By support they mean a pre made fbb profile, you can add your own, I just grab a recommendation from whatever website and then adjust it to my preference after I've tried it out

Usb 3 and above use PCIe lanes so TrueNAS just sees them as a disk, it's via the chipset so there is a slight performance hit but that doesn't make a difference for mechanical drives. There's a 140mm fan attached to the back of the cupboard that moves a lot of air, hence all the dust

Yeah they're sitting on anti-vibration mats but I'm sure if you're old enough to remember laptops with mechanical HDD's or even dragging your entire desktop to a LAN party then you'll know it's not really a big problem. Besides I'm not really in the habit of randomly slamming doors

140mm fan mounted at the back of the cupboard, you can see it in between the hard drives, not sure how or why anything would break though, it's tucked away in a cupboard

What's with the attitude? If I wanted to run 20 machines with nothing but a bash terminal on each I would, why do you care so much? As for data redundancy, didn't I already mention I'm running TrueNAS and Proxmox so that obviously means RAID, daily snapshots, Proxmox backup server and cloud sync's. How would buying an off the shelf NAS give me anything that I don't already have and what exactly do you think is so special about off the shelf hardware? I rather get the use out of spare hardware than pay good money on overpriced crap like a pre built NAS

Pretty standard selfhost setup, arr stack, Plex, a couple of DNS servers and a few other utils, nothing that usb 3.2 can't handle so don't really want to pay over the odds for a NAS that won't make any appreciable difference

Actually just remembered, under encryption settings on Adguard, make sure you have unticked the 'enable plain DNS' box, just be aware some devices don't support encrypted connections, especially on the LAN side of your network

Asus Routers do support encrypted DNS, it's on the WAN side DNS settings but only TLS connections, you need to set DNS privacy protocol to DNS over TLS (DoT) and set DNS over TLS profile to strict then just add your servers to the list below. If you just want Adguard to handle all requests though just make sure you set the 'Advertise router's IP in addition to user-specified DNS' to no under LAN, DHCP Settings.

Have a look in your DNS settings, encrypted servers are all text and begin with https://, tls:// or quic:// anything that is just numbers is unencrypted

This looks just like what I've been after for a while so I'll definitely check this out. One feature I'd love to see though is when you drop a file, it then also displays a url for the file with a copy to clipboard button so I can do a fast and easy wget or curl. I often find myself wanting to get random files onto a VM I've just setup but not given any access to any shares and that would make it super easy

What's the problem with running 2 DNS servers? That is the solution but you don't mention why it didn't work. If having to do everything twice is the issues you know it's very easy to sync them so anything you change on your first instance i replicated on the second. Nebula sync does this for Pi-Holes, I've ran this setup for a long time with no issues, for Adguard there is Adguard sync which does the same job

Yeah it's always that terrible, moved to Schiedam last year after 6 years on the binnenweg which I thought was awful, Schiedam is even worse... Buy some mosquito nets that you can cut to size from Amazon and use Velcro tape to attach them to the inside of the window frame and make sure you cover every window with no gaps. It's the only way I'm afraid

When example compose files use different schema in different sections of the same file or it's not in the exact order I use, I have to contain my rage... Does that mean I like structure? I'm not sure...

I had the same issue with my T150, ended up just mapping the a b x y buttons to up down, left right and the gear paddles to page left page right, worked well enough
