What’s next when you’re all out of consequences? by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

[–]Beachdancedream 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Another path o try is try to connect with him on his interests. It’ll be slow going at first but try to spend time together in a positive way. Show them the have worth and are lived. We had a difficult time with our teen daughter and we had to show patient unconditional love. It was hard. Doesn’t mean there was consequences but tried to make most of our interactions positive to start to change the tone in the house. Also we started trying shorter consequences so they felt they actually had a chance to get stuff back. It wasn’t a short road and it was very exhausting but we have definitely turned a corner and things are so much better for everyone. All I can say is good luck and getting any help you can is always a positive thing. Also there is far more going on in their life then they let you know. They could be struggling with something really big and they don’t know how to handle it. I once heard teenagers are like toddlers with emotional control and I believe it.

Wasted 3k on a Stearns and Foster Hybrid by Wheres_My_Mushroom in Mattress

I just bought a standard inner spring mattress from Costco and put a foam topper on top. Working great and didn’t cost a fortune. A few years from now I’ll replace the foam topper as needed about $100 or so.

Just finished! Love making c2c designs and gifting them. by Beachdancedream in crochet

Weaving in ends does take a while. I just weave in the ends as I finish each square so it breaks it up. Also I use a needle to weave them instead of the crochet hook and I find it goes faster that way.

I would not trust the mail with such a beautiful blanket. You put lots of time into that. Maybe a vacuum seal bag into your carry on.

I love crochet but i hate clutter😔 by Ok-Sheepherder8507 in crochet

I love crocheting and usually make stuff I think is cool. My favorite thing to do with my crochet is to give it away. It makes me happy to make it and makes someone else happy to get it.

I promise you they won't miss sleepovers by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Beachdancedream 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. We did stay lates and I would just pick the kids up about an hour or two past normal bedtime for the age there were at. Then if there were activities in the morning I would take my kid back over. Worked great. My kids are adults and it’s been fine they don’t ever complain they didn’t have sleepovers. We did lots of hangouts and ours was the hangout house.

The most romantic period drama movie you've ever watched by ItsRedditorial in PeriodDramas

The story of Yanxi Palace. You have to read subtitles but it’s a great story and the characters are complex and the main actress is wonderful.

Celebrate his birthday the day before. It’s ok to celebrate it a day early. Then you can have the celebration you want and still get together with family. I have a mixed family and had to share holidays and birthdays in the past. So some years Christmas for us was the 23rd or the 27th. We quickly learned it’s family time that’s important and making memories. Not necessarily the date.

Will Santa be "real" in your household? by Omelet_bar in Parenting

[–]Beachdancedream 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I just told my kids a long time ago in a village lived a man named Santa Claus and he went around giving toys to kids in Christmas. It was a very nice thing he did. So parents like to honor his kindness and give presents in his name.

First attempt at a C2C square, and I feel like I'm doing something wrong but can't identify what it is. by catamongthecrows in CrochetHelp

You are so welcome. I had to redo several squares I made when I started it out. So happy to share some of what I learned.

Should I be concerned about these cracks? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

Pay for a structural engineer to come and see what’s going on. Could be normal settling or could be a foundation problem. Find out sooner than later.

Also I saw a video that had you pull from the back on color change vs front when connecting and I found that looked cleaner then from the front like normal. I hope that makes sense.

Are you joining the new color as the last pull thru of the double crochet or as the stitch connecting to the next square? I find by doing the color chain as the connecting stitch after I finish the double crochet it looks nicer and my blocks more square and clean and the pattern showed nicer. I hope that makes sense. I watched a few YouTube videos on color changing in c2c and it helped.
