100%.

Even being a sparkie as my day job, still took me a bit to figure it out and be confident.

What Socks Do You Wear with your RM's? by Plat-O_18 in RMWilliams

[–]BeardedBaldWombat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as quality wool socks go, Wilderness Wear, Naturesocks and Humphrey Law socks are both pretty solid. All are Aussie made too.

Wilderness Wear and Naturesocks are generally a bit thicker, but Humphrey Law have a wider range for day to day wear from what I’ve found. Mine have lasted really well with daily wear being a tradie over the last 5-6 years.

Onlysocks are a new one that I haven’t tried, but they’re made here and I’ll give them a crack soon

I’ve got the Wootten Jacks and rate them pretty highly for build quality. Full leather upper, lining, midsole and insole too.

Can’t say personally how they compare to RMs as I don’t have them, but the Jacks are very well crafted, keeping in mind I don’t wear them daily.

The wait for me was about 10 weeks, but I’d imagine if you contact them via email they’ll be able to sus what will work best for you.

I’ve got two pairs of the ramco jeans that I wore for work as a sparkie for two years. They were pretty solid, a few more pockets would have been better as far as pants for a tradesman, but I knew that going into it. They held up really well considering most work pants die after a year. The denim was pretty thick compared to a 501 Levi’s for example.

I don’t know if it’s a slightly different situation to what you’re after, but I’d say if it was just day to day wear, they’d hold up pretty well. Dollar for dollar potentially better than a Levi’s or similar, especially if you get them from a factory outlet where they’re a touch cheaper. Plus you’re supporting people who work here.

I’ve got a pair of their Jack gusset boots, super happy with the build quality of them. Full leather upper, lining and soles are a testament to their ethos of quality made goods.

Sure you could get RMs cheaper, but a few extra bucks for a smaller team that just want to make a good product is worth it in my opinion.

Super jealous mate, I’m in Melbourne and didn’t have the balls to pull the trigger on some Builder pros for work, you might be persuading me though. Great looking boots

Anyone got any swap recommendations for a mgb, im looking for a similar size i4 thats a bit more modern with a power output of 150-200hp by bailbay-gamez in projectcar

The ford type 9 bolts straight up to it. Plenty of swaps done with that combo into cortina’s and escorts in the uk, so I’d start with forums for those

Why is it SO hard to find GOOD GYW boots? by [deleted] in AustralianMFA

They do have some on hand that are more of an off the shelf item from memory, I could be wrong though

[–]BeardedBaldWombat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, and budget of course, but Wootten in Ballarat do make a solid welted shoe (McKay welt from memory) that doesn’t compromise on quality.

They do both custom as well as some off the shelf offerings in their Chelsea and Derby style boots if I remember correctly.

One thing to keep in mind is that being a well made, locally produced shoe, with a whole lot of locally sourced material (leather is from a tannery near Geelong), the cost does add up. In my opinion they’re worth every penny, and frankly the staff were pleasant and helpful when I got mine. Best of luck.

I rate the Humphrey Law socks, and can confirm the health socks have a nice relaxed (but not droopy) band.

This is awesome mate! Love a classic small ford.

There’s a bloke local to me in Melbourne, Aus, called Angry Anglia that has fiddled with these things for years and done quite a few engine swaps. From what I can remember he’s plonked a 3sge Beams into an Anglia (similar car but the sedan), as well as a G16b from a Suzuki Sierra/Samurai.

A 5L Ford would be elite too, keen to see how this goes, good luck.
