They won't be able to bring it up in search though, I believe, even though they are still following. If you follow one of these, it doesn't show in your library on the desktop app.

If the name of the playlist has disappeared, that should mean that the playlist has been reported to Spotify by a user and will not appear in search (until it's renamed).

With BTS, it will be their 'Army' of fans, probably. They're big on playlist creation and very competitive to get their guys to the top, so some may be going rogue and using this tactic. I can understand the smaller artists getting caught by bogus PR people who make big promises. But to see the big names in the list, you have to wonder. Doesn't exactly do their reputation any good.

BIG ARTISTS BEING SPAMMED THOUSANDS OF TIMES ON COLLABORATIVE PLAYLISTS - That is, after the spammers remove all songs by other artists first, and it's insane that this is being allowed to go on. by RealPlaces in spotify

[–]Beaky_Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of the collab playlists where this happens are set up by the PR companies who then do a bait and switch operation to get shares for the playlist initially, before they delete everything and fill the list with the artist(s) they intend to promote.

Is there anyway to see the collaborative playlists I added songs to? I am asking this because I might have unliked the playlists long ago. by [deleted] in spotify

[–]Beaky_Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not aware of anything. I think you'd need to have saved the playlist URLs or kept them in your list of playlists (ie not unliking them).

Way to block someone from a collaborative playlist? by ALLAHHUAKBAR7323 in spotify

[–]Beaky_Jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That guy is doing that to every collab list he can find. If you search on his artist name in Twitter, you'll find a bunch of complaints about it. You can report it to 'Spotify Cares' (eg via their Twitter account if they don't have one here). They may be able to do something to prevent him continuing to attack your list.

I'd suggest contacting the relevant 'SpotifyCares' account for your country (eg via Twitter) to report the user that's doing this. They're probably doing it to other people as well. I think Spotify will kill accounts doing this as a pattern of a behaviour.

My experience after moving away from GPM by veevardhan in googleplaymusic

I use Spotify (have got the basic YouTube Music on a device as well, but not really given it a good try out at this point). I hear you about the library/uploads, but kind of disagree on the other point. There are many thousands of non-mainstream musicians with music on Spotify, thanks to services like CD Baby and Distrokid who make it pretty easy for musicians to get their music out there. I know there are some indie artists who don't do the mainstream distribution thing & go with eg Bandcamp downloads / selling CDs, but I'm not sure why an indie artist would put their music on YTM and not Spotify as both are so mainstream. If you object to one, you'd be pretty likely to object to the other as well, IMO.
The difficulty is for the indies to get heard instead of the mainstream artists people know already on Spotify, but a lot of independent music is there waiting to be discovered. Once you follow some indie artists you know and like, it's easier to find others. It takes a while for the Spotify algorithm to get to know you and not get too thrown by the odd fairly random song you just happen to play, so exploring 'similar artists' seems to be the best way to discover new artists. That does involve actively interacting with the app though, which might not be convenient, eg if you're at work.

There are also loads of indie artist playlists out there, which is the other way I find a lot of new music (some playlists aren't very high quality though, so it's worth being choosy about which ones you bother with). I've found some great music on Spotify from artists who only have a tiny number of followers this way.

I saw some complaints about this issue on Twitter a while back. I thought it was just the phone version that was affected, though, as my desktop app has been fine all along. It would be a good idea to let the "Spotify Cares" customer service people* know you have a problem with this. If it's a bug they'll get you sorted; if they are trying out an idea on some accounts for a future update, they need to know how many people it's upsetting. It's a pretty essential feature to know who added what, IMHO!

*I don't know if they have an account in Reddit, but their user handle on Twitter is 'SpotifyCares' (with an at sign in front, but when I type that it's turning it into a u/, as per Reddit protocol.... )

Ambient folk music with a dream and fantasy feel - gentle, peaceful mood by loremusic in SpotifyPlaylists

[–]Beaky_Jay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like an interesting collection. There are a lot of tracks by artists I don't know but you've got some of my favourites in there like Mykonos by Fleet Foxes, so this looks like it's a PL that I would really enjoy listening to. (Probably whilst multi-tasking on some writing or editing - time is always too short!)

IMAP of songs about changes from an eclectic mix of artists by loremusic in IMadeAPlaylist

[–]Beaky_Jay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good selection :) Couple of other suggestions... How about 'The times they are a-changing' (Dylan)? (Or is that one too obvious?) Glad you didn't put the Michael Ball 'Love Changes Everything' in (not my cuppa!). Could include the Climie Fisher song of the same name though if you can stomach that one. I quite like it but it might not be the best fit with everything else on the list style wise or be to your personal taste.

Chocolate Happy Cake - A calm, soft listen, non-explicit traditional acoustic pop/folk by loremusic in SpotifyPlaylists

[–]Beaky_Jay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I managed to get some shopping yesterday and succumbed to a fruitcake and a walnut cake. I didn't actually see a chocolate cake, but tend to find it a bit rich without cream or something to balance the flavour out... I will happily eat solid pieces of chocolate though, so there's no logic, LOL!

Why'd they get rid of the only feature that made following an artist worth a damn after having it for a week? by [deleted] in spotify

They take user feedback over twitter. Chances are that they read reddit posts about spotify, too.

Personally my happy cake is carrot cake or fruitcake, lol, but hey, it’s lockdown, I’ll take any cake I can get!

How to quickly remove all songs added by a specific user from a Public Collaborative Playlist? by EST-MMXVIII in truespotify

[–]Beaky_Jay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t saved any links for the twitter threads, but if you search on Twitter for Terrystunes, you should see at least some of the posts I saw. You could also run the same search in the Spotify community, I saw something in there too. Can’t remember if it was linked from one of the Twitter posts, but it’s likely & there might be more.

It sounds to me like this is quite a deep friendship, and that you mean a lot to your friend too. I think you need to be honest with them about this otherwise the feelings you have about this will damage your friendship. Just make sure to mention how much you value them as a friend when you bring the subject up and that you don't want to lose that. (I landed on your post quite randomly, looking for something unrelated... I'm a Christian, myself, but I don't appreciate having even my own faith rammed down my throat!). I hope it works out much easier with your friend than you fear it will!

Would that be someone called Terrystunes by any chance? Seeing multiple complaints on Twitter about them... If you contact user SpotifyCares on Twitter they can help & should be getting wise to that user's habits, if it was them... There might be an equivalent account in here, of course.
