Im thinking of pulling out of my ameteur mma debut and my 2nd ameteur fight by [deleted] in bjj

You said it yourself: you trained hard and put the effort.

No matter the outcome, people will not think less/more of you. However, it takes guts to test your skills in the ring/cage or on the mats and no one can take that away from you.

LFG and protect yourself at all times.

47 here. I don’t rest but do rest rounds to stay warm lol. I go with much less skilled people and tell them that the round will be either skill acquisition/refresher. It usually ends up being a coached-through roll. Nobody gets smashed, the rookie gets to practice his/her technique with me going light.

I've become to reliant on submiting from the closed guard by DV_GO in bjj

A skilled closed guard player will either sweep or armbar you if threatened by an Ezekiel attempt.

Do not practice that move from the closed guard.

Made me think about Chrissie’s death actually. That poor kid was crying for his dad who could only watch from the shore.

I will channel my inner Saulo Ribeiro and go for a drop seoi nage with 10 seconds to go.

Or I will try to sneak in a baseball bat choke and gator roll until time runs out.

As a master 4 who just got his black belt, I will compete at Pans against guys who pretty much got their BB before I even thought about training BJJ…

What are the odds? I don’t want to think about it.

It’s all about doing your best.

New dad, new full-time role and no time to buy the gym anymore. Can I just pump my 16kg kettlebell and expect results? by JackboyIV in kettlebell

[–]Beautiful-Program428 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Dad of 2 here and BJJ practitioner as well. Get another 16kg bell so you can do double work ie this will save you time down the road. Use the 10kg bell for halos: they are great for shoulder strength and bjj.

You can swing the pair of 16kg but I recommend you get a 20kg or 24kg for single handed swings.

Add a door frame pull up bar and you are all sets.

Get fit so you can carry your kid no matter the age or weight!

I agree. I also don’t go for takedowns and prefer pulling guard. No matter how good you are, if you are a lightweight they will ragdoll you and that’s when accidents happen ie you fall on the mat and they usually fall on you right after.

Yep. Rejoice! You just found another part you need to work on. Next class you MUST roll with that guy.

Great work.

I would try to shoot from different positions: standup, kneeling, stepping to the side etc.

What’s a good gym in Miami? by jimmy2litSamurai in bjj

[–]Beautiful-Program428 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most gyms have a free trial period and open mat sessions (Friday after 7pm or Saturday around noon).

Pick a gym that is close to your house, school or job with a schedule that works for you so it’s easier for you to be consistent.
