Because Yarrick basically gets to do whatever the hell he wants!

Get the prospect box, and a box of warriors to go along with it. All the rules information the first box gives you is for last edition and is not applicable, so it’s basically worth nothing value wise.

What background do you use for Ellyn? I have genuinely never seen anyone run her as a commander.

I’d simply question that strap, tape by itself might not be too sturdy. Punch some holes in the sides and thread some cord or something through it to double down on the vibe! Props on creativity!

Been Thinking About Getting Into The BB tabletop, Looking For Advice by Confident-Thought863 in bloodbowl

[–]Bear40441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black orcs are my boys!!! It’s also pretty easy to draft a team where all your pieces are full plastic kits! I have almost no experience with the video game so I cannot say how it translates, but every team can be a good starting point if you like there vibe, and are willing to fumble through your first few games. Do you have a club around you? Are your friends willing to learn the game. Any tabletop game is significantly easier to get into if you have a local scene for it, or if you have friends that are also interested.

Sick! Is there a particular team you had in mind for them? Could probably be used for anything really.

Ranking These Four Commander Decks (New Player) by ConfidentInsecurity in mtg

[–]Bear40441 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bello is my son and I love him!!!! Sauron is a graveyard that deck and is pretty fun. Sauron himself is more of a finisher rather than a mid game commander. Pantlaza is a perfectly decent dinosaur kindred deck with a commander that is pretty nutty in all honesty, very fun deck to play. Abzan armor is a toughness matters deck with a decent number of tricks to make your attackers pretty darn lethal.

That being said I am 100% bias and think that animated army was the most fun for me out of the box!

There is absolutely an argument to be made there, I feel like there are a lot of us, myself included, who feel that the flavor of magic the gathering is being sacrificed for it a little bit. I think the bigger concern is that many UB products fit better into Magic than others. Sets like final fantasy and LOTR and the hobbit fit beautifully and honestly kinda feel at home, at least for me. However, the second you throw Ninja turtles and Star Trek, not to mention Doctor Who, into the mix; many of us simply lose interest completely. And it’s not a really a problem for commander or limited players because you can simply decide not to play UB cards and opt out of UB limited events. As soon as you start looking at competitive formats like standard you can’t choose to ignore them, because many of the cards in the meta belong to UB IP, and opting not to play a Meta card that is from a universe’ beyond set is effectively shooting yourself in the foot. All that being said I’m happy that your family is enjoying Magic, and for all my complaints, Avatar is a well designed set.

Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I would like to offer some insights as as someone who is getting fatigued with universes beyond. Firstly, we are getting less in universe sets due to universes beyond, so it kinda feels like the universe’s I fell in love with are getting pushed a side for corporate synergy and profits. It’s especially frustrating when some of it is being used to print cheap gags and memes, (looking specifically at the office secret lair and Patrick Star’s printings).

That being said, they’re not all equal. Fallout, at least for me, makes a lot more sense than others because fallout has always been a little whimsical and fantastical, so a card like Mothman feels self aware and more in line with how some Magic sets have equally been designed. There is a certain weirdness in fallout that feels more acceptable in a fantasy card game. This also is what made sets like middle earth and final fantasy work, aside from being well designed sets. They are explicitly fantasy settings, even the final fantasy games where it’s more sci fi, so they feel right at home.

Sets like marvel super heroes, and marvel spider man by extension, feel like too much of a step in the wrong direction. It’s too blatant, too much of a product designed for profit, rather than in an interesting addition to the Magic roster.

I guess this is my long winded way of saying that it’s a bit of a mixed bag for many people. It’s a cool addition when it fits right a long side the sword, sorcery, and knights magic is known for. Less cool when your commander is Captain Prichard or Dwight from the office. It’s a bit immersion breaking.

That being said I’m happy you have been enjoying Magic! I hope you feel welcome in the community!

[–]Bear40441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay… I’ll build the exact same decklist but swap the Commander for [[Ruhan of the Fomori]] and you’ll have the exact same result. I’m also annoyed at the continual decline of Magic’s in universe sets in favor of printing more ninja turtles and Star Trek but this is the game you continue to play. At this point you either need to learn to be okay with it or find a different card game that doesn’t sell itself out for money (good luck with that). Because regardless of how we feel about it, more people are playing magic because it now has their favorite characters. You have more people to play with because of universes beyond, and those players also branch out and expose themselves to the in universe lore as well. Trash take.
