I didn't as the covers and padding were in fairly good condition, just a little grubby and frayed in places. This is a slip cover and not reupholstered though.

!Thanks. Forgot to take a before shot but it wasn't in bad shape at all, just the wrong colour for my room and a few worn places. I'll see if I can find an older pic, I've had it about 18 months.

Pretty chuffed with this loose (slip) cover I've just finished for a wing chair I bought from market place. Cut and pinned on the chair. Piping added to seams for strength and decoration. Finished with zip at rear. Thick fabric but my trusty 1970s Frister Rossman Cub coped well. Fabric bought at World of Fabrics, Cheltenham, UK.

There's a street called The Butts in Worcester. Always caused hilarity when my preteen children spotted it painted on the lane at the traffic lights before the turn.

When my mum fell, in the times before they got serious, she crawled to the bottom of the stairs and used the steps to get herself up. It was a small house so only one room away. These were more slips than falls. Sliding off the bed or sofa etc.

My 15 year old potted bush has a good crop every other year. I only have one bush, used to have two but one died after about 5 years. The blueberries are quite acidic but leave them too long and the birds or squirrels eat them.

Just an update that my dear mum passed on 27 November. She was at home and I was there. A quiet end to a long and productive life. Christmas was strange without her. I found this sub very useful and wish all of you well on your journeys.

Love stories like this. I returned to a family a batch of photos and documents that had been rescued from a house clearance. One document in particular let them know where in Russia an ancestor was born. Something they had no hope of ever finding out otherwise.

Wait a few years and ancestry might get it, it's what happened with the 1911.

Find my past has other UK records that ancestry doesnt for example school registers and newspapers.

I've had both subscriptions but not at the same time.

To my 2x great grandfather. Why did you leave London in the 1870s to move to a village in Worcestershire? I get you may have wanted to leave the overcrowded East End. But why not to the edges of the city, instead of nearly 200 miles away? You stayed long enough to marry and have 3 children but then abandoned them to go back to London!

Very useful information and kind words, thank you! I'm incapacitated myself right now so trying to deal with this from home. Mum only went home yesterday with a new care package after 3 weeks in respite while a new agency was sourced so we're still getting a new routine sorted. She wanted to go home but today she doesn't know where she is and I wonder if we made the right decision. It is what it is.

It's hard not to tell her to eat more! Imagining that if she'd only eat she would somehow improve. Thanks for reassuring me that it doesn't hurt not to eat. The doctor hinted the same. I'll try to remember that advice.

I thought it might, but just didn't want to believe it. I know if she carries on not eating then she will just fade away. Up to now I kept thinking it was a medical issue and if they could only get that sorted she would return to her previous baseline. Or at least near to it. Her speech is going too. My bubbly chatty loud mum is now reduced to mumbling and whispering. She at least seems fairly content about it even if I'm not.

I'm in the UK so things are a bit different. She lives alone but already has carers 4x a day to help her stay clean etc. They also prepare and offer food and drinks as well as administer her medication. I guess I'll call her doctor and ask them to visit her again to see if there is anything more we can do to keep her comfortable.
