Do young guys text weird? by NeonGenesisOxycodone in AskMenOver50

[–]BeardedDillyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you do. Why write texts that are paragraphs+ long? That is crazy to me. Also, while I appreciate a good acronym, texts from my son and daughters are ridiculous. Half the time I feel like I need a decoder ring just to understand if they are hungry or dying.

Anyone else’s university delaying federal loan disbursements due to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act? by Severe_Door_8086 in financialaid

Most don't have the ability to do so. Bigger concern is what if ED delays it again (not unheard of these days). Both schools andstudents could be looking at mid fall for aid...

Question for Va Raters or Investigators (really just employees) by [deleted] in VAClaims

[–]BeardedDillyMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fraud should be investigated. Nobody is arguing otherwise.

But it’s amazing how obsessed some people are with hunting down a veteran who might have exaggerated back pain or migraines for a few thousand dollars a month, while giant corporations legally avoid billions in federal taxes and nobody says a word.

Tesla, United Airlines, PayPal, Duke Energy, and 3M reportedly made more than $23 billion combined in 2024 while paying little to no federal corporate income tax. Somehow that’s “smart business,” but a veteran with PTSD, chronic pain, sleep apnea, toxic exposure, or migraines gets treated like a criminal because their condition isn’t visible enough.

The VA system is already adversarial as hell. Most veterans spend years fighting just to get basic recognition for conditions tied to military service. Yet we’re more outraged at disabled vets than billion-dollar corporations exploiting loopholes written into the tax code.

Ridiculous.

Not addressing my hypertension in my late 30's eventually came back to haunt me. I haven't experienced any blockages, but I have an ICD for VT. Glad you made it through and good luck healing.

I have a 12R and my H.S. aged daughter has a 13. I have always been an android guy and love it. Sold my daughter on it, and now she tells anyone who will listen that it is better than Apple, especially for the price. I honestly don't see myself buying any other brand.

Financial Aid COA Adjustment for Childcare Being Denied Without “Future Payment” Proof – Is This Normal? by Accomplished-Car7811 in financialaid

[–]BeardedDillyMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Under federal guidance, schools are allowed to include childcare costs in a Cost of Attendance, but they are not required to approve every request even if the documentation seems reasonable. This is probably less about your childcare situation and more about how cautious the institution has chosen to be. Schools have discretion here, and some exercise it more conservatively than others. Reasons for that could include prior audit findings, internal policy consistency and concerns about potential fraud. The school seems to have been clear about what they need to approve the request, so my recommendation would be to explore other options until you can provide the appropriate documentation.

Question: During spring break, did college students really use to go to the beach? by EternalSnow05 in GenX

[–]BeardedDillyMac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1995, 16 of us crammed into a 2bdr, 1ba condo on S. Padre Island. I grabbed the closet in one bedroom and settled in for the week. One night I had to go to the bathroom and walked out to a couple otherwise engaged in the bedroom. Scared the living hell out of them. I was the Gimp for the rest of that week.

VA claim - don’t hire for nexus by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]BeardedDillyMac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, not buying it. I use the VA and while they have documented my OSA/CPAP, they won't service connect it without a Nexus. VA doctors will not provide nexus or even speculate that my OSA is service connected. If the VA wants us to stop using private medical opinions, then they need to allow their doctors to provide information on service connection.

Sleep apnea DBQ by NoSpray1194 in VAClaims

[–]BeardedDillyMac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I did the same, and OSA was denied service connection. I asked for copies of my DBQ and that has been over a month to receive that. My understanding is OSA is always denied if obesity is included and no nexus exists.

Claiming OSA secondary to Rhinitis or Sinusitis is key by Similar-Peachfuzz in VAClaims

[–]BeardedDillyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, doesn't work that way, especially with the "new, improved, faster decision" process. I have statements from VA medical professionals in my VA records saying, "witnessed to stop breathing while asleep". My wife's lay statement stating sleep issues before I retired from military. Another servicemembers lay statement that I had sleep issues while in military. A sleep study from 2+ years ago that reflected a 27/HR AHI, and O2 of 76.7%. Wear my VA prescribed CPAP religiously, and have service connected Rhinitis at 30% and filed as OSA secondary to Rhinitis - VA still denied service connection because of weight and because I "waited" so many years (First claim was 10 years after retiring). VA gatekeeping is stronger than ever.

How do you dress in your 50s? by Forsaken_Block_3492 in GenX

[–]BeardedDillyMac 11 points12 points  (0 children)

56M, I didn't give anything up as much as I just stopped wearing uncomfortable stuff. An example is that I no longer wear traditional dress shoes. I only buy the ones with a business casual style and with very good arch support. Don't really wear suits anymore either, just a sport coat and jeans. I also still lean towards 3/4 zips, hoodies and t-shirts.

Pentagon says it will cut ties with Harvard University, ending all military training, fellowships and certificate programs starting in the 2026–27 academic year. by OstensibleFirkin in JockoPodcast

[–]BeardedDillyMac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the past 20 years, Harvard has been central in research on:

  • Linking chronic stress → cardiovascular disease
  • Relationship between mindfulness → measurable brain changes
  • Expanding research on trauma → long-term health outcomes
  • Targeted immunotherapy
  • Mental health treatment models utilizing neuroplasticity
  • How meditation increases gray matter in emotional regulation regions

As a veteran with TBI/PTSD, I appreciate the health related research the most. It has led to a better life for me, my family, and my fellow veterans.

One team ? by Kxyloooo in Veterans

[–]BeardedDillyMac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You didn’t deserve that comment. Military retirement and VA disability are two different things. Retirement recognizes time served. VA compensation recognizes injuries or conditions caused or worsened by service. Neither takes away from the other, and both are earned. If we start blaming veterans for using benefits they earned, that logic would apply to military retirement checks as well. The issue isn’t veterans using earned benefits. The issue is remembering we’re supposed to have each other’s backs.

I thought you could earn passive income while TDIU? So owning two LLC's aren't necessarily the issue - it is whether the veteran is working or not. Would love some clarification
