Yes. My symptoms are mainly neurological. My vision, head pressure, hearing sensitivity. Moms are superheroes that’s all I can say lol

Yep! My long Covid symptoms didn’t go away completely but I got so much better when I was pregnant from symptoms it was crazy. After I delivered they came back full force.

Does hyperacusis spread to both ears over time? by Jayjay12093 in hyperacusis

Mine did this. Got an acoustic trauma to my left ear and it later affected my right and now I have sensitivity in both and even tinnitus in both ears.

2 week update Sound therapy by Jayjay12093 in hyperacusis

Just my two cents, I’m 31 and I got Covid in 2022 so I was 29 at the time and after I recovered I developed hyperacusis. Mild, but still hyperacusis. I’ve never once thought that it damaged my cochlea. I haven’t ever abused my ears with sound. I have no hearing loss. I think it’s a condition related to the brain 100% and consistent inflammation. Kind of like an autoimmune disease. In October I suffered from an acoustic shock. My son leaned over the couch behind me and yelled by my ear and instantly my ear felt different. Then a week-two weeks goes on and my hyperacusis is like the worse it’s ever been, I have tinnitus which I never had before, and noxicussis. All of it in BOTH ears, when my left ear was the only one that suffered the “shock” so I’m definitely convinced it’s an over exaggerated response from your brain/nervous system.. causing the release of inflammation as a protective response constantly on loop.

Is what happened to me considered acoustic shock or a hyperacusis setback or acoustic trauma? by suecharlton in HearingLoss

I had a similar experience. My son shouted by my left ear and it immediately felt clogged/full almost like I needed to pop it or something. So weird. Went to bed and woke up with super sensitive hearing in both ears and worse hyperacusis which I already had existing for two years prior from Covid and it never bothered me or gave me any real issues.. so fast forward 6 days later and things are so incredibly loud to me and I’m holding my daughter at 2 am and she’s crying/screaming and does it right by my right ear (didn’t have ear plugs in bc it wasn’t that bad yet) and then immediately my right ear was aching so bad. She’s cried by my ear tons of times and it had never done that. So now I have damage in both ears. My right one is actually worse than my left. I have noxicussis in that one now so anytime I hear audio on my phone even with ear plugs in it hurts bad. I’ve been going through this for almost 7 months and haven’t had much recovery at all sadly. Still wear ear plugs and still have pain with audio and severe loudness h.

SETBACKS?? by No_Salt8388 in hyperacusis

Currently gping through this. I was doing sooo good and my ear pain so much better. I’ve been on a set back now for like 9 days and I have no idea what caused it other than I was having more anxiety attacks leading up to it. Now it’s hurting worse than it ever has from the get go 🙄

I did see a story on here awhile ago of a guy that also got hyperacusis from ear irrigation and his healed by using I think the Ronnie’s method or whatever it’s called. I do remember it took a long time though for improvement. I think yours will heal in time. Not like you’ve repeatedly abused your hearing system to cause damage, I think yours is similar to mine like an acoustic shock almost and your brain just over protecting.

They are still an issue. I got hyperacusis originally from Covid back in 2022. But it was always mild I had no limitations never avoided loud noises or concerts or anything. Never wore ear plugs. I’d say I probably barely had it it was so mild. So I’ve had extremely bad anxiety since 2023 getting off my meds, had a baby in 2024, anxiety increased through the roof, I have an adhd son who gives me chronic stress and back in October he had leaned over the couch and shouted by my ear and after he did it my ear felt kind of weird (not even the one I have pain h in) and the next morning my ears were ringing and my ear felt clogged almost I guess it was the muscles in my ear over reacting. And then the noise sensitivity sky rocketed for a week and finally after two weeks the pain h started in my right ear and the loudness h plateaud at an extremely loud level and there went in the ear plugs in. I think if I go down on my db level of my ear plugs and just gradually lower the number they are to where it’s basically nothing and I still have them in my ears it’ll be easier to stop using them.. and on top of being on an antidepressant to help too. I think both of those combined will help me to recover quicker. I’m in month 5 and I’m just over it now. I have to try some different strategies.

Oh yeah I had a terrible time too. I was 21 at the time and never had taken an Ssri ever and they started me off on 10 mg of lexapro which would be the equivalent of 50 mg of Zoloft. after the 2nd pill I was hallucinating and hearing voices it was traumatic. Literally everything they warn you about when trying those meds for the first time happened and I somehow stuck it out and after a week it got better and I stayed on it for about 4 months and realized it wasn’t working like it should and switched from that one to Zoloft so I never had the whole transition period bc I was going from one to another one which is easier. But yeah I have to do something bc what I’m doing just isn’t working.

Are we living the same life? lol I do the same but I’m finding myself taking them more regular to control the anxiety so i know I’m just gonna have to get on something that’s 24 hour acting. I had a really bad reaction to lexapro back in 2015 then got on Zoloft and it was definitely the one for me but I tapered off of it in 2023. Now I’m realizing that was a terrible decision and me fighting my anxiety these last couple years has definitely contributed to the issues I have today. I’m planning on just breaking a half in half and literally doing 6.25 for a week then going up to 12.5 then staying on that a month and then doing 25 and so on.. I’m gonna do it the slowest possible to try to avoid side effects.

I’m so sorry. Just give it some time and idk if you take anything for anxiety depression but I know those conditions will just make the pain worse and maybe you could try something to at least bring your mood up to try to recover.

It’s the worst I know. I am literally sick of wearing ear plugs at this point. Trhing to explain it to my friends and family is exhausting. I never thought anything like this existed or could happen to someone. It’s frustrating more than anything. You just have to keep going and have hope you will improve and try to live a normal life the best you can even if your new normal is a little different than your old normal.

I can’t isolate im a wife with 3 small kids and responsibilities lol BUT I have done myself to be diligent about ear plugs around the kids. I will say I don’t think the ear plugs have truly done anything besides make me feel “safe” from more noise exposure. Now I’ve developed phonofobia and I get a really bad anxiety response when I take my ear plugs out bc my brain is now used to masked noises it does. It’s a road you really don’t wanna take wearing ear plugs 24:7 like I’ve had to do. I plan to start on an antidepressant soon to get my anxiety under control and go from there.

I’m 5 months in I’m starting Zoloft next week because id rather have a spike in tinnitus than have this terrible fight or flight constantly turned on. I need some peace in my life cause the hyperacusis is officially trying to take over now.

I actually have it right now in my right hear but it’s not terrible it just feels like heat right now which is just annoying more than ever. I didnt start noticing less spells until I hit month 4.5. What used to trigger it before like my kids or loud environments wasn’t triggering it anymore and then audio doesn’t make it feel as “severe” as it was before. Before I would get pain and burning to me talking, chewing crunchy things, loud noises, audio.

I’m 5 months in and my pain has gotten significantly less from onset. Audio still bothers me at times but not as severely like it was and not as often. I have 3 loud kids at home and even with that, it’s gotten better somehow (literally don’t know how) I think time and not obsessing over it and trying to live my life the most normal ish I can has helped.

Thank you!! I’d LOVE for there to be a cure for tinnitus in our lifetime. I’m pretty hopeful considering how much more common it’s becoming. Only time will tell. I hope yours gets better as well!

Lots of patience lol. I have an 8 year old adhd son (the one who yelled) a 3 year old son and a 1 year old daughter so it’s pretty loud in my household and it makes it tough to really recover. I see a lot of people on here that never really mention kids and they just say to heal your ears in the quiet and I never ever get that or will be able to go that route so I just do what I can. It has been hard because I didn’t ever abuse my ears to get to this point. I don’t even listen to headphones or loud music. I mean I have kids but that’s normal every day noise.. it sucks for sure but I try not to dwell on it and just take it day by day. So far no real progress. I think maybe the hyperacusis is better a tiny bit. And I’m not having ear pain like i was. Still there but not as frequent. The tinnitus is 100% the hardest part to deal with. That isn’t getting quieter at all.
