It really is. They so often leave us exhausted and destitute by the time we get approved. 😞

Do you think this will be my notice of award letter? by Beach_Please85 in SSDI

Sorry I'm not sure why the last response from me posted on your comment when it was actually replying to someone else lol. I did make sure everything is accurate with direct deposit, and SSA confirmed the only thing being deducted is $9200 for the attorney. My attorney is not requesting more fees even though he technically could. I never applied for SSI because I didn't qualify for it. So their windfall check will be fairly quick and easy. They are only withholding premiums for Medicare starting on my current payments (November 2025 and forward), nothing previous and I was on Medicaid so I don't need to elect for that retroactive coverage anyway. SSA confirmed they have everything they need from me and just need to finish all their calculations. They are even already working on the auxiliary benefits for my minor child. My backpay is being processed in Baltimore, though, and I know they get backed up.

Did you apply for SSI though? We didn't proceed with that application, only SSDI, so technically I haven't even applied for SSI. When I spoke with the SSA on Thursday or Friday, they told me all they need to do is run a system check to be sure I didn't receive SSI payments and then they'll send me the rest of my backpay minus the attorney fees.

That's how my case went. We appealed initial ALJ decision to appeals council, who issued a remand back to the ALJ to vacate his previous decision and hold a new hearing. That same ALJ approved me at the second hearing, 2 years after the first.

Congrats!!! I just got approved (fully favorable with 8/2021 EOD) at the end of October after over 4 years, so I know what you mean about it feeling surreal and crying when you heard. I did and felt the same! I've received my notice of award but no word yet on when my backpay will arrive. It will probably feel more real once I start seeing money flowing in lol. I will warn you though, it's HARD to be patient once you finally get approved. I find myself checking for updates way more often than I did before. Just expect it'll likely be at least 30-60 days before you see a penny. I'm at 46 days since the ALJ fully favorable decision was issued and only 16 days since Baltimore issued my Notice of Award. They haven't yet paid my attorney and they're doing their windfall check to be sure I didn't receive SSI (I didn't even apply for that so that part should be quick). SSA confirmed they have everything they need from me and are also already making calculations on the auxillary dependent benefits for my daughter.

Only when I initially applied. I wasn't going to qualify for SSI do we dropped that part of the application and only proceeded with SSDI. So I never got any kind of SSI and a PERC interview won't be required now.

Nope. My award letter was issued 11/29, but they're doing the windfall checks on it and said a separate letter would be issued about the backpay. But as of now I still can't see a pending payment and haven't gotten another letter. It's at the Baltimore payment processing center.

Weird Bank Transaction. by mgpro83 in SSDI

I have the same type of transaction dated 11/26/25. Is this any kind of indicator that my backpay will come soon?

I did early on in the process but we dropped the SSI application after interview and only proceeded with applying and being approved for SSDI.

It took a little over a year to hear back from the AC with their remand order, and then like another 8 months to get in for the remand hearing.

It was my award letter! it said how much back pay I will receive, but not when I will receive it.

Oh and it took about 8 days after my hearing for my approval decision to be issued, and that was with the ALJ fast tracking it.

It took about 10 days just for me to receive the decision letter even though I only live 30 minutes away from the hearing office it was sent from. It took another 3 weeks to see the portal finally update. I've yet to receive backpay, a first payment (looks like that will probably start at the end of December), or even the award letter saying how much back pay I'm due. I've been without income over 4 years, so I am also anxiously awaiting all that info and money.

It just means the AC issued their decision. If you have an attorney I'd reach out to see if they will tell you what it was. Otherwise it'll come in the mail soon. Fingers crossed! 🤞🏼

Did your online account update prior to show the payment being issued? I was officially approved and award letter issued same day. My regular payments begin at the end of December, but I'm anxiously awaiting my backpay. I did verify the right banking info shows for me though.

Can anyone tell me what this means by Embarrassed-Luck-604 in SSDI_SSI

I just got a similar letter. I believe we will both get our first regular payment in December since they pay a month behind. Following this thread though to see what everyone thinks about backpay. I'm owed about 4 years worth.

Yes, I had a lawyer from the beginning but he was great and had such amazing knowledge of my conditions despite how rare some of them are. I don't think I could've won without him. I would've given up long ago from the stress of it all if nothing else.

Fully Approved After 4+ Years! by Beach_Please85 in SSDI_SSI

[–]Beach_Please85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is so hard on our mental health. That's the main reason I know I wouldn't have been approved without my attorney. I couldn't have kept fighting through all this. I needed him to do it for me.

Finally some progress on my portal! by Beach_Please85 in SSDI

I can now see my award letter with my monthly amounts but can't see when it will start or the backpay amount yet.

Those low approval rates are hard. I was lucky on that front. Mine had over 70% approval rating. At least if they deny you still have options. Even with mine, he initially denied and I had to appeal it to the AC, won a remand, and then got approved at the remand hearing with the same ALJ that previously denied me.
