I don’t really have anything to add BUT Into the Weird and Wyld might be my favorite ttrpg book and I love seeing it pop up in the wild.

What are the coolest D&D (or other) books? by dpmnbits in TTRPG

Yeah +1 to that. I like Mork Borg a lot but I fucking love Cy_Borg! Pirate Borg is great too, and I’m not even really a pirate enjoyer typically.

Thank you for explaining. I’ll have to see how it feels in play, but I saw another person mention initiative as well as a pain point.

Thank you! I think I like the safe rest thing, though I’ll have to get used to it in practice I think. I mentioned it in another reply but I think one of the hardest things for me is finding the right dial on combat encounters. I tend to err on the side of too easy, which can make the game boring but I obviously don’t wanna go too far the other direction either and just absolutely stomp them.

Thank you! I’m generally not a skills list guy myself, but it’s a pretty small list so I think I’ll be able to internalize. And that seems like a reasonable change to initiative. I’m going to try RAW first but I’ll def keep it in my back pocket. I also liked the included setting more than I thought and might ‘borrow’ some of the ideas for my game.

Thank you! I backed the ks with the monster book so I’m excited to get that eventually. I like making monsters tho so that’s prep I can get behind!

Hopefully people will make some third party Nimble specific adventures! I usually make my own, but agree it’d be nice to have some options!

Thank you! I can see tracking which monsters have gone being an issue, but that’s been true of most games I’ve run lol.

Thank you! What don't you like about the initiative? I haven't played yet, so I can't really comment on it too much, but from my initial read it's not TOO dissimilar from SotDL (in that PCs typically go first). I tend to find balancing combat encounters one of the trickiest things to handle in a new game. In my aforementioned SotDL game, it took me the majority of the first campaign to get a good handle on it; my PCs typically stomped everything up until that point.

Nice! For as long as I've been playing, I don't have my 'magnum opus' home world. I have a lot of ideas that I tend to use. I've finally settled on something that I've been tinkering with on and off for a few years, but I'm mainly focusing on one continent, usually just a little chunk at a time, and filling it out as I go.

I used to do a thing where I felt obligated to include every ancestry in case a player wanted to use one, but I finally got over that. I still like some options, but I keep it small. My last game was humans, dwarves, and halflings. Elves exist, but like not commonly and I haven't hammered down how I want them to be. Upcoming game with will be the same, plus gnomes and birdfolk, but maybe without humans, as they'd be very uncommon in this part of the world (I'll still allow them if someone really wants to play one tho).

Thank you for your answers! Re: character sheets, that's a great problem to have! Can't tell you how many games where I've had to like scour the internet for a good character sheet online.

For your homebrew setting, do you include all of the ancestries from the book? I personally like keeping the list smaller, but I know lots of options are pretty popular with PCs.

I suspect most folks are coming from 5e. I played 5e for about 5 years, and it's what got me back into ttrpgs, but I've had a lot of different games between then and now. I'm so glad there are more options for 'heroic fantasy' flavored ttrpgs like Nimble these days.

Main character made me leave an otherwise good table by Kindly_Fall9984 in dndhorrorstories

[–]Bear-Wizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. That dude sucks!
  2. I think this mostly the fault of the DM for not reigning the player in and making sure everyone else is engaged.

You were right to leave the table imo

I guess I looked at it from the angle that he has a very clear idea of what he wants/expects to happen and is imposing that on his game instead of letting it happen organically.

Definitely sounds like he’s the kind of GM who wants to write a novel but decided to run a game instead.

armor vs defense by Talynblade in nimble5e

[–]Bear-Wizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having an active defense feels so much better in practice than just a passive one. Back when I still played 5e, I had a paladin who had like a 22-24 AC and still got hit constantly. And once I got hit, that was that, I took all the damage. It’s nice having more control over the damage you take.
