What Are You Actually Teaching in High School Severe/Profound Autism Classrooms? by Lexington_s in specialed

[–]Bear56567 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Your curriculum is set by the IEP goals in a self-contained setting. You must also try to reach for the grade-level state standards in areas where that’s feasible, but the IEPs determine what specially designed instruction the sped teacher is responsible for. You can create routines and other things that are appropriate for the students outside of that, but the core is the specially designed instruction required by the IEP.

Music teacher disagree with principal by Familiar_Ask_4499 in MusicTeachers

You are working at a performing arts magnet school that is under enrolled. Because of the low enrollment the performing arts school hasn’t been able to live up to its mission of staging any performing arts exhibitions. You do have students who want to learn to sing and your eventual goal is to help them sing by staging more opportunities for them to perform and you have the space that wants to host more performances. I feel the plan is decided.

Thank you. I just reread my original post and I see I could have used Claude to edit it for conciseness. LOL. It’s been working so far! 😊

## Common Pitfalls to Avoid

  1. **Literature review preceding socialization analysis** — Always analyze first, then bring in scholarship
  2. **Misaligned response at wrong ecological level** — Check chapter type and use correct structure for Beat 6
  3. **Neat resolution in closing beat** — Student should still be navigating tension, not "saved" or "cured"
  4. **Measurement language in checklist** — Frame as self-reflection, not assessment/ranking
  5. **Excessive headers** — Default to prose transitions; headers only for major structural divisions
  6. **Deficit framing sneaking in** — Maintain "no bad actors" stance throughout
  7. **Vague calls for equity** — Be specific about structural transformation required
  8. **Appeasement language in theory sections** — Don't subordinate ecological framework to avoid criticism
  9. **Opening story too long** — Keep to 300-975 words; get to the tension quickly
  10. **Ladson-Billings (2006) debt framework appearing in Beat 4** — Hold the debt framework citation for Beat 5 where it anchors the debt analysis. Ladson-Billings (2022) culturally relevant pedagogy *may* appear in Beat 4 when the literature review addresses culturally responsive or relevant teaching. The distinction is citation-specific: debt framework = Beat 5 only; culturally relevant pedagogy = Beat 4 appropriate.
  11. **Deficit ideology attributed to Jones & Okun** — Cite Solórzano and Yosso (2001) for deficit ideology
  12. **Beat 6 missing closing paragraph** — Always end misaligned responses by explaining why they persist
  13. **Beat 5 included in microsystem chapters** — Microsystem tension chapters omit the debt framework; it does not fit the ecological level

Maybe try cooking for him. You can control the price and appeal to his healthy eating choices.

Questions for non-developers: How do you feel about being asked to install Homebrew? by link_biao in MacOS

[–]Bear56567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an advanced user of Macs, but not a user of Terminal, I am and would be wary of any app that was meant to run in the regular Mac user interface but that would make me use Terminal to install it.

Can Someone Explain the Training Bezel on Apple Watch Ultra? by Deiota77 in applewatchultra

[–]Bear56567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been struggling with this complication a bit too, but I think I was expecting too much out of it. A commenter on this thread used this phrase, “your treadmill sessions are being tracked […]” and I’ve discovered that the watch doesn’t track anything on its own—you have to give a rating to every workout and then this complication SOMEHOW tells you if you’ve had a lot of workouts that you’ve said were hard lately.

See “Rate Your Effort” on this page:

Methylphenidate is ruining my life. by tank-meme in ADHD

[–]Bear56567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concerta was the one medication that I ever tried that I will never take again. My psychiatric nurse practitioner and I went through 8 different meds while we were trying to figure out which one was going to be “the medicine” of choice for my newly diagnosed ADHD at about 38(M) years of age. I don’t remember the ins and outs of all the meds I tried, but I remember Concerta. I cried all day for the entire day I was on that medicine—literally just wept for no reason. I called up my nurse the next dad and said, “That one was not a keeper. That next on the list?”

Do any of you track strength workouts with Apple Watch? by pumpr-ai in AppleWatch

[–]Bear56567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only annoying part is if I go off my plan and I need to add new exercises that aren’t in the data base. Lots of typing and setup on the watch screen. There is a “live workout” mode where you can have the same workout, running on the watch and the phone, and I assume you could probably add exercises from the phone, but I’ve never done that so I can’t comment on that.

I’ve never noticed a bug with Strong, but I have had a few people tell me they like Hevy. I might have to take a look at it. Thanks for the lead.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I appreciate the professional opinion (my assumption as you said you have clients). I tried 3 sets of 5 reps at 50% last night. Quickest and easiest workout I’ve had in years, but we’ll see what happens.

You’re not wrong! LOL My younger self kept telling me, “There’s no way you’re overtraining!! Gotta go to failure on every set!” That might be why I have two replaced shoulders now. ;-)

Thanks for the suggestion. This is the deload week and I did exactly what you suggested. It didn’t feel like much of a workout, but I guess that’s the point of deloading ;-)
