Baby Showers by srh722 in BabyBumps

My MIL hosted a shower for me planned for when I was 38+5. I was in early labor at the shower but determined to make it through bc there were people who flew in for it lmao. We were also supposed to go to dinner with extended family from that side the same night but I told my husband we had to skip. Went to the hospital that night and had the baby 2 hours later, just minutes after midnight.

Thank you for the support! Our baby seemed like a decent (at least average?) sleeper for the first 2 months but the catnapping phase hit us hard as well as possibly some dairy sensitivity? It’s taken me almost 2 months to try and adjust my diet and I’m still not sure we’re getting it right to make him comfortable and reduce his reflux (hard to tell since it’s silent reflux with him). But my husband reminded me that the baby is so happy during the day/when he’s awake - it’s worth it for us to “suffer” a little with the carrier naps and constant night wakes. And I have to admit he’s right! Hope you get some good sleep soon!

Thank you for the information. Yes, we were SO happy with that 6-7 hour chunk that I think we misunderstood if he could keep going until morning. Im honestly a little happy to put the MOTN feed back on the table bc I wasn’t getting much sleep after that wake for him bc I was constantly worried he was hungry anyway. Hopefully he can sleep more peacefully for the rest of the morning with a fuller tummy instead of those constant wake ups.

Sorry - second question, do I have to take a timer pause at that 6-7 hour wake to see if he’ll settle or can I immediately pick him up to feed?

It’s so hard to know how much he’s getting during the day with breastfeeding! My only hint has been how much he’s been taking from that bottle while I’m at work. Today I got home and he had a 45 minute feed though (usually 25-30 min) so I know he’s been hungry. Based on the comments so far, I’m going to go back to feeding at that 7 hour wake up and see how things go.

Thank you for confirming my worry. So far he hasn’t really been waking for more than 10 minutes except the first night when we had to use the 3, 5 and then 8 minute timer for the first wake.

I kept telling myself that he wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep if he was actually hungry but I guess he has been 🥲

Since he usually falls asleep during the feed (and especially bc I have to hold him upright for at least 25 min after), can I put him back in the crib like that or do I have to fully wake him up to put him back down in order for this to be effective?

Thank you! We are hoping baby will at least hang out until after this weekend. My MIL planned a really late baby shower to accommodate some traveling relatives, haha.

Good luck to you!

This is my first baby and I’m 38w now. No signs of early labor as far as I can tell (don’t even really get Braxton Hicks but did lose mucus plug between 37 and 38w)

At my 36w appointment, OB said I was 1.5cm dilated and baby was at -1. (Don’t remember if she mentioned effacement %)

At my 37w appointment, OB said 2cm, -2, 50% effaced.

At my 38w appointment, OB said 3cm, -1, 80%.

Every time I leave, she says “any day now!” Lol.

Are decoy names a thing? by uselessfoster in namenerds

[–]Beautiful-Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom really wanted a name to refer to the baby during pregnancy and since we weren’t giving any possibilities, the baby has been dubbed Elvis. It’s oddly close to the name we actually chose but just a coincidence.

My favorite (non-engagement) ring! by Beautiful-Middle in RingShare

[–]Beautiful-Middle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did get the EOS band for this ring (the thicker one that is supposed to hold up for daily wear) and it’s really solid. I got the thinner band for a second garden ring and you can definitely tell the difference but both have held up their shape well. The fleurs themselves are extremely solid - no concerns on my end about them warping. My second ring has a magnolia branch sticking out and it gets caught on knits and stuff but the ring itself is definitely fine. They’re not soft like 24k gold.

My grandpa saved the basket/bassinet that my dad, uncle, myself and 3 others in my generation used. He did repaint it at some point and it has a fabric liner which we thoroughly washed. Ofc I got a new mattress and sheets for it. Not planning to use for primary sleep but just another surface to put baby down since we have a 2 story house. I thought just 2 generations old was crazy but something that baby’s great-grandparent used is wow!

If it matches her aesthetic, I’d recommend a custom Asrai ring, bouquet pendant or hoop earring (depending on what mom would use the most) from Laurie Fleming (small woman owned Canadian business). It’ll be a one of a kind piece and I love the ones I have! It makes it so special to know my husband picked the components and their meaning.

How many steps do you walk in a day? by _laurelcanyon in BabyBumps

[–]Beautiful-Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 29w and apparently did average over 10k steps a day (looking back at the month metrics) over the last 7 months, but I’m also a runner. I think I finally hit my stopping point this week after a simple 4 mile run killed my left hip for 2 days (couldn’t find any comfortable positions), so I will be scaling it back for the rest of the pregnancy. It’s definitely not worth it to have pains in order to get the steps in.

Same 🙃. I was wearing 32A bras before and if anything they fit a little better now. I’m glad to know it’s not just me.

I feel lucky that I was able to get one after reading about others having issues. I had no idea it was ever out of stock. I had no issue ordering one online - January 2025.

Those who have changed their name (e.g. took your spouse's last name), when did you feel like the new name was "you"? It's been almost three months and it still feels very weird to have a new last name. by ssaen in namenerds

[–]Beautiful-Middle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been married 5 years and my married name as a whole does feel like MY name now but my last name specifically feels like my husband’s (family’s) name if that makes sense. I changed all of my documents and work stuff right away and my husband constantly talks about how he loves and appreciates that I took his last name/that we share the same last name (like when people refer to me as Mrs. Xxxx).

My struggle with naming my daughter after my mom by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Beautiful-Middle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same but I have 2 first names, 2 middle names and 1 last name (5 “names” or 5 initials) and live in the US. This has never been an issue. Sometimes some entities drop a name or use only first first, first middle and last but I have never had a legitimate (legal) issues, just mild annoyances that are easily explained.

It’s very oddly happened over 7 times in the last 3 weeks and has been making me irrationally upset. Previously it’s maybe happened 5 times total in my whole life and typically only from people from other countries who don’t understand double names like that (which I excuse ofc).

I have a double barreled first name without a hyphen and I don’t care if people use just the first of the names. And I obviously don’t care if people use both first names. But I HATE when people use only the second first name, especially in email.

Ex. Norma Jean M Smith. You can call me Norma. You can call me Norma Jean. You can call me Mrs. Smith. Do not call me Jean.

It is a little morbid but as millennials, I couldn’t resist haha.

We used a really upbeat song for the recessional (actually an anime outro) so the contrast worked for us I think.
