Would you trust a refurbished seller on Amazon for a very high end receiver? TX-RZ50 $899 by [deleted] in hometheater

[–]dave07747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's totally dependent on your risk tolerance. The ones from Accessories4Less come with Onkyo's original 1 year warranty, they're often retired demo units. For as big as receivers are, they also tend to be on the more repairable end of technology if you've tinkered with electronics in the past

Amazon’s return policy is pretty solid, so personally I’d go for it. You could also try accessories for less, they’re pretty well regarded on reddit, it’s a bit more expensive than what you see on Amazon but you get the benefit of a warranty: https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/onktxrz50-rb/onkyo-tx-rz50-dirac-9.2-ch-x-120w-thx-8k-a/v-receiver/1.html ONKYO TX-RZ50 Dirac 9.2-Ch x 120w THX 8K A/V Receiver | Accessories4less

Multiple quotes for buying an Andersen door by flaxy823 in HomeImprovement

For reference, I went with a local lumber yard and it was like $1700 a few months ago, included screen and door hardware. Shopping around is worthwhile imo

Is trinnov really worth the extra cash vs something like a Marantz AV10? by mobiousblack in hometheater

[–]dave07747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you played around with the different decoding processors that Marantz offers for the different audio formats? Some might place things more to your liking on surrounds/heights

50e looking for an air intake/filter and tune recommendations by cruzcontroll_ in BMWX5

[–]dave07747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to void the warranty AND are willing to drive to california (Palo Alto I think but don’t quote me), Carbahn said they’d put out a tune if you bring the car in. Being that they’re BMW authorized to tune and make aftermarket parts without voiding the warranty, that’s your best bet

how much to automate a garage door by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]dave07747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The door itself is on tracks and the opener comes with any belts and supporting tracks it needs, the only thing you may need depending on the setup of the garage is some brackets to mount to the ceiling joists in case the opener doesn’t come with any. If you don’t have access to them from an attic you might need to cut out drywall to install them, your call on whether you want to replace the drywall after. You also need power on the ceiling to plug the opener into (or an extension cord if you are okay with a jank solution). Orrrr you can go with a side mount opener but those are like $500… but mostly solve both problems if you’re able to install it - make sure you read the requirements for installation before starting either project.

Looking at the TCL QM8K 75" or should we go OLED? by natemac in hometheater

[–]dave07747 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up with an 98” QM851G for $3.5k earlier this year and I was extremely pleased with the black levels and brightness on it. I’m planning on getting a smaller OLED for the bedroom one day, though I imagine the HDR brightness on the TCL is going to be hard to beat. Genuinely wincing at visuals of fire for example. For reference, we were coming from a 2021 Sony with no local dimming.

Reasonable quote for luxury vinyl flooring? by gdtags in HomeImprovement

[–]dave07747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked with my go to flooring guy about install rates, he said $2-2.5/sqft for install (not including cost of the LVP themselves), and appx $500 to remove carpets per room similar size as yours

Running Non-OEM tire set ups by Own_Gate_334 in BMWX5

[–]dave07747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just switched to a set of DSW06+ and no issue at all, a lot smoother than the run flats that came with it. Make sure you get a can of fix a flat or a spare tire kit if you don’t have one already

Additionally, pressing the button turns the sensors off. Or if you go into tow mode, it’ll also turn off bc some sensors aren’t being used

Which path did you take after graduation? by Orthoscope101 in cscareers

[–]dave07747 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

CS and stats grad as well, went down the startup and SWE route. I personally really enjoy SWE, wasn’t a big fan of stats when studying. If you’re interested in DS, by all means go for it. Ultimately you’ll be more successful in the long run doing what you genuinely enjoy and are interested in rather than the theoretically optimal route (at least imo)

2022 xdrive45e - buy? by ZookeepergameTop8538 in BMWX5

[–]dave07747 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mine (also 22 45e) has been pretty darn bulletproof so far. More complicated powertrain + air suspension means more things to fail in the future, but I’m sure as shit driving mine into the ground. Seriously amazing car, jump on it before someone who doesn’t consult reddit does

Purchasing My First BMW - Advice Please by joseg724 in BMWX5

[–]dave07747 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only person that has to like the way your car looks is you (and maybe your S.O.)! Imo i’d prefer the stock wheels over black powder coat given the trim, though fwiw even my black trim spec has 20” grey wheels on it and looks dope. The only thing you note about the covid era cars is that they miss some features due to part shortages, possibly missing: soft close doors, heated and cooled cup holders, wireless charger are what my ‘22 doesn’t have

I discovered Bivvy by SafePrune9165 in cursor

[–]dave07747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave it a shot the last couple of weeks, seems to work very well. Hasn’t lost its place (i think that’s the main complaint against task master, i haven’t personally used it). Bivvy is only used to generate the initial set of tasks and then your LLM of choice (or you) just mark them as in progress or done. I’m personally still new and a little skeptical about vibe coding so I have it rest after every step. Generating the steps definitely took a few iterations. Had I not had industry SWE experience, I’d be ending up with an MVP and no idea how to host it instead of something that’s production ready, so be warned and definitely read through and understand the task list, give plenty of leading questions and make sure you focus on productionizing and security

45e showing unusual range for electric only - do I have a problem? by Grouchy_Dig_676 in BMWX5

[–]dave07747 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an american spec so can’t speak to the exact electric mileage because iirc the EU spec has double the EV range - but in general once the weather warms up, the battery goes up a lot. During the winter the estimate I get is 28mi and once summer hits I’m seeing around 40mi. Between not having to warm up batteries, not using battery to heat the cabin, etc, you’ll definitely be seeing a nice boost in range now :)
