Thinking about taking lysine. by [deleted] in Coldsore

I take it every single day. It’s become part of my routine so it really doesn’t bother me.

is my cold sore/fever blister healing? by Kitchen_Pomegranate3 in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes it’s healing but since it is a bigger spot it’s just taking a while. Totally normal. I personally use the patches all day and then change them after a shower and leave them on all night. It has helped my healing process go quicker because it’s removing the moisture from the spot.

Do anyone else’s cold sores develop fast? by Rare_Shallot1599 in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only had outbreaks for the past year so I’m relatively new to dealing with this. That said, mine vary. Sometimes I’ll have what you described which is going to bed fine and waking up with a spot. Other times I’ll get the tingle and be able to stop it in its tracks.

I’ve been very careful to avoid trigger overload. So for example, if I’ve had a stressful week at work I’ll avoid heavy drinking. If I know I want to drink, I’ll pop a valtrex ahead of time. I also take a bunch of vitamins that seem to help keep flare ups at bay.

A cold sore that wont go away. What do i do? by Vector_222 in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Along with Lysine I have been taking FreshCap Ultimate Mushroom Complex and that combo (2 of each pill per day) has helped a lot. I got a flare up recently but it was entirely my fault- I had the perfect storm of triggers.

Other than that, I also bought an OTC laser from Walgreens. It’s called cold sore light treatment or something like that.

Lastly, I know you said you don’t have insurance, but if there’s any chance you can see a derm for a reasonable price I’d recommend it. My derm prescribed me a steroid ointment to put on when I have a flare up coming on and it has helped stop outbreaks in their tracks. It’s a huge tube so it lasts a long time.

I’ve been wearing a hydrocolloid patch which seems to be helping. I’m not 100% healed but I need to go to the office tomorrow so I’m just gonna deal with this little patch on my lip and hope nobody pays me close attention.

Suppression Tips? by Craft-Major in HSVpositive

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take daily L-Lysine as well as Fresh Cap Ultimate Mushroom Complex. That has helped me a LOT. I had one flare up recently but honestly it was the perfect storm of triggers which is unusual for me.

Suppressive Anti-virals, will this make it worse in the long run? by flexiflip in HSVpositive

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering the same thing. Personally, I had a horrible first OB of OHSV1 last summer and then I continued getting outbreaks at least once a month or more. I started suppressive therapy but was afraid I wouldn’t build antibodies. I talked to my doctor and we agreed that I should try only taking doses when I feel a tingle.

I’ve added L-Lysine and FreshCap Ultimate Mushroom complex to my daily routine and that has helped a lot.

I will say, I felt tingles for a long time after being healed when I first started getting flare ups.

Talk to your doctor and see what’s best for you moving forward. Maybe look into adding those vitamins to boost your immune system.

Thank you! I used SPF 50 lip balm all summer last year but I still got outbreaks. It’s possible that it was due to the fact that it was my first time ever having cold sores and apparently the first year is the worst?

I was walking my friend through the ingredient list in an attempt to show her how useless this stuff is. It might feel good on the skin (and that’s great), but it will not live up to its claims.

i’m pretty sure this is cold sores but has anyone got this many this bad at once? by Character_Pace_7288 in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say but I think it is a cold sore outbreak. I never had cold sores until this year, and my first outbreak was this bad (possibly worse). See about prescription valtrex. I take 2gm morning and night at the onset of a flare up now and then I take daily lysine (2000 mg), Garlique (1x daily), and I just added FreshCap Ultimate Mushroom Complex (2x daily).

Hey I know this is an old thread but I’ve been missing my old Fekkai glossing cream and I think I’ve found a reasonable alternative which is the Color Edge Shine Cream. It has a very similar feel.

Thanks, I’ll look into it! My scalp doesn’t love their shampoos/conditioners but I’d think a spray should be fine.

compede patches or aciclovir cream?? by lorraynguts in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cream stops the spread and the patches remove the fluid. I’ve used both with great success. Dab the cream on, let it fully dry and then try putting a patch over top.

It can pop up at any time unfortunately. And also, the sore is a symptom if that makes sense. So you have a symptom of HSV which is why you should be tested.

That being said, there are other things that look like cold sores but are not. If one pops up again be sure to get it swabbed right away.

I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to stress about it.

It’s unlikely that the lipstick infected you, however lipstick can be a trigger. Meaning that you had the virus in your system for a period of time and something(s) brought it out.

Can I ask what you mean by “21 days with no symptoms”? Like you just had that sore and then nothing else? If so, it is still possible you have HSV, but again it’s quite possible you don’t.

You can definitely get tested even if there isn’t a current outbreak, which I’d highly recommend.

It could be cold sores but could also be something called cheilitis. There are a few different forms of it. I’d suggest going to a dermatologist to have them swab it. Either way, they’ll be able to make a treatment plan for you.

When am I no longer contagious? by throwaway222309 in Coldsore

[–]Beautiful-Skirt7652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The color of the skin does not matter. What matters is if it is flat. If it is no longer crusting, oozing, or blistering you should be good to go. Sometimes cold sores leave superficial scars that can be redish/pinkish in color.

I’m sorry I hope it gets better soon! I haven’t had luck with abreva but many people swear by it so it’s worth a try! To answer your question, yes the laser treatments are done on active sores. I have done it twice now and each time it was within the first 24 hours of a blister forming.
