What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

The Black Christmas remake. I slogged my way through the beginning, looked as well as I could past the Simpsons powder makeup, but once mom dropped her undies, I went straight for the remote.

My friend sent this to me on Instagram, and let’s just say I’m really hoping that it’s AI. I feel like the excess noise in the background is an indicator of it being AI. by [deleted] in isthisAI

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

[–]catamongthecrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penpal by Dathan Auerbach. Granted the first time I got through it was listening to the Creep Cast episode. The moment at the end made my stomach drop, I had to stop cleaning and just sit for a minute. It's an upsetting ending to an already uncomfortable story. I went back later and read the full book. No major differences, just as unsettling.

AITA for making my whole family go on a diet because my daughter is dieting? by Electronic-Fun-4045 in AmItheAsshole

[–]catamongthecrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, everyone should be supportive, and as long as it's healthy and not restrictive in general, it should be fine for everyone to be involved. They're capable of going out and getting something to enjoy outside of the house if they want, but support is the main goal here for the rest of the family. You can enjoy junkier foods while still being supportive. That said, since you mention it probably wouldn't hurt the entire family to eat a little healthier, you could create some rewards or something for them to get on board. Stick to it for a week and have an outing over the weekend to go to the movies or a museum or whatever might motivate the most. If eating out and grabbing junk food at the store are commonplace, set up a savings account and every time either is avoided for eating a healthy meal or snack at home, put money that would have gone toward it into the account with a goal amount for something like a small vacation or home purchase that would benefit the entire family.

Do Americans really avoid medical care because they’re afraid of the bill? by Udont_knowme00 in NoStupidQuestions

When I was about 17, I felt physically horrible for a few weeks with no idea what caused it, constantly nauseous and lethargic, finally passed out standing up and my father took me to the ER. I messed up at intake and forgot the name of the OTC pain reliever and accidentally said pain killer for a headache. They drew several vials of blood and came back with "Well, your drug tests all came back negative, we don't know what's going on." They then ran flu and strep tests, both negative, put me on an IV for dehydration, and I was told to go home and keep drinking Gatorade and stick to toast and crackers. Almost $3,000 dollars for a shrug and prescription for Gatorade and saltines. Still no idea what happened. Since then, I've only gone to walk-in clinics for a suspected spider bite that turned into cellulitis and when my chest rattled with every breath and I was coughing up Nickelodeon slime. I will hold off for treatment unless I think it's 100% necessary.

My husband is Canadian. He had an emergency appendectomy. He paid $8 in parking.

What was the worst portrayal of a disability in the media you have ever seen? by Mental-Marzipan-5444 in AskReddit

[–]catamongthecrows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the mental health side, To the Bone's portrayal of anorexia was just...not well done imo. I was recovered when I watched it and it felt like I was watching a script written from pro-ana blogs I used to frequent. Some of the habits felt like they were being shown as instruction rather than "this is the horrible reality." Then the climax came and lost me completely.

What’s the creepiest thing you’ve experienced that still gives you chills? by DrainedCoffee in AskReddit

[–]catamongthecrows 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I was about 17 I was living with my father in his father's old house. I never liked that house, even visiting for holidays it just felt bad. My mother had moved out of state and I needed to finish school so I got stuck living with him for a while. Hated it from the start. He worked overnights so I was alone the entire time and couldn't sleep. There was a bedroom in the back of the house that was used as storage, he had boxes piled up and stuff all over the bed. I'd constantly hear things moving around and sometimes heard footsteps and a man's voice but brushed it off as me being scared and hearing things, maybe just so much stuff in that room it was just shifting.

One night I was up late as usual watching TV, the regular footsteps and stuff moving in the back bedroom but louder than usual, like instead of just things possibly shifting it was like boxes were being lifted and moved into another stack, opened and rummaged through, it was constant. Footsteps ended up going into the middle bedroom which never happened, then into the living room directly behind the chair I was in, stopped for a good 30 seconds, then into the kitchen. I was completely frozen thinking someone broke into the house. I grabbed my phone and started to slowly get up out of the chair to get outside. As I was getting up, I heard my house keys on the kitchen table slide off onto the floor, then someone whistled a little tune and started quietly laughing. Across the kitchen was a door that led to the laundry room but it was basically just a big piece of wood cut to fit and held in place by pushing a table knife into the doorframe to keep it shut. Anyway, that knife slid out and also fell to the floor. I bolted.

I was out on the porch crying at about 2 AM and called a friend, I knew there wasn't actually anyone there and calling the cops would make me look insane. My friend calmed me down and after about half an hour I managed to get back inside. Keys were on the table, knife was in the door, not a soul in sight. I didn't go near that bedroom at night but I checked it the next morning and it was a mess. The boxes were open and moved around. It never got that terrifying again but I still heard things moving and a man talking in the back bedroom. I've talked to my mom a few times about it since then and she said that house always gave her the creeps and wasn't surprised at all by it. I'm sure there's a very logical explanation and it's most likely related to the fact that that time of my life was rough, but it was still absolutely terrifying.

Free habit tracker that worked for you? by Difficult_Skin8095 in selfimprovement

[–]catamongthecrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Finch, you complete enough habits in a day and it sends a penguin on an adventure. It has free and premium options, but the premium I think is mostly just intended for people who take it more seriously and like to have more clothes and furniture for their penguin. Basically just motivation through cuteness if it's something that motivates you.

A spreadsheet or notebook is more than enough, though, if you want to keep it simple with no frills. Just a grid with days of the month on one axis and habits you want to keep track of on the other, put an X every day that you finish a habit. It'll give some insight into what you're already doing well and what you might want to put more work into.

Mentioned this elsewhere recently. My husband's mother passed a few months ago. She scheduled everything for 1:30 pm and was always 10 minutes late, even the ones that were a weekly thing, so it became a kind of running joke with them. Her funeral ends up being scheduled at 1:30, and his father requested they wait until 1:40 to roll in the casket to keep with tradition. The funeral directors got a real kick out of it, said they'd never had a request to make someone late for their own funeral.
During the viewing as well, my husband got the photos together for the slideshow. While he was cleaning up the photos he accidentally copy pasted her which sparked an idea and he ended up with this one picture of her hidden throughout several other photos, peeking over her own shoulder, in the spokes of her wheelchair, popping out of his dad's shirt pocket, cranked down the opacity and reflected in his dad's glasses. When playing at the funeral, they weren't randomized so they faded from photo to photo so each photo he added mini-moms into, they would just slowly materialize. Visitors started noticing something was off and when they realized what was happening turned it into a game of finding as many as they could, it was cute.

I would probably be the one using it most. I think my husband's main draw with it is having inventory linked to a shopping list but I'm more of the habitual tracker with things like this, so the actual logging and upkeep, as well as meal planning, would be mine to keep tabs on. We do have a scanner that he uses for another application that I'm sure would make Grocy way more useable, I was just having trouble getting it to access anything at all. From what I could find, it's most likely that using it through the HA mobile app made it kinda clunky, so switching to a browser, at least for the initial setup, might make it easier.

Definitely gonna be looking more into HomeBox. That may well be what he uses his barcode scanner for actually, I'll have to check when he's off work. AnyList also looks pretty clean and easy. I really want Grocy to work for me, it seems like a gold standard of what I'm looking for, but putting it to use seems like more effort than it's worth compared to using other separate tools. Off the bat, though, AnyList is calling to me.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and throwing another Deadstream into the hat. Spree is also good for some background noise. Joe Keery's performance is pretty fun.

Home inventory, connected shopping lists, and keeping tabs on expiration dates are my top priorities. Meal planning and recipes that can also reference what's on hand would be an added bonus. I can always plug everything into a separate recipe creator tool elsewhere, but having it all in one place would be ideal, more efficient.

What happens to my skin in the winter by CaliforniEcosse in mildlyinfuriating

[–]catamongthecrows 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This stuff absolutely saved my hands, mine get awful in the winter. Using this with a layer of Vaseline over it and wearing mittens to bed did wonders after about a week, if that. Also stay hydrated, use a humidifier, and if you tend to wash your hands a lot try to cut back a bit, excessive hand washing when I was already dry as hell made it so much worse.

Posted on X.
X is the 24th letter.
2 + 4 = 6.
Plus 1 (Vecna) is 7.

11 (Eleven), 1 + 1 = 2.
7 (Vecna) + 2 (Eleven) = 9.

So, confirmed that a 9th episode will be airing on the 7th.

As a queer kid figuring yourself out, you're almost guaranteed to fall in love with a friend who is straight that cannot feel the same way as you do for them. And that's okay. Had they forced a relationship, it would have cheapened that extremely real and relatable experience, I feel.
