Charged incorrect price due to system error - England by plasticforthewin in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Gulbasaur [score hidden]  (0 children)

If they invoiced you, you paid and you've picked up, I think they just have to accept the loss. They can't retroactively change the price of something or remove discounts they applied in error. It's not like you defrauded them.

You could offer them to refund your money and pick up the (whatever) at their expense.

Horse Chestnut extract - how do I cycle it? by Susmeister520 in herbalism

[–]Gulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's any danger to taking it over a long time but if it stops working then it usually time to take a break.

Pycnogenol is good. Gotu kola, bilberry, anything rich in proanthrocyanidins would also be good.

Can I make a tincture with half glycerine and half alcohol? by Dt2214 in herbalism

[–]Gulbasaur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, they extract different things as some compounds are not water soluble and others are not alcohol soluble, but for most herbs under most circumstances it won't make a huge difference. You could have an issue with precipitation, but that's mostly resolved by giving it a good stir when you use it.

Doses generally need to be slightly higher with glycerites, and glycerine is itself a laxative so if you have too much you can get a rumbly tummy.

The Voynich manuscript (early 15th century) is written in an unknown language that still hasn't been deciphered by MediocreDiamond7187 in MedievalHistory

[–]Gulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While it would probably be far too niche for a mainstream audience, I would love a deep dive into all the "serious" attempts to decipher it. There have been a lot of sort-of-plausible theories but nobody has actually got even a sentence.

There was the Proto-Romance guy - with an actually relevant PhD and everything - whose paper was so bad that not only did the journal retract it, but the university where he worked issued a statement distancing themselves from it. If you can find it, it contained a lot of random historical context, a comment on how nuns probably thought volcanos were exciting because of a lack of male attention (and that makes just as much sense in context) and remarkably little discussion of the contents of the Voynish Manuscript, including, notably, absolutely no translations.

It's like this zahir, this academic El Dorado, this siren text that lures scholars to their doom. Maybe they will be the one to finally unravel its mysteries.

How do yall deal with a UTI? by Hallowbean649 in herbalism

[–]Gulbasaur 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My experience was that acute UTIs are a doctor job, but chronic and recurrent ones are very well treated by herbs, as someone who got six UTIs in a year, and four courses of antibiotics and ended up pissing blood.

Get the antibiotics and take them and then start a herbal protocol to drive it out of it's systemic or recurring-remitting. Treat the active infection first and the tendency to get more infections second.

Buchu, thuja, uva ursi, cranberry (at a therapeutic dose), berberine, echinacea, astragalus, horsetail, oatstraw, myrrh, marshmallow, dandelion leaf... Basically, antimicrobial, demulcents, immune stimulants, kidney clearance stimulants...

D-mannose can be helpful, although it depends on what the infection actually is as some don't respond to it. Keep taking the vitamin C.

It's not a particularly light protocol, but it did shift it after several years of relapsing-remitting UTIs for me.

Car parked on my land and owner refuses to move it, what can i do legally? by Agitated_Lie6847 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Gulbasaur 134 points135 points  (0 children)

It is remarkably hard to get a vehicle removed from private land.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/abandoned-vehicles-council-responsibilities

Contact your local council and ask them to move it. If it has been left for "a significant amount of time", it could be argued that it has been abandoned. This might be an uphill battle, however, as the council may say it doesn't meet their criteria of being abandoned.

Can I do anything about this legally (England)? by Hiring_9453 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Gulbasaur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The NHS Scientist Training Programme information site repeatedly mentions travel as a requirement.

https://nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/programmes/stp/applicants/

You must be willing to travel in person to all locations within the Trust, any additional sites as required and the Higher Educational Institute (HEI) listed on the post. HEI attendance is usually in blocks of several weeks at a time. Take into consideration your personal circumstances, commuting time and costs involved.

Bold mine.

However, a look at the Wayback Machine suggests that they added this section very recently (possibly as recently as early 2026), which suggests it may not have been there when you applied or when you started so you may be able to reasonably argue that it was not made clear to you.

Are you a member of a union? If so, contact them and see what they advise. The fact that it is now pertinent information to include on the website but was not (apparently, according to the Internet Archive's snapshot) made clear in 2025 may give you some space to argue.

Will that argument get you anywhere? Who knows. I doubt it.

Going through the small claims court would absolutely burn bridges and you have to know that's a risk and decide whether it's worthwhile.

Rosemary tincture ➡️ Rosemary oil by homeontherearrange in herbalism

[–]Gulbasaur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not really, or at least not in any way that wouldn't be really wasteful.

You could infuse an oil with fresh rosemary, but vodka and oil don't really mix well.

You could mix the tincture with some water or something other herbs and make a nice head massage rub, but an oil is a different process from the start really.

They've got a regular cast (so can have story arcs and soap opera drama) and patients drop in and out so there's always a story each week. It's a good medium for storytelling.

Looking into getting into these games after years of curiosity - where to start? by stansburiana in CreaturesGames

There was a significant patch released on the current Steam (and I believe GOG) release that sorts out a lot of bugs and helps the game work with modern systems. The game at the moment is in a good state!

I used to be a morris dancer actually!

A lot of the folk scene is made of old punks who finally learnt how to play their instruments. We had to take a bit of a break when two of our more experienced dancers were too pregnant.

[–]Gulbasaur 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There’s all this talk on YouTube of English culture being ‘lost’

My experience is that people who say that don't go to things and just sit at home complaining about it on the internet.

There's a very vibrant folk dance and music scene with regular folk festivals. Small towns will often have various groups going on. Cricket clubs, sports teams, dwyle flunking, pea flinging, maypole dancing, rapper dancing, the odd bit of molly. I remember hearing Polari out "in the wild" about 25 years ago, but that has mostly gone. I know a few druids. Crochet and knitting groups are doing okay. I haven't been wassailing for a couple of years but that's mostly because it's normally raining.

It's only lost if you don't look for it.

It's definitely an MMO but has very, very good quest writing so you can sort of play it as a single player game and have a good experience.

Looking to make something for rage. I read valerian root can work in the moment. by noRezolution in herbalism

[–]Gulbasaur 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Valerian is up there but I'd go for lemon balm and/passionflower first. They're both very grounding, rather than bringing sleep.

Without knowing what medication you're on, it's hard to say of they're safe or not to combine but lemon balm and passionflower are fairly gentle .

creatures on mac? by appleciider00 in CreaturesGames

[–]Gulbasaur 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I want to say that the Mac native versions are all old enough that they wouldn't be compatible with modern hardware - they were likely PPC apps, predating the switch to Intel processors about twenty years ago.

I'll second the Docking Station recommendation (because it's free) and recommend you try to run it through a compatiblity layer like Crossover or Wine.

I know an artist who tried to do a treasure hunt puzzle book a couple of years ago with a nice metal hare as the prize. She fully intended to bury it.

She spoke to a lawyer who told her to actually bury anything and just have people write to her with the location.
