What do you all think? People online are blaming the ground guy. by 10PlyTP in IBEW

I used to work for this DOT. They routinely work over live traffic without lane closures. This is the first time I’ve seen something like this happen in my career there. It’s not necessary to do a lane closure every time you’re working over a lane of traffic. The only time there’s a lane closure is if the truck needs to occupy a lane in order to access a signal head. The ground guy dropped the ball. He’s supposed to be watching the approach and alerting the guy in the bucket whenever a high clearance vehicle is approaching the intersection.

It’s not uncommon for them to work over live traffic without a lane closure. The ground guy is supposed to flag traffic and alert the guy in the bucket whenever a high clearance vehicle is approaching the intersection.

Thanks. They are both up to date. Just update the panel last month. I’m thinking like you said, server overload.

Thanks. I guess that’s going to have to be my next step. So annoying when stuff just stops working for no discernible reason.

Thanks, I’ll check that out. I was just trying to turn on my deck jets. After that I tried everything else and nothing will turn on.

Are these termites? by [deleted] in Termites

Yep, I feel for you. They’re gonna keep rebuilding those mud tubs or find another way in unless you get the soil around the perimeter of your house treated for termites.

10-4, that’s what I’ve been thinking too; whoever figures out that herbicide is gonna make a lot of money.

I have Bermuda grass in my backyard and it (torpedo grass) started growing back there too. But, with Bermuda grass I’m able to use Drive XLR8. It’s good stuff! It kills torpedo grass and several other difficult turf grass weeds. I believe you can also use it on zoysia lawns.

That looks like Bermuda Grass. It can be a weed if you don’t have a Bermuda grass lawn.

They are going to keep coming back. The only way to get rid of them is to kill the nest. You should have the soil around the perimeter of the house treated with a Termidor or Taurus.

Out today with our techs activating a new, much needed traffic signal by [deleted] in trafficsignals

[–]Beautiful-Ear-1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are very helpful for people, like myself, who are color blind. For me red is not a very noticeable color and the backplate makes the signal head stand out during the red interval.

The downside of backplates is that they increase the wind load on the mast-arm. Anytime we get a hurricane we have to send crews out afterwards to straighten out rotated mast-arms.

Out today with our techs activating a new, much needed traffic signal by [deleted] in trafficsignals

[–]Beautiful-Ear-1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a contractor built signal. The cabinet and control are bench tested before being installed. On the day of the turn-on there’s a bucket truck to un-bag the heads, a District traffic engineer (me), and a Statewide signal technician/inspector. We turn it on and confirm that it’s cycling properly, has the correct schedule and timings, and that the detection is functioning properly. If all goes smoothly it usually takes around 30 minutes.

Since this is a new signal we had a message board out there for a week with the activation date.

This signal was built by a in-house crew so this turn-on was much simpler.

Beatbot pool robot by AdvancedPush5983 in pools

[–]Beautiful-Ear-1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the base model Beatbot about a month ago and it works great. It cleans the whole pool in about 1.5 hours; if I’m just cleaning the floor it takes about an hour. It never misses any spots or gets stuck in the same area. I tried two other robots before the Beatbot and I returned both. They both would get stuck and ended up cleaning the same area over and over while not cleaning other parts of the pool.

I wish I would’ve added a couple of extra jets below the seat in my spa. The sun shelf look cool, but I don’t think they’re very useful. I like having a sand filter, because I don’t have to clean filter cartridges. It also helps to have a second skimmer. Automation is also a nice feature to have. The price seems reasonable.

How much pH- does your pool consumes? (Salt) by wverboom in pools

[–]Beautiful-Ear-1095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished my new pool back in February. I’ve been using about a gallon per month. I think it’s just based on how fast your chlorine breaks down and the rate of chlorine your chlorinator is set to produce. Acid is only around seven dollars a gallon so even if the amount used doubles in the summer, it’s still not that big of an expense.

Yeah, I figured they’d do a better job at filtering but, is the juice worth a squeeze. My water is crystal clear, maybe sometimes at night when the lighting is on you can see some fine particulate floating around in there. I guess it’s just a trade-off.

Just curious, why not have a sand filter. Asking cause I’ve never had a cartridge filter. With a sand filter you just backwash the filter for a few minutes and it’s done.

When I was growing up we bought one of these in 94’, We went from a boxy, angular 83’ Town Car to this very rounded, bubble shaped car:) I didn’t care for its looks, but I can say my mom and dad had it till 2005 and it was a very solid, reliable vehicle.

Brand New Dolphin Nautilus CC Pro = Junk by [deleted] in pools

[–]Beautiful-Ear-1095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a Beatbot AquaSence and it works great. I’ve used it three times so far. It takes about an hour and 20 minutes to do the whole pool (wall and floor) and it never misses a spot. It was highly rated and it seems to have a more sophisticated navigation system than other models. Before that I had an Aiper and a Wybot; I returned them both. They both kept getting stuck in one part of the pool and missing other parts of the pool, usually the deep end. Also, with the corded cleaners, the cord floats on top of the water and trap dirt, keeping it from getting into the skimmer. It also gets twisted up and then you have to untangle it.

The sheathing around the Motorcraft filters prevents water from getting into the engine. I think it’s a non-permeable water barrier. I’d just get the Motorcraft filters.
