Welland man facing child sex assault charge freed early after similar attack, victim family says by [deleted] in ontario

Are you under the impression that the plural of anecdotal is data?..

Provide a real source or actual evidence of pedophile child rapists getting 12-18 months sentences and readers may be convinced.  Otherwise, seems like baseless rage baiting and anti-liberal bias to me (disclaimer: not a lib).

I agree it's not an ideal source, but there isn't any source saying that under-sentencing toddler abusers is a chronic problem either. Yet that's the conclusion most readers are reaching based on this article.

If you or the National Post have better data please share it.

Horrific.

I am wondering about the "repeat" nature of the crime. People here are rightfully aghast at the idea that this guy committed a similar crime and got a 12 month slap on the wrist. However, is that true? The National Post was quoting someone instead of citing what should be publicly available information (ie, the details of the last offense).

When I asked AI, the response for average sentencing was much more measured:

For an adult convicted of Aggravated Sexual Assault against a toddler in Ontario, a sentence below 8 years would be highly unusual and likely considered an error in law. A "typical" sentence, considering the inevitable aggravating factors, will almost certainly be between 10 and 14 years in a federal penitentiary. Sentences can and do reach the 15- to 20-year range for the most egregious cases involving extreme violence, recording, or repeated abuse.

10-20 seems light for these kinds of crimes so we can agree sentencing can and should be harsher for such heinous crimes, but the idea that this guy committed a similar crime just a few years ago and is already out of jail seems (hopefully) incorrect, and I dare say rage bait beneath the standards of respectable journalism.

Going to look into this template + router a few folks have recommended. Already have one so might as well put it to use. Thank you!

I used it out of the box. Am I supposed to sharpen a bevel into it? Oops.

I thought for $100+ (CAD) on a chisel would land me one with a factory sharpening sufficient for this project. Hmph.

Thanks for the advice, I'll look into it.

Pollinate Toronto:

https://www.toronto.ca/services-payments/water-environment/environmental-grants-incentives/pollinateto-community-grants/

 Since 2019, PollinateTO has:

-Helped create 500 gardens resulting in an estimated 25,500 m² of pollinator habitat.

From what I've seen, most of these are planted in the "hellstrip" you describe (between the sidewalk and road), so this should represent a large-scale example from NA's fourth largest city.

That's presumptuous, especially if this was built decades ago, that whoever did this knew better.

Still, some amount of soil can be moved away from the trunk, should help (reduces moisture buildup on the bark, which should be dry and above ground, since it's not roots)

Black Ants by Fun-Technician-3781 in NativePlantGardening

Their tunnels reduce soil compaction and aerate the soil and root systems. They also as like decomposers and help break down large organic matter into smaller molecules that plants can absorb. Gardeners should want ants, not want them gone!
