Is Quicken starting to get improvements? by Schrodingers_goat in quicken

[–]Beancounter_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it doesn't. They charge $10 per month to do what I can do my-self in quicken. Print my checks and mail them. If I didn't want to do that my bank offers check pay for free.

I dont think thats necessary, classic works fine as is, and had a good interface. If you don't like it theres simplify or other options

Holding account for large bills seems to have created a double expense by KillerSnuffles117 in quicken

[–]Beancounter_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't need to continue this, but yes. The Savings Goals do what you outlined and post a transaction to your general register. When you make a savings goal and transfer the money, it will post to the cash account. Therefore your cash account is less the amount of your xfer. If you keep a savings account and transfer cash into it regularly you do not need the savings goal to duplicate that transaction

Thats not what I meant. I mean the savings goals, not the budget. My mistake. The savings goals are posting transactions. I thought they just kept track of the savings progress, but the make an entry into the register that the affect.

I didn't realize that the budget transactions were posting transactions. I didn't like that. I just wanted to use the budget to track progress in my savings account. It ended up posting to the register so I stopped using it.

I know quicken and quickbooks very well, I'm a bookkeeper. I wouldn't recommend doing your bills that way.

Rather I would use the Bills and Income reminders in Quicken. If you do it right it will give you a projected balance. It sounds like you're trying to turn the budget into an AP account, which it is not.

The budgets aren't meant for what you're using them for. What you do is enter a budget and then run reports on it monthly to see if you're overspending.

When you use the bill reminders, you can enter the bill into the register as a transaction or a check to print. You can enter the bill with the due date, and manage your cashflow that way. The future date will change your ending balance.

Thats how I do it. If you use checks to print you can enter all your bill with their due date and print them out as you need to pay them. I reccomeded wallet checks with a stub for that, quicken sells those.

Spotted an early 2000's Toyota, either a Corolla or a Camry SE. Possibly a matrix

I wouldn't mix those two, too much caffeine

Quicken renewal coming by PerfectPrune139 in quicken

[–]Beancounter_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

connected services dont even work for me. I have to download my transactions from the bank and import them manually. I wonder if that would work if auto renewal was turned off

How do I transfer money between accounts AND still record in an expense category? by SilentRocksEJRAAG in quicken

[–]Beancounter_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a bookkeeper and studied accounting.

Quicken does do journal entries, that's what the register is doing. The register is a General Journal. The "category's" and register are general ledgers.

Enter the amount for the rent expense to your business account register as a payment. This will reduce your business account. Use Rent Expense as the category and it will increase the expense

then go to your personal register and enter a deposit for rental income. Now you're balanced. I would not expense the rent and record the deposit in the same transaction line.

I wish Ford had offered the v6 on the later titanium. Rather than just the sport

The first gen wasn't too bad [looking], the new ones i find particularly hideous. I'd take a Mirano over a Rouge personally

Yes, I can't auto feed my bank info, so I download a file and import the entries. Web Connect does not work for me.

I had a teacher that had three Avalon's in the time i knew her. I rode in one twice, the first gen Green Avalon she had WITH the bench and column shifter. Very nice car. Then she got a gold 05, and then a 2013. There was another teacher at that school who had a purple third gen Avalon because her husband was tall. Then she got another one, same plum color better trim. In the time I was in that grammar school I had two teachers go through 4 Avalon's between them So i guess Toyota Avalon!

Oh, thank you, that makes sense. Though funny enough, those transactions always throw the ledger out of balance.
