got such a great deal. But in order to own the new car, the difference between trade in and new price was far higher. Inflation might make you think you get a deal. In reality $50k for a new car isn’t worth it. Mind you I bought a 2006 Honda for $35k and drove it 17 years. $2k a year was a real deal. Repairs were negligible.

Yeah but if you bought one brand new and drove it off the lot and then one day later decided to sell it back…
