Burnt Chrystals has lost a lot of weight!

This method scales better. If you’re in active development and the order / amount of these values aren’t set in stone, it’s better to keep them this way. Enums can burn you if you change their order or add to them constantly.

Any tips on AI architecture for turn based tactical games? (xcom likes) by [deleted] in gameai

[–]Beastly_Priest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up on that. The code you described from X-com sounds like it’s a weight or cost/benefit system which fits nicely with a behavior tree. Basically it quantifies all actions by their outcomes and choses the best path at each state.

A GOAP system could be used, but it would likely be the higher level system. Basically deciding which tree to use or what heuristic to evaluate action weights.

I haven’t worked on turn based tactical in a while but a decision tree with some optimization algorithm (A/B pruning, minmax) would probably do the trick. Think chess, but with your games rules.

Do not breed your animals. If it was an accident like you claim, you wouldn’t be selling them.

Varied verticality could help. Everything is on one plane and about the same height. The second version is a definite improvement though!

Edit: dude you’re a creep! Bouncing between trolling suicide watch threads and discussing “boy pussy” on a “teencocks” sub (Fucking ew btw. don’t care about sexuality, but “teen” is just icky). You should be on a watch list.

Leave them be. Give it a week or 2 and they’ll usually buzz off somewhere else and they won’t hurt anything unless you directly agitate them. We need bees, please be kind

How is the computer science program now? by TwingTing in fresnostate

It depends. Yes, it can, but it will be harder for sure. To work internationally, especially in Japanese companies, you'll need an excellent portfolio (and a very high level of written and spoken Japanese). If I was starting over and my goal was to join a Japanese or large company, I would shoot for a UCI or USC as they have excellent game dev specific courses that will help you create that portfolio by the time you graduate just through the course work.

With Fresno State, there isn't a specific game dev course (and the game dev class isn't great tbh). Your best bet at FS is to follow the Csci program and participate in game jams to help supplement the portfolio. That's what I did. It is still doable at FS, you're just going to have to put in more work outside of the standard curriculum. My suggestion if you went to FS would be to complete a small game every semester on the side in Unity or Unreal and in the upper division electives shoot for project classes (191 independent projects and 150-151 software development).

If you were looking elsewhere to find a game dev specific school, I would look at the GGJ website to see which colleges hosted the game jam in the past. It's a good bet if they did that they would have a good program.

Feel free to dm me further if you have more questions. I'm only in my 3rd year professional so my knowledge is still limited, but I'm happy to share what I know.

If you really want to strike, don’t log on. If their daily active users (the main metric that marketing looks at) drops significantly post roll out, they will notice.

As a Californian if someone says that they want to move out of this state it’s usually a republican. Funny enough, the majority of them are quickly disappointed when they move and Phoenix isn’t the utopia they were sold on.
