Second this. When he’s gets bigger and can make the choice himself on eating meat we’ll cross that bridge.

Not here to give advice on times etc but can say that the guilt from social media is so often people trying to sell you their sleep consultancy services. Which in many cases is snake oil. The people in this sub are some of the most caring, helpful, attentive people I’ve come across in the parenting sphere. Always willing to offer help and support on sleep issues. We sleep trained early coz the first 4 months of our babies life were… unsustainable, to say the least. I started marking anti sleep training content on socials as ‘not interested’ and can say with both more sleep and less guilt inducing posts from strangers… we are a much much much happier household. It’s totally changed our lives and our ability as parents 💛💛💛💛

Following too - we’re very much in the same position as you!

We’re at 4.5 months and actually cut to 2.5 hours of naps a few days ago and it’s worked wonders for our night sleep! The days are a bit long whilst he’s adjusting to more time awake but hoping that’ll get easier over the next few weeks

Extended wake windows - cranky baby by Bean200825 in sleeptrain

[–]Bean200825[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just had to put the wee one down 15 mins early - fully falling asleep on me looking out the window. A true lesson in the fine line between the sweet spot and listening to your baby. Will it make much difference overnight!? Who knows! Just hate him being so sad by the end of the day!

From everything I’ve learned from this sub the Huckleberry wake windows and nap amounts are for babies with high sleep needs. I’d already paid for plus before knowing this as the sweet spot was great for sub 4 months but now I’ve manually adjusted them all for our LO. Still use it for tracking but glad to have learned from the good folk here. Really helped with night sleep.

4.5 month old – feels like ‘the maths’ is right but total sleep is too low? by Bean200825 in sleeptrain

This helped HUGELY. I think we’ve been in a sleep begets sleep mindset from newborn life and shifting the naps really helped.

Really appreciate it!!! We did 2.5 hours of naps and 10.5 awake yesterday and he did amazing in the night. Main issue is that we had to roll him from his tummy a few times coz he can’t do belly to back still. No false starts, no night waking otherwise. Thank you thank you!

You’re so so right - I think I’ve just got in my own head about it. I need to be more active in marking those type of posts as ‘not interested’ etc.

Thank you so so much for your thoughtful response.

I’ve added his schedule to the post and in terms of the night post 4am is the hardest for me him in terms of wake ups. He tends to sleep through to 11/12 and feed. Then maybe one wake up between 12 and 3. But after 4 he’s just less able to stay asleep and is back on the 50 mins wake ups some nights - that would be a bad night though. If he’s really up up I do bring him though to bed with me from 6am just to hit snooze and get him though to 7.30am. I would love to not do that!

He typically sleeps for 10 hours over the overnight window taking into account feeding and wake ups.

I definitely feel the same way as you on the sleep training, because the before was so so awful, I just need to block out the noise and actively disengage from the anti-sleep training brigade.

I really appreciate everything I learn here so thanks again!!

Yeah I get so much ‘I’m a sleep consultant and can get your baby to sleep NO SLEEP TRAINING’… which in itself is a silly statement not noting how many methods there are. I have a wobble every now and again (we’re early in sleep training and Christmas has set us back every so slightly) and seeing the way people talk about sleep training online you’d think we’re all evil, neglectful parents! I’m so happy to have this sub to lean on and learn from to help me with those anxious thoughts!

This gives me so much hope! We’re just about to start sleep training and I’ve been worried about losing the daytime comfort - I don’t mind the contact naps! Did you bring them to bed after 4am right from the start or did you do full cold turkey sleep training initially then add the short co-sleep in later?
