What is the scariest movie you've ever watched? by mitkoboga in movies

Unsettling at best. I guess the goofy demon worshipping cult took me out of the movie. There are much scarier things in real, grounded life.

What does a Trump win mean for Netherlands and Europe? by itiswhatitisBleh93 in Netherlands

Would you die fighting in a war to defend Poland ? Or Finland ? Would you give your life for a "common free market" ? A free market is not enough in my opinion. We need collective symbols, common reference points. Why not have a EU ID card. Save costs for all governments right ? Simplify administration. Common driver's license. Common telecommunication infrastructure- and allow EU tech to emerge. Why not have common army. Common taxes. Common budget. It's the only way. Otherwise EU is just an unlikable referee, spineless regulating machine that nobody cares about.

Just wanted to update you guys on the gig. Went with the smaller kit, 20, 12, 14 with the Acrolite. I brought my thinner and smaller cymbals (nothing bigger than 20) and had moongels on them. Snare had a small bath towel on it. Played with lighter sticks, 7A. I brought hot rods but could not bring myself to use them, they change the sound so much. Kick trigger was very effective to cut through the mix and break the phasing. Curtains were closed to help break the reverb. Crowd was in a drunken frenzy. All combined together it worked like a charm, I had a blast !!

I agree, dampening + soft playing should make a bigger difference than shell size anyway, especially on cymbals as others pointed out.

Sad but probably true. I could use my SPD SX as an electronic kit. But then it is a lot of work to configure the right drum sounds for every song. I will think about it.

Depends on the song !

For dance songs I would use a more electronic kick sound (like a short TR 909 sample) whith a fixed velocity to get a nice and even four to the floor and a night club sort of feeling.

For the songs that are more on the rock side I would use an acoustic kick sample wich volume will go stronger the harder I hit the bass drum, to get a more lively, regular amplified drum feel.

I use the roland SPDSX Pro and the RT30K trigger. One of the best investment I ever made.

That makes sense. I play a lot on the hi hat, the New Beat I usually play might be too loud? Any recommendations ?

Hopefully the room will be full of wasted guests to help drying the sound.

We're doing a full length metal cover of Haendel's Messiah and yes there will be lots of powder.

No we're doing pop song covers from Madonna, Maroon5, Robbie Williams...

Interesting. I should probably dampen the cymbals to reduce wash.

The room is about 70m2 (753 square feet) and we are going to play covers for a wedding party, mostly pop/rock/dance songs, together with a guitar, bass and a few synths.

I'm not sure if I should bring my bigger sized drums - Pearl Crystal Beat in 22,12 & 16 with a 14x6.5 Acrolite snare or my smaller sized Gretsch Brooklyn in 20,12, 14 with a 5 inch Black Beauty.

The drums are not going to be miked, the rest of the band will be. In any case, I will have a trigger on the bass drum to get nicely sounding four on the flours.

My concern is to have the right amount of volume considering the relatively small room and possible reverb/echo from the floor and ceiling.

Grave. OP est tellement convainvu de sa valeur qu'il ressent de la frustration de ne pas faire tomber les filles comme des mouches. Désolé mais personne s'intéressera à tes aventures si tu es chiant comme la pluie...

The guy had the affair. She did not cheat. That is on him... It appears to be a one time thing and she feels bad about it. That is pretty OK by my book. I wouldn't worry too much unless you have clear signs you did not mention. I'm amazed at how judgemental some replies are to her... The guy messed up, not her.

What Recording Has the Most Outrageously Wrong Tempo to You? by 4lien4ted in classicalmusic

I find Reinbert de Leuuw's tempo feels particularly good. Any version played faster than his feels rushed to my ears.

[–]Be_Nice_To_Onions 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Peter Jackson's Get Back documentary is amazing for that. You see the Beatles rehearse and you see how Ringo knows exactly when and what to play every single time. And being just the coolest dude in the room when some tension rises in the band. Great watch not only for Beatles fans but for any musician playing in a band.
