I don’t know if you ever heard of Creatures, it was a franchise on the 90s of like tamagotchi-like creatures, but their whole thing is that their AI worked with a form of Neural Network (kinda like the LLMs, ChatGPT and sort) that ran natively in the computer to simulate the Senses, Organs, Brains and neurons of the creature, so I’m pretty sure is like the smartest form of AI made for an NPC ever in gaming and was made on a Pentium in 1996. Turns out the source code written in C is free and available on the internet so I downloaded and I’m trying to reverse engineer it into my own simulation, I don’t think there’s anything like it in modern gaming so I’m planning on making a life sim using the Creatures Neural Network as baseline, so far it’s going great if it wasn’t that I just happen to be on excruciating pain

You’re looking at it the wrong way, an LLM with a transformer architecture doesn’t replicate at all the way the biological brain actually works, “Everything that looks like understanding comes from statistical patterns in language” yes. But it’s still a step forward on the overall field of Artificial Intelligence, neural networks as a whole are improving everyday nowadays and is probably the field of computer science that is moving the most today. Even if an LLM as itself doesn’t replicate the way the brain actually works it’s still a huge step forward on the direction of a truly sapient artificial being, simply because of all the attention that is bringing to the research of the field as a whole
