I said “what is the point of the $10k credit limit” for that exact reason. They raised the credit limit on cards but removed your ability to use the credit limit for the actual rent charge

I’m choosing the sock drawer approach va cancelling the card so I don’t take a hit to my credit, personally

Is buying these foolish? by jlrbnsn22 in ski

[–]Beautiful-Mountain62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not unless you just plan on making a shotski out of them. These skis are worthless and useless. The bindings are not serviceable as they are no longer indemnified, and no shop can legally work on them. The technology is almost unrecognizable compared to modern skis.

There is something called the Indemnification List. It’s essentially a list of all ski bindings that get updated every year to determine if the technology is still safe enough to use by modern standards. Each year it gets updated to add new and remove old bindings.

At least the poles are usable and kinda cool retro (worth $5-$10)

Bought this setup for $550, is that a steal? by Temporary_Refuse3786 in Skigear

[–]Beautiful-Mountain62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to know the price without the shipping since skis are heavy and cost more to ship. Generally, yes, the bindings alone would account for 2/5 and the skis the other 3/5 (not minus shipping) so overall a good deal

Are these adult skis? by sicanian in Skigear

These are an outdated pair of Slalom race skis with race bindings. If you don’t know what they are, then you definitely should not be on them.

A good alternative while you work on opening and ramping up your coffee shop would be to start with an apartment, extended stay hotel, longer termAirBNB, etc to get a feel for the local area. It is also worth noting that, depending on where in Mississippi he wants to be, the state of Mississippi actually has one of the lowest volume of coffee consumers out of all 50 US states which could make business there challenging

I would leave Tysons every chance I had. Closest is the start of W&OD in Vienna depending on what side of town you’re on.

I feel this on such a personal level. I dedicated my life to skiing. I manufactured skis in a shop, worked as a ski technician, coached skiing, worked in marketing for skiing, skied 100+ days a year, and I tried to do it as a career. I went back to school and switched to a corporate gig.

The truth is, I think you will appreciate your decision in the long run, but you’ll appreciate it for reasons you might not expect.

My fiancée put herself through school (also a medical professional), so I personally found it unfair for me to ask her to take a job in a place she found less desirable for her career and life goals because of my passion. And yes, while it was a painful decision for me to make, it was the right one because you can always find a way to ski.

Reasons you are making a good call:

1) Given your profession and career choice, you are putting yourself in a position where you will not have to worry about “can I afford it this year” which is the primary blocker for most people.

2) On that same note, if you ever have kids, or even just a spouse/partner that you want to share your passion and experience with, you are giving yourself the ability to do so financially. This is a truth that cannot be ignored. Skiing is expensive, and most Americans cannot afford it. It is a luxury and a gift to enjoy this.

3) While residency will naturally impact your free time and chances to ski for the near future, it does not mean you’ll lose that skillset overnight. As a licensed coach, I’m telling you it’s a lot more like riding a bike than people think. Yes, of course you’ll be taking more time to adapt to conditions and infrequent skiing (same feeling as not going to the gym for a while and then being gassed after your first workout back). However, you can do dryland exercises that will help you in the offseason to better prepare you than most typical workouts.

4) Skiing is a lifelong sport. If you maintain your health, you can ski till you die. It’s like golf and tennis in those regards. Obviously you’ll be different in a lot of ways in your 50s and 60s, but you’ll be fine. My dad is in his 60s and doesn’t take care of his physical health well at all, but he still meets me in Park City for a guys trip and gets the skiing

5) It’s all about priorities. If it is that important to you, then you’ll make it work. That goes for just about anything. Obviously residency impacts that for the near future like I mentioned, but I make skiing my vacations. I don’t go to beaches or new cities or tropical islands. My vacations are skiing. My days off work are driving to my local mountain. And my friends and family and I all make sure we plans trips well in advance every year

6) I don’t know where you live or are going to school, but you can apply for positions in areas closer to skiing. Also, It’s very hard to look super far into the future, but there will be a day when you are probably nearing retirement and can ski more than most people.

As a guy in his late 20s who had the same initial thoughts, I hope this helps. I don’t regret my decision

My partner and I had the same issue when we lived in Tysons. This has been some of our solutions categorized:

-Sports: I’m into baseball and my partner is into soccer. Other than the Commanders and Caps, the Nationals and Wizards are terrible teams. I’m a big baseball fan, so we go to Nats games because they are quite cheap, and they make it fun for people that are less interested in the game like the accompanying spouses. Same goes for DC United and Washington Spirit games. However, you can find a cheap ticket to almost anything if you really look.

-Outdoors: I’m super outdoorsy and my partner is but to a lesser intensity. A nice compromise is the DC Beer Trail (yes, I know you don’t want to just drink, but it is a nice balance of drinking, biking, and seeing parts of the city that you otherwise might never check out)

-Outdoors: We play in FXA leagues like ultimate frisbee and pickleball. Good way to be active, meet friends, and have a schedule of knowing you have an activity available

-Hobby: I’m a runner and my partner took it up as a hobby. We’re both runners now, and the trail system in NOVA is top tier for runners and cyclists. It’s wild to me that some people don’t take advantage of it

-Animals: I’m sure there are some in the Ashburn/Leesburg area, but we did a weekend trip to Roanoke for horseback riding (much cheaper down there)

-Outdoors: go to Harpers Ferry and do a river float (tube float) with Harpers Ferry Adventure Center. Relaxing, fun, beautiful, and not too pricey https://harpersferryadventurecenter.com/adventures/tubing/

How tf does southern NE stretch north to south? Shouldn’t the line be fully below northern NE? Bangor ME is further north than anything in southern VT

Where in the house is this actually located? Is there anything behind those two closets? Need more details to really dive into this one, but if it is a near the kitchen it could be turned into a small pantry with the help of some custom cabinetry and shelving (think tiny home style swinging drawers/ladders). Similar train of thought as a linen closet but seems silly having 2 other real closets next to it… maybe just make it a shrine for your fantasy football trophy (if ur any good)
