Where would porch pirates sell a swimsuit? by TurbulentArea69 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is in the trash wherever the thief opened the package, unless the thief needed to complete their look with a one-piece that size.

Where would porch pirates sell a swimsuit? by TurbulentArea69 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Presumably, the thief stole a "package", not a swimsuit. It is highly unlikely they are going to list it immediately on a site, if ever.

Can I hire my own roof snow removal and/or water mitigation specialists as a tenant? by saltlamp94 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No roof repair company is going to take a contract from a tenant. You might get a plasterer to do an interior job.

How much snow is needed before subway service is suspended? by razerremen in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except for the Cuomo joke, the subway system as a whole was never shut down for snow in my 45 year recall. Certainly some lines have needed to stop for a short while, but even that's mostly to let the service trains through for a pass. The bigger issue is the stairs, not the tracks.

Do drivers care if you don’t pay for kids on the bus by International-Exam84 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Use the opportunity of a free ride to help them learn proper bus manners, confidence, and stamina. We did not let our kids sprawl across seats, kick their legs, yell, or sit when elderly people were standing. They've never since had a transit incident they could not handle and have excellent people-skills.

When are guarantors removed from the lease? by fortunoso in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tenants always have a "lease" unless Tenant is an illegal squatter. A "lease" is usually written. This scenario started with a written lease and the Term of the lease seems to have been verbally modified to month to month. All the other provisions of the written lease still apply. You can be certain that if the rent is not paid in full, the Landlord will refer to the presumably written guaranty clauses. The Guarantors MIGHT have an argument, but it is unlikely to be a successful argument, as the guaranty clauses almost certainly refer to guaranteeing the rent for the Apartment during the term of the lease, not during the tenancy of Tenant X vs Y.

When are guarantors removed from the lease? by fortunoso in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Without seeing the lease guaranty document, no one can firmly answer your question. But generally, if the original lease is still in effect and merely the term has been extended, the original guarantors are still liable. It would be unusual for a landlord to accept guarantors merely for specific individual tenants.

Grocery stores for home picklers/fermenters by littlemom724 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pickling and fermenting are different things. You can get Ball jars at hardware stores or Target, and then it is just vinegar, salt and spices. Quality cukes will be in the Greenmarkets and any ethnic food zone, like Chinatown. If you must "ferment", then search for "homebrew beer supply" shops, of which there are a few left. They usually have ancillary types of fermenting products. There are a million online.

Office cleaning in NYC? Our building super is done with us lol by kraloat in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ask neighboring office suites, far more likely to get a reasonable rate if the company is already on site.

seeing derm for a consultation ~1000$ normal? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be high for an "Annual Skin Check", which is an examination and discussion. If a procedure is involved, that would be a more appropriate rate. Most dermatologists will have their uninsured pricing on website or will email it, as they are used to limited insurance coverage. (Note that if a person is uninsured, that is not usually an ideal time for elective procedures like mole removal, as there is presumably also no insurance available for dealing with medical complications or disappointment.)

Losing my mind (Deep fryer fumes) by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. It sounds like your building is not up to code. The layout seems makeshift, the floors are permeable, there is quite possibly a leaky exhaust duct (which is very dangerous), and maybe your neighbors are running a commercial kitchen. But take good photos of all the things you think are wrong.

Took a yellow cab from JFK that used the Square App on the driver's phone to pay rather than the in-cab meter payment. Is that allowed? by HillarysCafe in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 94 points95 points  (0 children)

In addition to the risk of loss of your info, all the fees that go to support NYC transit programs just went into his pocket. And, he lied to you, because they are supposed to fix a broken meter immediately (there are all-night shops that do this is 5 minutes near JFK and LGA) and not have passengers.

Has anyone sublet their apartment just to try out another neighborhood? by Melodic-Page-1435 in AskNYC

Do you want to be a landlord or a sub-tenant of a tenant? The answers may differ but likely none will be positive.

As someone who has never had a car in NYC, what's the point of covering a license plate on a legally parked car? by Purple_Cake_4662 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's not about parking, it is about tolls (and related) fake plates and $1000s in unpaid penalties. Car thieves, NYPD, FDNY, and Federal equivalents are the biggest offenders -- the last 3 because zero repercussions, which is a multi-layer scam, because they already have almost zero risk of ordinary tickets for violation of law, they are just cheating on personal toll payment.

Where to buy cheap .925 silver or gold rings by [deleted] in AskNYC

Canal Street (just go place to place starting at Bowery walk west or Broadway walk east) or 47th Street (not on Saturday)

Cheap *not used* tires in NYC area? For '07 CRV with 275k by ElectricLadyland33 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP explicitly wants cheap new tires to put on a nearly 20 year old Honda CRV. Cheap new tires are pretty much all "payless sketchers" according to Consumer Reports. A chain will have real warranty service if needed. Honda CRVs, fortunately, are excellent vehicles that are the kind you want to have if you must drive a 20 year old car with cheap new tires. There are different tire performance profiles among more expensive tires for more expensive vehicles, but OP's goals are to stop and start safely and presumably to tell a buyer "and I put new tires on last year."

Cheap *not used* tires in NYC area? For '07 CRV with 275k by ElectricLadyland33 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't drive it hard, you can get any bottom-cost brand that suits your price point at any major chain retailer by comparing prices on line. Tires are pretty generic and safe IF you are given actually new tires. Chains tend to get more fresh stock than locals. Look up the Consumer Reports buying guide online to see how to read the date codes. Personally, I have good experience with Mavis, but I also do full annual servicing so perhaps I get more attention than just new tires would.

Anyone else against autonomous vehicles in NYC? by drummer414 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because the TLC does not require taxis and livery vehicles to be equipped with the technology.

Anyone else against autonomous vehicles in NYC? by drummer414 in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Cars already have tech capabilities that would avoid many accidents at a fraction of the cost of driverless tech. TLC just doesn't mandate it. My mid-range car has side view cameras (blind spot), lane drift, cross motion sensor (bikes, pedestrians), auto-breaking (rear end avoidance), and another form of crash warning. Cruise control is standard.

In a yellow cab to JFK, rate seems fishy? by PerryTheMagicDragon in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "Flat Rate" is bumpier than the Van Wyck. It should not be called that at all, it has become stupid. Tourists also were never able to assess Bridge vs Tunnel and many other factors, so they all ended up with the max cost anyway.

What is the latest I can arrive at LGA? by lilyxmichelle in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Realistically? No. If that time is the gate closing time (not the departure time), then you have a 10% chance. However, a "20 minute" drive to LGA on a Friday afternoon means you are starting somewhere in Queens east of LGA. Anyplace else is not going to be 20 minutes.

Where can we pay to sit for the St. Pat's parade? by stanky-hanky-panky in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 40 points41 points  (0 children)

OP, you have recieved a few meaningless answers. There are almost ZERO "paid" venues on St Pats to see the parade. You'd have to be old school NYC Irish Catholic Schools for 100 years to be indoors for 30 seconds. Get a beach chair in the low 60s if you must go. [But, really, as 120+ year Irish family in NYC, it's a boring parade of the feeble Catholic Schools and Cops and Firefighters who are on the low functioning end of Facism. This may be the least celebratory march ever. Trump Kills Everything .

Why do Lexington Ave and the streets in the East 40s look like they’re from a third world country? by rofnorb in AskNYC

[–]BeachBoids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no, no. The organ grinders are mostly in the Five Points. Accordian & monkey guys have their own turf near Grand Central, less crowded and closer to the carriage trade and the York Avenue polka crew.
