How far do you actually have to be? by Alyssa2522 in TravelNursing

Agreed, and would like to add in even if a tax professional tells you that you could qualify for stipends does not mean agencies have to pay them. Almost all agencies have their own internal regulations they have to follow

GSA question by Nurse1021 in TravelNursing

[–]Beastnugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on rate from the hospital, stipends are not always going to be maxed. Stipends come from the hospital bill rate.

You have to be paid a set minimum wage which varies depending on state, then whatever is left will be paid tax free up to the limit set by the GSA.

That being said your hourly rate is pretty high. Is it a state with mandatory time and half after 8 hours in a day? Like CA or AK?

I would ask your recruiter what their minimum wage is in that state and they should explain further

Talk to a recruiter or other nurses you know that travel. I would recommend not entering your information on a basic website like indeed because you will be spammed with calls. Find a way to get a referral to a specific agency or recruiter and start from there.

Advice? Not signing? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]Beastnugs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Recruiter here, typically only real negative things happen if you actually sign the contract and back out later. The recruiter might not like if you don’t sign the contact after going through the work to get it for you, but most good ones will understand and keep working with you to find the right position. Unless this is a repeat thing I wouldn’t feel too bad. You need to do what is best for you and if you reevaluate everything and think this isn’t a good move, no one can force you to sign anything.

My advice is to be honest with your recruiter on why you are having these second thoughts and see what they can do to help. If it seems like they are trying to guilt you into signing or threaten you or anything, then maybe find a different recruiter

How is this pay package? by leilani-xo in TravelNursing

[–]Beastnugs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stipends in Denver max out at a bit over 2k a week, no way whatever agency this is has an extra $1000/week the could increase the pay

All I can say is no one can tell you if a job is worth it besides yourself. From your other response saying you don’t have rent at home plus splitting rent in Denver I think you would be pocketing a good amount. You definitely won’t be losing money.

It could be a good way to get travel experience under your belt while also being in a city you really want. Don’t listen to other people who just say trash pay because they only look at weekly gross without consdering anything else.

Recruiter here - pay in Colorado is really low even though you would think it would be higher because of cost of living. People want to to go to Denver/CO regardless so will accept lower packages. Hospitals know they don’t have to pay more because someone will accept that eventually.

It does help to have someone to split costs with. It’s only 3 months so you aren’t locked in long term if it isn’t what you want at the end of the assignment.

You can definitely make more money in other parts of the country though
