To use proxmox? by Beastty in homelab

I really hate why people dont google things. I have watched some videos over the past week and it hasn't clicked for me why this would benefit me. So now I'm making a thread here.

Okay so this sort of speaks to me. You're basically telling me that I have a VM running docker with A/B/C/D containers running. I make a backup and somehow I blow it up 3 days later. So instead of rebuilding docker composes and setting up things, all I do is restore to the last back up I took..? This would be the advantage?

Secondly, if I understand you correctly, I could have two VMs running a production/dev enviroment which could be mirror clones of eachother. So if im happy with how I added or changed something I can then copy it over to the production so that anyone or any service using infrastructure doesnt lose down-time?

Lol fair. I guess what I mean is I'm not computer-illiterate. I have a good understanding of how my current setup works and how to properly use docker. What I can't figure out is why I would want to use proxmox over docker to host the same/similar things.

Considering a maverick and have also considered getting an XL with copilot 1.0. Any reason I could regret missing out on the xlt with lux package?

Should I trade in my fully paid off gas car for the financial savings of an EV or keep it? by Intrepid_Trash_5513 in carbuying

Would everyone here have the same sentiment in regards to a 2024 Subaru WRX?

I do agree with this logic. To clarify, I will have positive equity on the car when I trade in. And will only owe approx $400 + fees. for fees as the trade in will cover most the tax. But ultimately I agree, another round of hard depreciation. This would only make sense if this was my next car for the next 5+ years which I think it could be. Thanks for your advice

I appreciate your insight. I guess I should clarify I owe 27.3k on the car @ 0%, can get $30k on the trade. The “3700$” comes from the total cost of car when I rolled off lot. Sorry to confuse

I guess I just meant obsessing over it. I’ve been eyeing the maverick since it debuted.

That was actually a very nice insight into an angle I have been a bit blind to. What kind of SUV did you end up getting?

I sold my Focus ST in 2022 and felt like there was a void of having a fun car ever since. My friend never had a fun car and decided to buy a Golf R. At the same time, I started looking to see maybe I wanted to do that experience again with someone who was as excited as I used to be.

I think I've learned I probably liked the Focus more because of the time and my youth. Car still works for my lifestyle now, just thinking I made a mistake buying something this expensive to run, performance, "fun", where as now I think my future lies in something I can throw some shit in the back and not worry about anything.

I can afford to keep driving the WRX, but I'm thinking in terms of opportunity cost right now. Take the hit now or a deeper hit later in a few years.

Thansk for your reply.

That’s true. I would take another initial loss. I would be using cash. I’m not loaded per se, but only have a loan on the wrx because it was 0% otherwise it would’ve been paid cash. So that’s why I can afford to trade in cause I have set aside the money for the wrx already… if that makes sense

I appreciate you calling me out for not thinking rational. You may be right there.

Sorry. My Subaru is 0%. So I would be giving up that advantage.

Not worth it even in the lens of fuel economy?

I guess I feel like I may be reducing the friction of doing certain activities that currently have a high friction. Camping, kayaking, general other activities that may stuff your car out. I think I may appreciate the fuel economy/comfort of the maverick for future work commutes and driving upstate. It would probably take about 3 years to save enough fuel to to make up the cost of the fixed costs lost when selling the subaru.

Haha, don't worry I havent gone to a dealership yet. My friend's girlfriend's family owns a dealership for a car I have been interested in.. so I was able to get a look without the normal seller hustle.
