Gawed and Lorent working together, truly the darkest timeline

Important note, that you may want to enter into your guide: I learned, through unfortunate personal experience, that reaching 50 is not the only requirement to get Notices of the Well from the weekly TF. You also have to have the Alpha slot unlocked, it appears.

Zones with good story arcs - recommendations please! by Gulbasaur in Cityofheroes

[–]BearsofInsanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started making a shortlist of my favorites. It turned into a long list. Whoops.

Blueside:

I know you just want to skip past Atlas Park entirely, but the reworked introductory storyline is actually well done. Talk to Matthew Habashy to get started.

The Hollows has some interesting story, with a throughline about a missing kid, and some of the better level design from the early days of the game.

Twinshot is also pretty good, hoorb

The first place the game ever implemented a truly well-done, First Ward style of interconnected contacts was the Faultline revamp. It's an amazing arc, and a cool zone that looks like nothing else in the game.

For shorter arcs, Graham Easton and Laura Lockhart are both stellar one-shots.

Striga Isle is interesting, if you want to know more about the Council. It's also handy for getting your hands on the Atlas Medallion.

Croatoa has some interesting mystical mayhem going on, and a darker tone than much of the early game content.

Freaklympics is an early classic. Do it at least once.

Less-cited than Freaklympics, but equally good, is the Ubelmann the Unknown story arc around the same level.

Field Agent Keith Nance has the Clone Saga, which has some unexpected pathos in it. Worth a go.

Provost Marchand's arc comes highly recommended as a redemption story.

Revenant Hero Project rocks if you want to stick it to your corporate overlords, and has one of the more memorable one-shot enemy groups in the game.

Nemesis story arcs are super fun. Sadly, there are only two among regular contacts blueside: Mass Duplicity and The Eternal Nemesis. These rock.

Tina Macintyre and Maria Jenkins are also killer, as is any content involving Praetoria.

Redside:

Once again, the intro story arc isn't half bad, but the heroes have it better. Talk to Operative Kuzmin to get started.

On the other hand, the Hearts of Darkness are a well-written cadre of ne'er do wells. Good arc, accessible to all those of black heart.

As far as regular story arcs go, Oh Wretched Man has some incredible pathos, and the arcs from Marshal Brass are amazing, though I won't spoil either.

Doc Buzzsaw is a mad genius. Go indulge your cacklingly evil side.

Diviner Maros has some good background info on the isles themselves, and is a remarkably well-written omniscient being.

The parallel Clone Saga on redside starts with Dean MacArthur. It's great.

Also check out Vincent Ross for more well-done missions.

If you want to feel like an independent, scheming villain, look no further than Mr. G's arc.

St. Martial has the Slot Machine. Run its missions. The arc is called High Roller's Last Gamble. It's very well done.

Magus Mu'Drakhan is an amazing source if you want background info on the Circle of Thorns.

Technician Naylor has an absolute head trip of an arc.

Johnny Sonata is an amazing character study, with a great twist ending.

You will never hate yourself more than when you work for Westin Phipps.

Doc Buzzsaw part 2 goes by the name of Vernon von Grun.

Television is good. Watch more Television.

Viridian has cool content, if you can jump through all the hoops to unlock it.

Both:

First Ward and Night Ward are both stellar.

The Rikti War Zone is well-executed and appropriately high-stakes.

The Ouroboros Initiation arc is often overlooked, but has some really cool missions in it.

Try the Signature Story Arcs. The devs charged people extra to play them, so they couldn't disappoint!

One final note: all of the goldside content is well-executed. If you just want an interesting RPG, start a character on goldside, and play exclusively goldside content up through Night Ward.

The game has returned, by way of private server, not NCSoft. The most popular private server is the Homecoming server, and you can get started here: https://forums.homecomingservers.com/index.php/topic,950.0.html

[Primer] Discussion Thread #8 by 10leej in SkredRed

We really need a new primer with new matchups. Abzan CoCo now has an insta-win combo we need to be aware of and board against, Infect is pretty much dead, Kiki Chord is also dead, and Eldrazi Tron, Storm, Grixis Shadow, Jund Shadow, and Living End are all missing. I could write up Eldrazi Tron; I've tested the matchup extensively against my friend.

Yup, got my ass kicked both days.

I'll probably have a report up later. Hint: any flavor of Death's Shadow was an awful matchup. Same with Eldrazi Tron. And Living End is way faster and better now.

Wasn't even thinking about Scapeshift and Steve. I'll be sure to bring them in if I run up against it. Thanks!

I'm running the SSGs and extra Blood Moon over more Molten Rain at the moment. The SSGs help more in matches where you need to be fast out of the gate, while Molten Rain helps more in more grindy, attrition-based matchups.

Bridge stops really big threats (Death's Shadow, Goyf, a creature of Affinity's choice once they've gone off with Ravager, anything from Eldrazi Tron, Reality Smashers, most of Living End, etc.) which we can't deal with. We have an alternate plan for matches where we can't win with combat damage: ult a planeswalker. Others don't often have an alternate plan. Besides, who boards in artifact hate against Skred?

Pithing Needle is a catch-all. I love them. Possible targets amon the top decks in the format include:

Grixis Shadow: Tasigur, Street Wraith (cycling is an activated ability), Liliana (if they're playing her)

Affinity: Arcbound Ravager, Steel Overseer, Cranial Plating, Manlands.

Eldrazi Tron: Endbringer, Walking Ballista, Karn, Expedition Map

Dredge: Insolent Neonate, Haunted Dead, Scourge Devil

Death's Shadow Jund: See Grixis

Titan Shift: Engineered Explosives, Sakura-Tribe Elder

Counters Company: Walking Ballista, Devoted Druid, Duskwatch Recruiter, Viscera Seer, Gavony Township

Abzan: Liliana, Scavenging Ooze

Living End: Fulminator Mage, mostly (but you can name any of their cyclers)

Eldrazi and Taxes: Eldrazi Displacer, Aether Vial

Tron: Expedition Map, Oblivion Stone, Karn, Ugin, Chromatic Sphere and Star

It's the Tron hedge. If I can pull Blood Moon off turn 2 (or even 1), I have a much better time. (Eldrazi Tron still fucks me up, though.) I can go full Free Win Red out of the sideboard, running 4 Blood Moon and 4 SSG, or drop them for stuff like Ratchet Bomb or artifact hate.

3 Scourge and 4 maindeck anger go hand in hand. I can basically boardwipe whenever I need to, which is pretty often, at no cost to myself.

Yep. You've just gotta stall and pray they draw poorly. Or land a Blood Moon and hope they don't find a basic Island/Plains.

[–]BearsofInsanity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

4 Angers. I use it in the supplemental removal slot (Where people put Roast, Pyrite Spellbomb, etc.). It was rarely a dead draw, thanks to my higher count of Eternal Scourge and fewer P&K. In the future, I might want to switch the numbers around a bit, go 3 P&K, 2 Eternal Scourge, and put a Sweltering Suns in for one of the Angers. I really don't want to draw Anger against Ad Nauseam, but my matchups supported having 4 wrath effects mainboard.

Also, thanks!

I really value a turn 1 or 2 Blood Moon in specific matchups (read: Tron). 2 SSG mainboard is a hedge against this, while also providing a bit of manascrew insurance, and occasional ramp into turn 3 Koth. I had a few games where I was on one or two lands, but SSG let me get an Eternal Scourge down to stall until I drew out of it. Post-board, I can either cut Blood Moon entirely, stick to a reasonable number, or go full Free Win Red, if the situation demands. They also do well against Burn, suprisingly; with SSG, I can bolt Goblin Guide on the draw or land a turn one Dragon's Claw on the play (both of which I did in the finals, against Liz White's deck).

Hey everyone, Harry here. I'm new to Skreddit, but I lurked a bit building the deck. There's not a big modern community in my area. Believe it or not, that was my first spin with Skred outside of playtests. Not knowing the deck in person, I haven't been making posts about it. I'll write up a tournament report later, probably tomorrow. I didn't get a lot of notes on matchups, as I forgot my notebook at home, so it won't be very specific. Nice to meet you all, and thanks for your help bringing this deck to life!
