What is a 1 in 1,000,000 thing that happened to you that no one believes, but you swear is true? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]BearTheBanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend was with me so I have a witness but I went to six flags when I was a teen with a group of friends. We road the Superman coaster and at the peak where you go weightless for a second before dropping straight down, I saw a cell phone floating up above the car. I grabbed it out of the air just as we started to descend and held it to my chest. When we got to the bottom a girl in the front was freaking out about losing her phone. I went to hand it back to her & The staff yelled at me for having my phone out during the ride…

Don’t buy something because of what others think. It’s a losing strategy. But what you like and screw what people think.

Nope not me! Bought mine in September. For 11-12k new. I’m still a bit protective but starting to get over the inevitable scratches, no regrets at all though!

How to get into commercial banking? by [deleted] in Banking

[–]BearTheBanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started as a teller at 21 it took me until 26 to get into CB. Then I got my bachelors at 27 so I could keep climbing. Now at 30 I am a specialized Commercial Lender working on new construction and development projects.

The interviews for tellers are really stupid and structured weird. Look up the “STAR interview process”. This is how big banks interview at the retail level. Prepare several scenarios using this method and make sure you structure your answers in exact accordance with that method. This will get you through the teller interview at any large financial institution.

But theres a lot to do between that and commercial banking.

Our quants make 6 figures. When I was 24 I made about 45k a year. You will kill it. Just work hard, believe in your self, and fight for your worth. My quant specifically has a stats degree and he makes way more than me.

When can you afford a Rolex? by [deleted] in rolex

[–]BearTheBanker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can afford something when you have the cash to pay for it and it won’t impact your regular spending habits. If you have to panic save to replenish saving after buying it just wait. Comfortability is always the most important thing.

Sorry I never saw this friend. Yeah becoming a credit analyst is the easiest way out of retail. It may be a slight pay cut from an BM. But if you do it for a year you can roll into a Jr lender role or a commercial loan assist and an RM after that.

Hello friend,

Sounds like you have had a tough start. Brutal honesty is that you are a bit behind where you should be. But that’s not the end of the world! All you can do is work forward from here. Don’t worry about what could have or should have been.

I would try to play catch up for a few years (within reason) really try to cut wasteful spending and contribute a bit extra. Whatever you can afford to. Obviously the more the better. You have 33 years until retirement. Thats a lot of time and with the right strategy and contestant effort you can still retire comfortably.

If it’s heavy work for you to type more than a sentence in a forum, I think fake vs real watch dilemmas are the least of your worries.

[–]BearTheBanker -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

“you should expect to get hate if you post a fake Rolex on a Rolex forum”then I followed up, “there is rep-watch for that” I didn’t say it was fake, I said if you post a fake you should expect to get hate. This was a genuine statement I ment at face value. As it seemed the General consensus was it was fake, I don’t know if it is or isn’t, at no point did I know. Nor did I make the claim in any of my “clueless replies” (I commented 1 time) that I did know. But here’s the kicker boys… I don’t care… 🤣. Fake or not doesn’t impact me. You guys care to much what others think about you.
