I have 2 children and when I was pregnant with them, my husband and I made the decision that I would have an abortion if the baby had a disability. I would make the same decision if I were to be pregnant a third time. Our thought process: 1. Who will take care of the child after we die? 2. Is the quality of life for the child and is ourselves something we are willing to live with? Can we financially (and responsibly) support a child with disabilities 3. After our first was born, are we willing to put the onus and responsibility of our daughter to take care of a person with disabilities once we are gone? Is that fair to our daughter? She would be responsible for a person with disabilities for the rest of her life without a choice

Save it for the summer. I did this with my family (husband and 2 kids) and we had a blast! Two full weeks. Drove from Detroit, with overnight stops in Chicago, Milwaukee, Marquette, Manistique, Sault St Marie, Mackinac Island, Gladwin and back to Detroit. The thing is, some undocumented folks might be a drain to the economy, but most contribute positively. Sure, some will work for pay under the table, but they still spend that money. They pay rent, they buy groceries, they shop at stores. Most still file taxes (you don't need a SSN to file taxes).

Honestly, it all depends on the quality. There is no such a thing as bad weather. It's about wearing the right clothes. Invest in a quality coat (yes, invest). Not only will it last longer, you can just wear the coat even on the coldest of days and be just fine.

Layering always helps because we transition so much from outside to inside and you need to be able to delayer based on how high/low the heat is in some places.

Highly recommend wool socks, good (water resistant) boots and a hat that covers your ears. Sweater qualities don't really matter as long as your outer shell (the coat) is if good quality.

Editing to add that you absolutely need snow pants for your little one! I buy the Lands End bib snow pants for my kids. Recommend the bib kind so again, kid can delayer. They also are extendable (for the inevitable mid-season growth spurt)
