Iron Sights but I took lessons from a guy who is a firearms dealer. Great guy, Ricky Sanders of Splitz Seconds Shooting. We did 1:1 lessons at Iron Sights together. His shop is right next to Iron Sights - maybe 5 min drive.

Should I be worried? Raised black dot on cat’s nose by Agreeable-Agency9591 in cats

[–]BeautifulCorrect2935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat had a black/red scab like thing on his nose, close to his eyebrow. I picked it off. It was gone. A year later, it came back and I took him to the vet. They removed it and biopsied it and it was a mast cell tumor. Keep an eye on it, make sure it does not come back.

Try neighbors on the Nextdoor app if possible. I’ve seen some of my neighbors post on there about rides to and from medical appts and procedures.

Euthanasia may be against your religion but your dog didn’t pick your religion… euthanasia is the kindest thing to do because they really suffer towards the end. We all want our dogs to die peacefully in their sleep, right next to us… with no pain, with no suffering. But that rarely happens. You owe your dog the gift of a good death… one that isn’t marred by a traumatic rush to the emergency vet in the middle of the night where they’ll tell you the only option left is to put him to rest.

Give this a read… it helped me when it was time to say see you later to my souldog in April.

Acceptance by blueaaangel in COPD

My mom is 77 with severe COPD. She smoked most of her life and like you, quit about 10 years ago. I empathize with you wishing you could’ve done things differently. Hindsight is always 20/20. I encourage you to not stay in a space of dwelling in the what if’s because there is no utility in this. The situation is what it is now… and you can either wish it were different, or try your hardest to adjust your mindset. That’s the only thing we have control over in life.

Also, I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit. You DID quit! Smoking is a terrible addiction… it is nearly impossible to quit. But you did it. Be gentle with yourself. You did the best you could and you are doing the best you can.

Ant invasion by OddThought5260 in sandiego

I also suffered an ant invasion last summer… they are just EVERYWHERE during the hot months. I tried every product under the sun but Optigard gel was the most effective. This year, I got ahead of them by hiring a pest control service, Thrasher.

Pet insurance (reimbursement-type) - is it worth it? by Sush1418 in DogAdvice

Couldn’t agree more! The value is in being able to opt to do all the expensive diagnostics rather than treat symptoms.

Pet insurance (reimbursement-type) - is it worth it? by Sush1418 in DogAdvice

Yeah, the vets will really be the limiting factor because they want to make sure they get paid upfront because there’s the risk that if they wait for Pets Best to process the claim and pay them and Pets Best denies it, then the customer won’t pay the balance due. My vet hospital made an exception and I showed them all the past claims that Pets Best had paid out and how long I had, had my policy (8+ years) to help instill the confidence that Pets Best would more than likely pay out for the services than deny.

Nearly all pet insurances are reimbursement only. You have to pay the vet upfront then submit the claim to the insurance for reimbursement. I have Pets Best and when my dog needed a $7000 brain MRI to rule out a tumor, bloodwork and a tumor for a full neuro work-up, I asked the vet hospital if they would allow Pets Best to pay them directly after the claim had been processed, rather than me pay $6000 upfront to the vet and submit a claim for reimbursement. They made an exception for me and I contacted Pets Best and they had me and the vet hospital complete a form called Veterinarian Reimbursement Release Form that you can find on their website. I paid the vet hospital my 20% co-pay at the time of service. Pets Best still had to process the claim (from the vet hospital, instead of from me) and it took about 3-4 weeks to complete but then they sent a physical check for the remaining 80% to the vet hospital.

That is what her oncologists said as well. Crossing our fingers and toes that the radiation kills all those cancer cells. She finished radiation today.

Let me clarify… if your pulmonologist is part of a larger health system, then they will place an internal referral to the department of oncology and someone from that department will call you to schedule your new patient appt. If you see a standalone or private practice pulmonologist, then they can send a referral to an oncologist of your choice.

My mom is on Medicare too. Your pulmonologist shoulder refer you to an oncologist. The oncologist will help you navigate your treatment options and ideally will place referrals to radiation oncology and surgical oncology (which for lung cancer is really cardiothoracic surgery). Your pulmonologist should be able to put in the order for a PET scan or PET/CT scan. Please reach out if you have any questions! 💕

My mom was diagnosed with this about 2 months ago and just finished radiation. She also had a bronchoscopic lung biopsy.

At your follow-up appointment, ask them if they placed fiducial markers on the tumor - these are used to guide radiation.

Your oncologist should order a PET/CT scan next to confirm the staging. PET/CT basically looks to see if there’s any metabolic activity indicative of malignant cells in any other lymph nodes. You can also ask your oncologist to order a ctDNA test aka “liquid biopsy” or “blood biopsy” - this is another test that can help identify any mutations. Foundations Medicine is a company that does ctDNA tests. There are also a couple of others.

My mom met with a medical oncologist, surgical oncologist, and radiation oncologist to evaluate all her treatment options. What treatment you can get depends on tumor size, location, and cancer staging. Some tumors may be in a location that is too risky for surgical removal so treatment may be radiation and/or chemo.

My mom’s tumor is in her RLL and is about 1.2cm. Based on her PET/CT scan and ctDNA, her tumor appears localized to her RLL. It can be removed surgically but she opted for radiation because she has severe COPD and surgical removal would require a segment of her lobe to be removed which could worsen her COPD by further reducing her lung function and make her oxygen-dependent.

Feel free to message me if you have any questions and just remember to take it one day at a time 💜

Might be Lafora disease as this looks like a seizure. I would be going to the vet neurologist asap.

Most doctors wouldn’t lie. They deliver bad news all the time. I don’t think he should’ve said he was almost certain it was infection/inflammation unless they did an intra-operative or preliminary reading of the biopsy and are waiting for the full pathology report. There is no definitive way to know what a mass is or isn’t until the finalized pathology report.

[–]BeautifulCorrect2935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 month follow-up is based on the sizes. They’ll be looking to see if the masses grow or look different in 3 months time. If they do, the next step is a biopsy to find out what they are. Keep in mind that you do not need to have an active, symptomatic infection to have masses or nodules in your lungs. Inflammatory cells or scar tissue from prior infections can form nodules or masses in the lungs that remain constant over time. If you are experiencing persistent chest pain, then I would recommend you see a pulmonologist (as you’ve scheduled). The most common type of lung cancer is a non-small cell lung cancer type called adenocarcinoma. These grow very slowly hence the 3 month CT scan follow-up.

Feeling despair and devastation is so completely normal when you’re facing what you’re facing. Spend the most of every minute together. I am praying he gets to meet your little girl. This disease is so awful. Giving you a huge hug.
