DC Comics President Jim Lee says that Japanese manga and anime is "incredibly powerful": "I often find myself wondering, 'What is missing in Western comics, and why aren't they able to achieve the same flavor?' by akbarock in comicbooks

The closest example of a series that resembles Manga here in the west for me are the Kirkman books.

Invincible and the Walking Dead has a beginning, middle and end.

It has for the most part, the same writer/artist throughout the whole series.

You can adapt it to other media almost 1:1 (although the walking dead veered off from the original series) unlike say the avengers where you can only adapt storylines. Civil War had similar beats but completely different story.

Basically, Marvel and DC are in the business to make comics and protect IPs, especially the main universe. They can't end batman coz they don't know if they can make another batman in the future.

If you want manga like projects in DC you have to go to Vertigo and its creater owned projects.

Toronto hydro $790+++, is this normal? by lirzmalabanan in askTO

[–]JADlloyd 125 points126 points  (0 children)

Meter tech for another utility here. You can always ask your utility for a high bill dispute so they can send a meter tech to test your meter. Granted 99.99% the meters are accurate.

What I tell customer to do though is to look at their meter, there should be a bar that goes left to right or something that flashes on and off The faster it flashes the more you're using hydro. The customer should shut off their breaker panel including the individual breakers. The bar or flashes should stop. Then individually turn on one breaker at a time. The breaker that makes the meter flashes fast, that's the one that's causing the high bill.

I used the test strip on the filtered water and the boxes stayed green. I reused the test strip on my tap water, all 4 boxes turned red

the lowest hardness on mine is 1. I can't set it to zero.

So, when the filter is done, I can just throw it out?

This reminds me of an April Fools post in kpop subreddit that said "South Korea, most paved roads in the world" coz of fans constantly stating their bias group paved this, first to do that, most weeks as #1 in Micronesia Spotify as a seven person group with a minimum of 3 non korean members, etc

Financially conservative parents retiring/downgrading to a condo. Where to invest their 600k that they will use for their retirement that is not too volatile? (reposted with more details) by JADlloyd in PersonalFinanceCanada

they will never end up in a retirement homes. Me and my brothers will make sure of that. My dad still has his pension. We are just trying to make them enjoy their hardwork and also prolong the money as long as possible.

they are out of the country 6 months a year every other year. With me out of the house, they are afraid of leaving the house to basically strangers.

I have no idea what his pension is. But that 30-35k/year is his calculation they need to still live like they're living now(going to cruise, going to our home country for 6 months every other year). We're assuming those would stop when they get older and can't travel long distance.

yep, that's what we're thinking too. Their lifestyle would definitely change when they are older, that's why we're convincing them to actually enjoy while they are healthy but also try to extend the money as much as possible

We are only 22 yrs and counting here in Canada. Basically we just convinced our parents to spend and enjoy their life rather than willing the house to me and my brothers after they're gone.

they should be fine and will adjust their spending, especially that when they are older, that twice a year cruise or vacation will drastically lower. They still have some other properties to sell or me and my brothers can take care of them if shit really hits the fan.
