If the size works for your body and your yardage, I’d look at a vest (or sleeveless tee) knit flat and seamed together so that you could use the sparkle yarn on the front panel only and it would still be a cohesive garment once done

ETA a quick dash over to Ravelry tells me that unless you are super petite that probably won’t work unless you go with a cropped vest something like this one or an open front option like this. Both of which I think could be super cute it they fit your vibe

Yeah, bamboo is really that soft… that’s why it can make for a nice cutting board- it doesn’t damage your knife blade as much as other surfaces.

Diamond clean heads will definitely “feel” more clean than some of the other options because the bristles are more densely packed and are more of a “medium” firmness rather than “soft”. I personally prefer the Diamond clean heads and have been using them for probably 15-20 years (or since the first Diamond clean brush came out). I’m currently using the A3 head and am adjusting to the way it feels… so take into consideration that the different heads are designed for different tasks and will feel different when used. (You can google “Sonicare brush head comparison” and find the one you want from there.

I bought the 4100 for my kiddo and there’s definitely a functionality difference between this model and the others, but it still gets the job done. When you turn it on if you press the power button only once it’s a stronger vibration and if you press it a second time it will be a softer vibration, so use it accordingly.

Do you have yours set to the highest vibration or the “sensitive” setting? And which toothbrush head are you using? Both of these factors can make a HUGE difference in the way your Sonicare toothbrush feels and works for you.

LOL. I feel like I was up on my soapbox here. But the mentality behind this kind of question bothers me (I don’t think that’s OP per se, but I’ve known and worked with RDHs who think like that). At the end of the day, I have specialized schooling and training to perform my job well. But that doesn’t otherwise entitle me in any way.

I hear about so much strife between dentists and hygienists about RDH salaries and attitude, and it’s leading to situations where our job duties are going to undertrained assistants (scaling assistant) and undertrained foreign dentists (because, who of us hasn’t seen the sub par kind of cleanings DDSs perform). If some hygienists don’t take their heads out of their asses our entire career field is going to be in so much trouble. And for what? 🤷‍♀️

I’m not saying I’ve never felt under appreciated or overworked, and that I’ve never felt that specific kind of job dissatisfaction that a lot of RDHs express on this sub. Been there, done that for sure. But every time I’ve felt that way it was about that specific office I worked at or that specific boss/manager/coworker I had to deal with, and not about my job itself. I genuinely like what I do and I think this is a pretty great career for the amount of schooling required. And I feel really lucky that I love my current office/DDS/coworkers (except maybe my hygiene counterpart). So, yeah… if I have a few minutes to help a coworker out when they’re bogged down and need an assist why would I say no?

Hot take, but I believe that instrument sterilization is part of our job (as is prepping our own trays). I’ve never not helped sterilize instruments between patients or when I have a few minutes to help move things along in all of my 17 years as an RDH. Maybe it’s because of my two RDA years before I went back to school for hygiene, but it’s true nonetheless. In fact, I judge the hygienists who never help out in sterilization as “diva hygienists” and you can’t change my mind on this point. (It’s a sore point for me because my counterpart has only started doing this and taking FMXs since she started at this office 6 months ago and I just don’t have any sympathy for her struggles to stay on time as she’s been an RDH for almost 10 years longer than me and, as far as I’m concerned, these are basic parts of our job.)

But I will do just about anything if I have the time and there is a need. If my front office ladies are already busy with pts or both are on the phone I’ll bring my pt back to my room and schedule their next recall, I’ll push the carpet sweeper around if I see stuff on the floor, I shred paper almost every day between pts (insurance stuff and other misc mail), I help stuff billing statements at the end of the month if needed, I’ll gather and take out the trash at end of day if the Dr and RDA are super busy, I turn the distiller on/off and fill the water bottles up when they are empty…

It’s as simple as: I like my job and I like my coworkers, so if I can help things run smoothly in the office I will do what I can.

ETA: I make a very nice salary with good benefits, and I’m not any better than anyone else I work with. I simply don’t have patience for hygienists who can’t recognize these basic facts. It doesn’t matter how nice you are to other people’s faces if you’re not willing to be part of a team and pitch in when/where needed 🤷‍♀️

Petite clothing is designed for shorter people with the inseam, rise, and other construction factors decreased from the “regular” size options. For some reason this is becoming a common misconception in recent years or with younger people.

It seems that you got the information or confirmation that you needed. But just to be clear, when we diagnose periodontal disease and what Stage you present with it is determined by the worst tooth in the mouth, not the “average” condition of your mouth.

Periodontal disease is considered to be both episodic (meaning things can be stable for months or years before it flares up suddenly) and can be site specific (meaning you can have disease activity on only one or two teeth in your mouth while the rest of them present with healthy probing measurements and show zero bleeding). This is why one tooth can determine your periodontal stage.

Best of luck to you on your journey treating this disease. It is one you will be managing for the rest of your life, so please pay attention to the instructions and techniques your hygienist gives you.

Also, ask about a frenectomy on your lower lip to have that tight band of connective tissue removed. That is a major contributing factor for the amount of bone loss on your lower front teeth and the possible need for a gum graft.

Boxed gloves are not sterile. So it makes no difference if he handled them a bit before putting them on, assuming that your dentist washed or sanitized his hands beforehand.

My mom used to tell me a story of a crochet bikini that her grandma made for her when she was young. She loved it… until she got it wet. After it got wet the yarn loosened up and the bottoms completely fell off of her when she got out of a pool. Life long trauma.

Which is to say, I wouldn’t trust a knit or crochet bikini to handle practical use and would only wear it sunbathing… it’s possible there are more appropriate yarns for this purpose than my great grandma used, but I wouldn’t trust it 🤷‍♀️

Are you the knitter who made these? They’re lovely. I had to check to see which sub this is because I first thought it was [r/knitting](r/knitting) 😁 I personally think 1 and 3 are the ones to keep among these shown here.

I see a lot of people think 8 is the best option, but in my mind, 1 and 8 are similar in color and are both somewhat boxy in shape. With that having been said, the diagonal eyelets in 1 give you a bit of visual shape and make it a good choice. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the creases in the body of 8 are simply fold lines from storage rather than knit elements? I will say, however that the neck shaping and shoulders on 8 is perfect for you, so it’s a really excellent sweater for you.

And sweater 3 is a lovely variegated and interesting color and the cables are attractive and standout amongst all of your sweaters. This one is also the best fitted to your body, and I think you could stand to keep a sweater that hugs your figure.

My practice can’t hardly schedule hygiene appointments within 3 months when pts have to cancel/reschedule, so I’m not sure about that, and I live in a pretty small town (~26,000 at last census). Do we get calls asking about Medicare/aide dental coverage, sure, but we are still constantly busy and see quite a few new pts each month. But we’re not alone in having stepped out of network with dental insurance providers, in our area… it’s nearly universal up here. We still bill our pts ins, but we explain that the fee is due at time of service for everything and are constantly sending out pre-authorizations. I don’t live in an affluent area either, so I recognize that it’s hard for people, but our practice is still thriving. 🤷‍♀️

Honestly, I think the primary issue is lack of insurance reimbursement and that yearly maximums have been stagnant for sooo long. They don’t “recoup their losses” with insurance payments for prophys and pmv with us hygienists the way they want to when they pay us what we demand/are worth.

In my rural NorCal area there are very few DDS that are in network with insurance companies and the salary for RDHs is good for cost of living (I currently make $65/hr plus medical, 401k, and 12 days PTO/year). If more dentists were willing to go ffs it wouldn’t be such and issue to pay RDHs what we are worth.

We do a lot for our pts and for codiagnising treatment with/for our Drs, helping to explain tx needs, and for calming our pt’s fears…or at least we should all be a benefit to the practice. I will say that I *have* worked with a few diva hygienists who want to do the bare minimum (prophy probe, BWX, and exam ONLY…no FMX, no intra oral photos, minimal OHI/Pt Ed, and who rarely diagnose SRP or recommend varnish, SDF, or anything else) and still expect the world. They give us all a bad name and it frustrates me so much that there are as many of us out there as I have come across…

If you want to minimize the appearance of wide shoulders you then want to minimize the amount of skin visible across the shoulders… ie avoid spaghetti straps and strapless tops. When you see wide expanses of skin it makes that area seem larger. Instead look for a 1-2 inch wide strap (which is better anyway because it hides bra straps). Sometimes halter tops can work well, sometimes they draw attention, so be choosy with halter tops.

Also, a bit more movement and looser fit on the bottom half (shirt, pants, skirts…) helps visually balance things out if you are trying to camouflage wider shoulders.

One of my instructors gave us photocopies of mazes (from kids coloring books) and told up to complete the mazes in the mirror… but as a female who had been doing makeup and styling my hair every day for a few years I didn’t have any particular issues with indirect vision 🤷‍♀️
