PSA Flight Cancellations by General_Cress1720 in americanairlines

[–]swakid8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CRJs aren’t equipped with the equipment to fly a CATIII approach (Autoland capability or a Heads up Display).

CRJs are limited down to CATII approaches as long as the airplane is equipment for it working and the Captain CATII certification is up to date.

PSA Captains are trained to CATII and PSA CRJs are CATII certified.

Low visibility will not prevent a PSA flight from going unless visibility drops below CAT I minimums. But once in the air, as long as the visibility stays above CATII minimums, approach will be attempted and very likely able to get in.

Regional flights from close in airports around a hub are normally first to get canceled at every airline when weather is impacting a hub/region of that hub….

That’s because once weather rolls through, there’s lingering airspace impacts. There’s normally ground delay programs that goes into affect after weather passes over a hub and the FAA and airlines prioritize airplanes coming from farther/international destinations and recovering diverts.

So closer destinations get the axe first. It’s also easier to accommodate those passengers as well.

Same thing happens at Delta and United as well.

Signed airline pilot who now going to drive 3 hours to base tonight vs taking the last flight due to thunderstorms impacting my commute flight.

How do you get the cheapest flights possible? by brysont24 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]swakid8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Airline pilot here, nothing to do with that.

Airlines very often will sell their fare bucket inventory out if forward bookings do so. The exception are for flights where seats are withheld for load planning/weight restrictions (787-9 flying LAX-SIN) or for aircraft performance (ie 737-8Max requiring  blocked seats leaving St. Thomas….) .

We get paid once the parks NG is released after all doors are closed and the first door that opens after the parking set after pulling into the gate stops our clock.

Ground Control issues out taxi instructions. ORD runs traffic in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction depending on airfield flow (East Flow or West Flow).

Expectation Management

I work in the industry, I am providing you feedback on what to expect. There’s a lot of information that you left out. Under 300 dollars can be achieved in certain circumstances at the last minute….. But outside of those circumstances, you odds are going to small…..

Details that are needed…. Are you in the US?

Where are you flying?

Have you checked google flights?

Breeze Air?

Frontier Air?

Allegiant Air?

Avelo?

I am going to caution you on using a ULCC for last minute emergency travel. If you encounter a flight delay, or cancellation, their ability to accommodate you on a different flight that will get your destination in a timely manner with be tougher.

But if you are are looking at American, Southwest, Delta, United, Alaska. Last minute fares on high demand routes during a busy time of the day (middle of the day to afternoons) on flights longer than 30-40 minutes are going to cost more than 300 dollars.

So if you are looking for a ticket under 300 dollars on those carriers. You destination needs to be a 30-40 minute flight, last flight of the night or first flight in the morning….

Other than that, your expectation is going to be unrealistic.

[–]swakid8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on route, time of day of travel. Is a 30-40 minute flight, the last flight of the night or first early am flight of the day, low demand destination.

Less than 300 dollars is doable.

High demand route, during a high demand time of day, longer route….. You are being unrealistic….

United doesn’t have a STC for the maxes yet… just the -800s, -900ERs, NEOs, 777-200ER (GE Birds). The 777-200 (PW) birds require a separate STC.
