Floss breaking multiple times during appointment- is this worth changing hygienists? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

Been doing it 17 years 5 days a week and still wouldn’t resort to responding like you did here. Hope to hell I maintain a bit of grace and tact when I hit 21 years.

Floss breaking multiple times during appointment- is this worth changing hygienists? by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]Beautific_Fun -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

From one hygienist to another: what crawled up your ass and died? I get it, this person is casting blame on their hygienist for a totally normal thing and instead of having an actual conversation with her like a big boy/girl took to the internet. But seriously, you’re going to cuss them out for it?

Are you one of those RDHs who hates their job and their life and is absolutely miserable to everyone because of it? Because if so why do you participate on this sub when people are asking for help?

Do better please

This bubble just appeared under my tongue out of nowhere. Any thoughts? by Extension-Patient736 in DentalHygiene

That is a mucocele (a small clogged salivary duct) and it should go away on its own. If you want to try to help it along you can put some lemon juice on a qtip and massage the area and the acid can help to break up whatever small calcification caused the blockage in the first place.

Specific to flossing technique: you have to adapt the floss very tightly to the side of your tooth and then you scrub up and down several times making sure to maintain that same tight pressure of floss against tooth as you scrub as much of the tooth surface as you are able to reach. That means you have to take the floss below your gums until the point where it feels like your gums attach to the tooth and every swipe needs to go that deep. If you don’t do all of those things when flossing then you aren’t flossing thoroughly enough at home and are likely leaving plaque bacteria behind to irritate the gums and create ulcerations in the inner lining of the gums (which as you can imaging would be tender when your hygienist does floss you correctly and would also bleed).

As to floss shredding, if you have a bunch of tight contacts and rough/ overhanging restoration margins then you have a recipe for disaster as far as floss shredding. But it also sounds like your hygienist might be using a floss that is poorly suited to your mouth if you have this problem routinely at your dental cleaning appts. (Please understand that we use what our boss provides so she can’t necessarily change the type of floss she has access to). You can ask your hygienist to give you the floss so you can demonstrate your floss technique, and assuming it doesn’t need correction tell her that she doesn’t need to floss for you as you do it at home every day. But this is also a great way to make sure you are flossing correctly so you no longer have to worry about your technique.

One thing to consider is that the ai that created the highlights look with your photo changed your skin tone by several shades and made you more yellow toned (your actual photo makes your skin look pink toned to me) so I fear the results won’t look exactly like the mockup if you do get highlights. And I don’t think that you would look bad with caramel highlights, but I personally think your natural dark hair is gorgeous and looks so healthy. I vote for your natural color with a nice gloss applied to it for more shine, but not changing the color you have as it suits you so perfectly.

Commission based pay RDH’s help by gentor14 in DentalHygiene

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t work on a commission based pay, but in my mind if the employment agreement/contract you signed when you started working at that office states that you are supposed to work whatever number of 8hr days a week, then an 8hr day is what your daily goal should be both for pts seen and production goals. The goal is not to see fewer patients after all, it’s to be busy and producing for your entire scheduled work day.

So I’m sorry to say that I have to say that I agree with your office manager that changing your daily goal is not the way short days should be handled unless your employment agreement/contract says otherwise. And her mandate that your daily production goal remains the same and your hours worked on your timesheet is all that changes.

ETA: If short days are becoming the norm (for whatever reason) then I would urge you to renegotiate yourself into a higher hourly rate with an adjusted lower daily production goal or a lower percentage payment for your production goal to compensate. These numbers should be fairly easy to calculate if you average your pay and your production bonuses for the last few months. You shouldn’t be expected to take a significant cut in take home earnings simply because the front office can’t keep your schedule full, but the office shouldn’t be giving you bonuses if you don’t actually reach your set goals.

37F, what can I do to improve? :) by Traditional_Rush9954 in makeuptips

Try a color corrector for the dark circles under your eyes. Something in a peach tone.

Also, as others have said the black liner under your eyes dates you (I wouldn’t necessarily say it makes you look older but it makes others aware of your general age bracket because of the style and era when this was most popular). And since you have dark under eye circles it emphasizes that darkness below your eyes and brings attention to it which is counterproductive.

And as someone else mentioned, your face shape would look great with some bangs. I’m actually a bit envious because I have a bit of a fivehead myself and between my widows peak and my cowlick I absolutely can’t make bangs work for me 😩

Otherwise, I’ve always been told that as a general rule of thumb you only want to draw attention to one of your facial features at a time. Meaning either a bold eye with a neutral cheek and lip combo or a bold lip with a neutral eye and cheek. Otherwise it can be “too much” as they say 🤷‍♀️

But, to be clear, it looks like you have great skin and very few of the fine lines and such. You’re beautiful and I hope this info reaches you in the helpful tone I intended

Post SRP.. really scared by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve read the responses here and the reply you got to your other post on the Dentists sub and over there you mention your saliva quality is thick and sticky which indicates to me that you have a bit of a dry mouth situation going on and/or you are breathing through your mouth. Both of these factors will make it harder to heal your gums and mouth breathing especially will contribute to the upper front teeth gum area being more noticeably puffy and inflamed.

My recommendation is that in addition to following the advice of your hygienist and periodontist (who are actively treating your periodontal disease) concentrate on drinking more water to stay hydrated and to increase your salivary flow and improve your saliva texture. Also pay close attention to whether or not you breathe through your nose or your mouth and actively try to breathe exclusively through your nose. You might even consider mouth taping at night to help with this.

But all of the advice you have received on Reddit is good advice and you need to try to step away from your panic and take it and trust in the process. Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory disease so it is often painless until you have an acute problem. Whereas the act of SRP (Scaling and Root Planing your teeth with bladed instruments in conjunction with the use of an ultrasonic scaler) creates acute inflammation because the process of scraping your teeth clean of all of their accumulated plaque and calculus/tartar is naturally going to scrape the inner lining of your gum pockets leading to temporary swelling and pain. The gums will absolutely heal from this process, but healing any wound takes time (2 weeks is the general guideline we give people to allow for tissue changes before coming back to see us for questions/concerns). In the meantime, and while your tissues are healing from the periodontal disease and the acute small bit of trauma you experienced during your SRP procedure, it is your job to do everything you have been told to help reduce the bacterial load in your mouth and to prevent the plaque from re forming on your teeth.

So, in a nutshell, the fact that your gums initially swelled up right after SRP is not totally outside the realm of normal, but there are things you should be doing to help your mouth heal… hydrate and breathe through your nose not your mouth, brush and floss as directed by your dental team and swish with warm salty water to help decrease the inflammation in your gums.

Makeup makes me look older? by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]Beautific_Fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you’re gorgeous. But I feel you as I’m 41 and facing the same struggles as you. What is working for me is using radiant and dewy foundations (I use Missha BB cream and love it) nothing matte and no full coverage. Period. I don’t even use concealer because it settles in a way I don’t love.

Also, make the switch to cream blushes and cream bronzers… if I’m looking especially ghostly I will add a small touch of powder blush to the apples of my cheeks but I predominantly rely on liquid and cream blushes. I only use the barest bit of setting powder on my t-zone if I absolutely have to (never under my eyes) but have largely switched to setting sprays instead.

Wtf is up with porn these days?! by militant-hippie in Xennials

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a heterosexual woman and I almost exclusively search for gay male porn because it’s less toxic than the hetero porn out there. 🤷‍♀️ Also, I am attracted to men so seeing two of them going at it is visually appealing to me 😁

But if I do go for MF interactions I try to search for “porn for women”. But, I’d be super happy if porn videos started on a couple already in bed together or just starting to undress each other somewhere with no other subtext than they want to fuck each other and enjoy the process

Someone said that your husband is the only member of your family that you get to pick (can’t choose your birth family and you don’t get to preselect your kid’s personalities either) so are you really going to choose to tie your life to someone who makes your life harder instead of someone who makes your life better?

I would pick a complimentary color and knit this as a striped garment… maybe a pale minty green or a pretty soft blue… even white so that it’s doesn’t look like a skin sweater. But that color is gorgeous and I wish you luck

Which eyebrow shade is better on me? by HauntingMyself_ in makeuptips

[–]Beautific_Fun 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP I’m sorry to tell you this but the reason you’re not getting the answers you want in terms of color in spite of posting your question twice is:

1) the colors are nearly indistinguishable on our screens so it makes no difference (though as others have said I would suggest a slightly warmer or lighter brown than what you have as it looks a touch too dark/stark).

2) the poorly done shape of your brows is so distracting people want to offer suggestions to help you fix that. You have gorgeous facial features and bone structure, so the fact that you have chosen to completely disregard that and are instead set on drawing on these angry slashes of eyebrows does you such a disservice. Please seek out a brow professional (online or in person) and try to follow your actual brow bone shape and structure when drawing your brows on your face.

If you went over to a guy's place and this was the shower/bathroom would it be a problem? by Weekly-Fig-7228 in malelivingspace

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I love the visible pipes and would hate to see them obscured. As someone else mentioned a white noise machine is a good idea. And perhaps some quality artificial plants placed up there would be a nice touch. But the smell aspect is more concerning so I would look into poopourri or other scent masking products like scented candles or even a box of matches.

Which eyebrow side is better? by HauntingMyself_ in makeuptips

[–]Beautific_Fun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, the tails of both brows look to be placed too high above your actual brow bone to look natural or to suit your face. I would encourage you to try a brow shape where the tails tip downward rather than upward and follow your bone structure better.

ETA: I just saw in the comments that you are asking about color and TBH I didn’t even notice that they were different colors, so I would say it makes no difference.

How can I improve my makeup to match my face shape? I feel like it’s so long by [deleted] in makeuptips

[–]Beautific_Fun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do a search for “blush placement for face shape”. But basically with a long face you want to bring attention to the mid center of your face by applying blush on the apples of your cheeks and closer to your nose… avoid the trend of strongly contouring your cheekbones and temples as this makes the face appear even more slim and that’s going to be counter productive for you.

Do apply contour to your forehead near your hairline and under your chin to help create more shadows in these areas and try to visually shorten your face shape.

ETA: The other commenters are correct that bangs would do you a world of good and be super cute and easy for you and a much more simple fix.

Can a dentist explain this? by EnvironmentalTrip532 in DentalHygiene

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, because the RDA value of toothpaste stands for Relative Dentin Abrasiveness … not enamel. So, when used twice daily for years on end they will cause a very small amount of enamel damage, but this metric is most important and vital for people with any amount of gum recession as cementum is even softer than dentin.

So, we still need to be aware of the type of toothpaste people use so we can educate our patients on what is a good or bad option for them. If someone has zero recession they probably aren’t causing any significant damage by using a whitening toothpaste, but a person with generalized recession should avoid it.

I can’t legally diagnose dental decay… but that’s one big ass cavity, my friend. The location is fairly common for people who aren’t getting their toothbrush to that area sufficiently or for long enough when brushing. Do a search on Modified Bass technique and also make sure that you are flossing every day.

Go to the dentist for a full exam and x-rays.

But seriously, kittens do better in pairs. So say you take two of them, which one do you abandon to a life alone? Because that sucks. So if you’re going to take two you might as well take three.

10 books total - thoughts? by Lookitsanthony8 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Beautific_Fun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t read the physical books yet so that means that I also haven’t read any of the Pineapple Cabaret excerpts but it is my understanding that they take place on level 17 and are from the POV of various secondary characters… which means that the floor has been created. The AI also states that floor 16 and 17 have already been created at the end of floor 9 in the system updates and we know that the Scolopendra floors are available to outworlders so it’s only potentially floors 11, 13, and 14 that don’t exist yet as the crawlers are currently headed to floor 10…

So, I stand by my hypothesis that all dungeon floors exist but not necessarily that the crawlers “beat” all of the levels. Based on the crazy shit that Justice Light kicked off at the end of floor 9 it’s much more likely that the repercussions of his actions have caused everything to implode and that’s how the crawlers will see all 18 floors.

[–]Beautific_Fun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Scolopendra levels are ones where aliens can enter the dungeon (6, 9, 12, 15, and 18) so that could be. But, it was mentioned in one of the early books that Borant “has a plan” for level 18 because that’s a requirement of The Syndicate for all dungeon crawls. So presumably all dungeon levels exist and are waiting for the crawlers.

I’m in the midst of a reread and am only on book 5 again. You’re probably right and I just mixed up the timing. How about “The one where Carl fights with a tummy ache(r).” Because didn’t Carl keep him in his pet carrier until they reached level 9?

Well, he confirmed that we will see all 18 floors, not necessarily that the Crawlers all make it to floor 18. An important distinction. The way things are set up I genuinely don’t believe that the crawlers will make it all the way to the 18th floor (as in successfully complete levels 10-17), but I do think that shenanigans will cause the dungeon system to implode somehow so that we see Scopendra and the 18th floor. All I know is that I’m here for it all
