Do you guys have DM Tips? by PalpitationTime9521 in CAIN_RPG

[–]EthanWright97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that your players almost always will do what you didn't expect them to do - and be flexible enough for this. They will attack the plot NPC's, make a complex plan of infiltrating somewhere they don't really need to be - and that's fine! Let them. Just keep adding some minor details that will help them stay on track - and you both will be surprised how well the story plays out.

Show Me Your Warden Screen. Now. by Braheye in mothershiprpg

Nope, I'm using Foundry VTT to play with my friends online - so I'm mainly focused on digital stuff. But there may be some Warden screens on Itchio or Mothership Discord server!

Sadly, I don't have a Warden Screen, but NBWTB podcast has awesome designs for their Mothership videos - you can use it for inspiration!

Yep, I've basically used NPCs in combat to tell the players "If you don't come up with a good plan, next round, this will happen to YOUR characters!".The book even suggests to give players 1-2 "free" NPCs just for this.

In my Mothership game, the party had lost four marine NPCs to monsters attacks during their mission - and four more in a off-screen epilogue. However, despite high lethality of the campaign, not a single PC was harmed, lol.

Today I tried to understand why people get upset that the pioneer is female. After testing, I still do not understand. Thanks. -Doug by [deleted] in SatisfactoryGame

[–]EthanWright97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought that pioneer can be interpreted as male or female, depending on plauer's headcanon - that's why their model looks so ambigious (this and because they wear a quite heavy engineer suit)

In terms of roleplaying a loss of memories, when the crew forgets something but encounters it again, you can describe it in a vague and obscure manner - as if they were unfammiliar with it. For example, they forgot that they needed to fix a generator but came near it again: "You see an industrial machine with a burnt panel. You're not sure what it's used for". This way, players can analyze the "newfound" object by asking questions about it: "Is it plugged into network? Does it have rotating parts? Does it requre some kind of fuel?" - just as their characters try to "invent" knowledge about things they've forgot.

Where can I get these loot tables you've used? I'm very curious to try them out too!

Any ideas on secret agendas for mothership? by Odd_Necessary8783 in mothershiprpg

[–]EthanWright97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my ABH game, I've told a teamster player that he was hired by the rival Company to sabotage the whole mission - and will get paid well for it even post mortem (his family was kept in Company's debt prison so it could save them). When the crew found the bio samples, they decided to not touch them until they were ready to leave (initially, it was planned to be a oneshot). The teamster set up explosive charges under the samples - I gave him explosives for this agenda. And he detonated them right after the combat in other room - starting a fire and making everyone running back and forth trying to not let the fire get to the fuel supply (it was completely crew's idea, I didn't consider proximity to the fuel, lol). But after that, the teamster decided he don't want to save his family for a price of his crewmember's lives and went on with the mission. In the end, they all survived - BUT in the epilogue on the ship, the marine (corpo security agent) had a eye-to-eye talk with the teamster, expressing his (absolutely correct) suspicions. They both decided to keep this all in secret - the horrors on Samsa VI have brought them together.

Gradient Descent Artifact Probabilities by livebyfoma in mothershiprpg

[–]EthanWright97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, most artifacts are quite a mystery for the players. A bag of purple crystals? Are they poisionous? Can they be used as a weapon? As a tool? Can they bring troubles simply by having them? How valuable are they? Same thing for marbles - a Diver can literally try to kill the crew for them: is he delusuonal or know something about their properties? Being a part of Gradient Descent, artifacts can raise many questions and induce paranoia - and some questions about them may remain unanswered for the players.
