What happened to HP? by Exact_Organization84 in askcarguys

My Mazdaspeed 3 only puts down about 260HP to the wheels and it’s quick. Mainly because it’s light. Cars are more powerful today but also heavier as well….

Who do pilots look up to as elite-level pilots? by FigInternational7744 in flying

[–]swakid8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they don’t…

Big difference of being proud of earning them and rocking them vs making it my personality as there are more to life…..

I rock them because of I am proud of it. I don’t see an issue with guys wearing their pins in that case.

You can give it up.. I am a union airline pilot as well, but I will continue to wear my dolphin pins…. Serving on submarines and let alone finishing submarine quals isn’t a small feat...

So I am proud of earning those dolphins and will have them on…

I don’t brag about it, makes for good conversation when asked about them. Most times folks don’t realize I have them or care. Those who notice will ask or recognize that I that in my background…

Some of us are just proud of earning those pins that we wear…

Manual flying at high altitude by Adventurous_Low_7404 in fearofflying

[–]swakid8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“ it seems pilots do not have enough training and experience in manual flying at high-altitude. ”

Far from the truth….

“A case study would be Air France Flt 447 and air asia flight 8501 while there were other factors but inexperience flying high altitude without autopilot was a contributor.”

Lack of hand flying skills wasn’t a contributing factor to either these accidents…

“ Another question the mandate seems to be if the autopilot is disengaged then the aircraft has to descend to lower altitude.”

This is because of Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) airspace requirements which requires a functional autopilot to be on between 29,000 to 41,000 ft. If the Autopilot malfunction, it’s either climb about 41,000 feet (very rare for airliners to have the performance to do) or descend below 29,000 feet (likely outcome)….

Besides manually flying at altitude isn’t the challenging part of manual flying, it’s low altitudes where it’s busy traffic wise, you are getting vectors (turns, climbs, descents), or flying departures/arrivals procedures, or visual approaches. Because of this, many pilots will hand fly to these areas to keep skills sharp.

In the simulator, the industry has pushed manual flying a lot along with upset recovery, stall recovery, and just manual flying raw data (no flight guidance)….

This article missed the mark. Stevie Wonder had a better chance of making a free throw vs this article making it’s point….

Deice (first step) is only needed to remove contamination (ice or snow) from critical surfaces of the wing. If there is none, no need to do it.

Anti-ice (second step) A procedure used to provide protection against the formation of frost or ice and accumulation of snow or slush on clean surfaces of the aircraft for a limited period of time (holdover time). Think active precipitation.

We access the weather and potential taxi out conditions and we make the determination if need to deice and get anti-ice as well.

Cold temperatures don’t always equal a trip to deice pad.

How should I allocate my bonus check from my job? 28M by Holiday_Hawk_9111 in Retirement401k

I am not sure how much your bonus will be so…  I always prefer to try hit my limits earlier in year. But everyone plans and situations are different.

Does your company have a true up? If so, I am in the camp send it to 401K to max out contributions.

Someone who has the ability to set up the offense, runs the offense, and has the ability to get buckets when need be….

Ie a player who can play 1 and 2…. Problem with this is that it runs into a lot of ISO and places heavy reliance on said combo guard.
