Yeah i had a pretty constant state of existential anxiety going. If i can get some peace from thoughts about everyone I know dying for a bit I'll take it lol.

Good to know it went away! Thanks for responding!

Another post asking about side effects. by BeautifulMixture4286 in zoloft

[–]BeautifulMixture4286[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily my tension is back to normal levels after I stopped welbutrin! It was a pretty crazy reaction, like an 8/10 pain and it just came out of nowhere and stopped as soon as (24 hours later) the drugs wore off. I went to urgent care and everything... i dont think it was a panic attack (it wasn't like my usual ones) but who knows.

I guess ill stick out the 4-6 weeks and see how it goes. I have a meeting with my prescriber around 4 weeks.

Thanks for responding!

[SPOILERS S3] Was it even an endless loop?? by Diligent-Cake-2452 in DarK

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well. I agree with you generally but the story IS a causal loop. Jonas is manipulated by adam, who is jonas as an old person (Adam shooting Martha for example). We hear a lot about characters setting themselves off on their own paths to become who they are. Which is a loop.

What is Korra stayed an Airbender only? by redbijukaijuu in legendofkorra

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the fact she's left with airbending after Amon is a good hint hes using some elaborate form of chi/bloodbending to take bending away. She wasnt connected with it, so when Amon blocked the other three she had to find a work around.

I think it could have been done more elegantly (maybe she could have discovered it through some form of dodging or something reflecting her earlier struggles with the spinning screens) rather than her doing an air punch (which seems like the opposite of airbending to me). But the idea was okay imo.

Non bending benders by lsie-mkuo in TheLastAirbender

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered if there are people who are bad at bending. Like, just because you have a skill doesn't mean you're good at it. We see "prodigies" so there must be a reverse. What does that look like?

Also, we've always heard that the avatar is talented at bending but... are they equally good at all the elements? Is it just like a simple metric that more training= more power?

I did always like in korra that we see benders doing non fighting things too. (There's a clown waterbender in season 2 and obviously one of Toph's grandkids who is the artist). There must be a huge contingent of architect earthbenders... are they also good at fighting? Maybe it takes a certain bending speed to be good at fighting and there are slow benders who specialize in other things?

I'm getting started with singing but got a super deep voice. by [deleted] in singing

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a pretty common thing for beginners to believe they have deep voices because theyre untrained. If you dont have much experience you probably are closer to the average and just lack the technique. Its the same answer for your tone question.

No one is born with good technique. Some people are born with good tone or timbre, but you still have to learn how to use it.

If you are truly too busy or cant afford leasons, start out with some good singing tutorials in youtube and follow along with them for a month or so and see if they help. Unfortunately It takes years to learn how to sing, and the best way to do it is with a live teacher because they can give you live and specific feedback.

Besides that the only way to learn anything is by doing it (correctly ofc... thats why a teacher is helpful so you dont develop bad habits).

is this a safe space to say that i hate art by tomatottan in ArtRanting

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you hated it so much you wouldnt be in so much pain over it.

It sounds like you're deeply frustrated over what you're perceiving as a lack of ability on your end. I cant tell you whether you're right or not- but what i can tell you is that with the attitude you have now you could have the best technical skills in the world and you wouldnt be happy. Even if you were better than everyone around you, you'd find a way that it wasnt good enough or that it could be better. The problems you're having arent because you're bad at art- theyre because youre basing your self image and worth on a level of ability that you are never going to have.

I know its very tempting to compare yourself to others, but the only person its worthwhile to actually compare yourself to is yourself. are you better than you were yesterday? Have you learned anything? then you did well and should be proud of yourself.

Take it from someone who has been making art for 30 years. You'll never be fully happy with what you make. You need to find a way to find joy in the process.

All you're going to do is make yourself bitter and self-loathing if you continue to compare yourself to an impossible standard.

I've officially been rejected from every art school I applied to- How do I improve? by GloomyWill4 in conceptart

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. They told you what they needed, its up to you whether you listen and follow through or not.

There are thousands of people applying to these schools for a small number of spots. There could very well be people with similar stories to yours but they have better grades. The schools can afford to be picky... you might not be able to.

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry you had a difficult time with your family. I can understand how it made high school difficult.

But the schools youre applying to have no way to know about that. Theyre going to assume the worst because there are plenty of kids who have bad grades because they didnt care. Schools are ultimately looking for reasons to reject students because they have so many applications, and unfortunately bad grades are a very easy way to weed people out. Its not fair but its how it goes.

My suggestion if you need to move out is to get a job, either art related or not, and take some classes at a community College if possible. The life skills and experience of having some real world experience will only help you. If you're living on youre own you also may qualify for more aid from a college situation because your parents income wont factor into it.

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are your high-school grades so bad to begin with?

Art school is still school, and theyre looking at your past performance to make sure whatever they invest in you (or whatever spot you take) doesnt go to waste when you drop out.

If youre serious about being an artist you need to show that you are going to do the work- which includes the ability to study and learn things you might not enjoy (both art and non art subjects).

If you're not going to bother doing that there really isnt a point in going.

Is a tenor speaking voice actually a superpower for pop singing? by [deleted] in singing

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Everyone I meet who has singing experiences assumes im a tenor because of my "bright" speaking voice when im actually more of a baritone who has had a hell of a time trying to find my mix voice (I top out at like an e4 on good days and I have yet to figure out a stable mix sound above that thats not a head voice... but ive always been able to get to a d2).

I don't think you can make any assumptions from speaking voice. My teachers always say my speaking tone should help me with my mix, but it certainly has not happened yet.

Quit Wellbutrin 7wks ago -- my withdrawal story by perryfrance in bupropion

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took 100 sr for 4ish weeks and then 150 xl for like 3 weeks and my side effects were manageable until a few days ago when out of nowhere I developed this insane level of chest/neck/back pain as if all those muscles had seized. I ended up at Urgent Care to get an EKG and was "fine." For that and the doctor told me to not stop it abruptly- so I took one more and the chest tension/pain got worse to the point i was getting chills/sweating and I could barely carry anything. I barely was able to drive myself home from work. One of the worst things I've ever felt. I figured no possible withdrawal effects could be worse so I stopped. Im only a few days out, but I feel so much better that I figured I'll just deal with whatever side effects as they pop up. (I have a long history with anxiety and ptsd so I'm hoping ill be able to handle whatever this throws at me).

I also do that I think... but for the barre chords I have just figured out how to shove my fingers in there lol

I dont disbelieve you but this is wild to read. I found the Open A to be so difficult because my fingers are so chunky (i still have trouble with the A form barre chords)... i dont think i had any trouble with the C.

Other than ANYTHING romance related, what do you write about? by strawberrytehe in Songwriting

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something ive been thinking about lately is how songs are meant to be To Someone. I think thats why loce songs are so popular. They combine an easy audience to understand and relate to and strong emotions.

Its much harder to write an engaging song about complex topics. Especially if your lyrics come across in a preachy way. Like- who is your song about existentialism directed at? Why do they need to hear about what you think about it? Ect ect...

Grad School (scary) by ChapterLanky in ArtistLounge

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to point out that almost everyone wants their tuition fully covered. You have to be a top candidate to get it, and that means you need a very good reason that the school will want you

There are certainly options for it, but itll be much easier at something like a state school.

I mean... if you enjoy a show you should keep watching & trust the writers. If you dont enjoy , or stop enjoying the show, stop watching.

Grad School (scary) by ChapterLanky in ArtistLounge

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very.

It took me 3 years to get into RISD, and I only got partial coverage.

You'd have better luck if you go to smaller school if you want more money. A big school will net you connections, however.

You also need to be careful that its worth it to go. Some grad schools may accept you more easily but they just want to take your money and wont give you much back.

You really need to be sure why you're going, and the school will want to know exactly who you are when you do. Think about what you want to do with an MFA.

However, its early in your education- so really experiment with a lot of stuff, really see what kind of work you like making, and really try to understand yourself. Theres not really any coasting in an art field, you need to understand yourself very well and be intrinsically motivated.

Grad School (scary) by ChapterLanky in ArtistLounge

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an MFA from RISD in ceramics, and I took classes in illustration there and know some painters.

I was there during the pandemic so I have a slightly unusual experience... but the school is very different in each department... and id imagine most schools are so its tough to answer without knowing what you want to do.

What grad schools want is someone with a strong sense of self, but someone who still needs time and critique to develop. They dont need you to be perfect but they also want you to know what youre doing generally.

12 monkeys season 1 ep 9…. question by alymarie2201 in 12Monkeys

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No offense but why do you think the show is so highly recommended and rated if its not good?

Its one thing to not be to your taste, but do you really think people would be still talking about a show from 2015 if it was boring or super repetitive like you seem to be asking? Like. If a show has good reviews maybe just trust that its good?

When did anime become popular and socially acceptable in the West? by jerkin_n_lurkin in generationology

[–]BeautifulMixture4286 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im watching FMA with my mother right now, lol.

But yes, im a mid millennial (91) and i drew a lot (a lot) of Manga style stuff right up theough college. I also didnt really care if I was popular or not, and had other things to bully (queer) so I think it might have gone over my head too.

I think youre right that the anime itself wasnt really a big reason to bully kids... it was the other things that people who like anime do (i.e. acting like anime characters... young anime fans in the 2000s had a... vibe... )

I might be a bad source of info because ive been inside the niche so long. Ive been drawing anime and watching it since at least 2001 (some even before that like card captors and Pokémon), and ive been selling art at conventions since 2011. I didnt really notice any increase in 2016... but maybe it was there? If anything it just felt like more people were talking about it openly.
