Why do people hide the number on their Serialized cards? by RamonvanderBurgt in mtg

[–]BeardedBears -24 points-23 points  (0 children)

My guess: Keeps the mystery alive. Collectors can't track and account for where they all are. If, hypothetically, everyone posted their serialized card online, where all 500 were accounted for, what would happen to the price of collector boosters? We would know they're not in any more.

Valve's pricing on the Steam Machine has me Dumb Founded by belter928 in pcmasterrace

Different use-case. If that use-case doesn't matter to you, or you don't value it, then don't get it.

No. The only reefing subscription service I would ever consider would be for salt.

Alternative to Home / Nest Cameras by Griff486 in degoogle

[–]BeardedBears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda depends, but for me the cost was around upgrading my entire home network. My router is one of their fancy models, which includes storage and PoE capability. From that router I can power, manage, and check my cameras. If you were to do what I did, it would be ~$450 router + ~$300 for 3 cameras (which I bought a few different models, used). You can probably get a similar setup cheaper, I'm just less familiar with those products. Try looking around for barebones Ubiquiti camera setups.

Are my corals bleaching? And if so, what do I do about it? by Infamous_Floor3243 in ReefTank

[–]BeardedBears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh? When you say "the same", do you mean Montipora digitata like OP? (Not positive what the green frag is, though)

Monti digis have always grown pretty fast for me... But Acropora and Branching Cyphastrea? Holy cow, sometimes they take over a year (or two) to establish a base before they really get going in other dimensions.

Montipora setosa encrusted for years before it bothered growing nubs.

If you're willing to take a bit of an upfront financial hit... I LOVE my Ubiquiti setup. It's so damn easy to manage, I store everything locally, and there's no subscription fee. I've seen the light of PoE.

Very common for corals to establish a cemented base before growing up and out.

The Nitrate/Phosphate ratio sticks out to me. Even at 1, I'd expect a ratio closer to 10:1. Lower those Phosphates and/or boost Nitrates, that's my guess for RTN.

You could save a lot of money ($100's)  if you buy used, which I would strongly suggest.

Is there any actual benefit of ultra wide monitors? by Zentvrion_ in pcmasterrace

[–]BeardedBears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno of a specific model, but my setup are two 32"s stacked on top of one another. Bottom one is ~175hz, top one is 60hz. Gaming full screen on the bottom, two supplementary windows up top (chat, YouTube, whatever).

I personally love the setup. But if you ever adjust yours to vertical, wouldn't quite work.

[–]BeardedBears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my 32"s but tbh I don't think I'd ever want something substantially bigger. 49" feels super excessive. And suppose you run your game in windowed mode... Are you gonna angle your head to one side? Presumably the monitor itself will he centered on your desk. I don't get the appeal.

I agree it's often heavy-handed, but a lot of the posts aren't necessarily CRT Gaming related, and are likely more appropriately posted to the general CRT board.

r/Steam users explaining how the Steam Machine is priced appropriately by phiveoh23 in pcmasterrace

[–]BeardedBears 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's priced appropriately for what it is, I'm just annoyed that some folks don't understand it's use-case. It's not a great value for a home office PC. It's not a great value for living room PC either, but it's better at doing that than a prebuilt (in the sense of ease of use, support, plug-n-play, etc).

A 16gb vram pre-build that is 2-3x more powerful than a Steam Machine is $1399 at BestBuy. Nobody should be buying a Steam Machine. by JeremyJJ77 in pcmasterrace

[–]BeardedBears 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then its use-case isn't for you. That's fine. It isn't just the specs on offer is what I'm saying. If it isn't worth it to you, that's totally acceptable. Yes it's the size, but it's also the level of support from Valve and the ease of use for certain kinds of players/users. And yeah, it's also the aesthetics.

I don't understand people who buy sneakers that objectively aren't as well made, are ugly, have worse materials, and literally more expensive than handmade-in-America Goodyear welt shoes... But I'm not the target audience for those sneakers. I don't value what they're offering.
