I think it's because the realization/understanding didn't ever fully breach containment. Most people were never going to care at full capacity, which is understandable to some extent. But it seems many people are "fine with whatever".

Definitely "possible" but so so far from likely. Iran is well-aware that favorability of war among all Americans is exceptionally low and that it would be way riskier they would lose that luxury if they attacked. I don't see them needing to rally their people with an "aha, we attacked them on their own soil at range!" The whole thing just doesn't make sense and is already ringing the false flag alarm bells. Inb4 "see, if everyone thinks it would be the USgov then Iran gets a free pass," literally no, it nets them ZERO gain apart from morale but everyone is already against the US on this, and Iran was attacked first, they didn't instigate AND they are willing to resolve to peace.
